The hotel seems to be very well run and the staff very pleasant. Ideal for a short visit to go sightseeing. 5 minutes walking from rossio and bairro alto. Everything was fine, the room very clean and everything worked well.

On a map the location looks excellent, however it is at the top of a long steep hill and you wouldn't want to walk up it in the dark by yourself. The rooms are incredibly noisy, both from street noise and you can hear everything that goes on in the rooms around you so if you want a good nights sleep don't stay here.

The room was facing the street and I was awakened at least 4 times during the night by cars.

Just a couple blocks from the heart of Lisbon (Baixa & Roissy). Friendly staff. Clean room & bathroom. Awesome view from the rooftop terrace. Quiet neighborhood street away from the noise. Fantastic little bistro just a block down the street - recommended by front desk. Very reasonable rates.

The location of this hotel was perfect as it was ony a 5 minute walk into the main square, yet was set in a more residencial area so you were away from all the tourist hustle and bustle. We arrived a couple of hours before check in on the day, but the staff were extremely helpful and let us check into the room there and then. They were also very helpful in recommending what to go and see and also which cafes they recommended. They als helped to book our return taxi to the airport, which was helpful as we had an early flight to catch.

It was a nice room (art deco style). The building itself was pretty nice (older building in the center of town). The rate was decent. The shower was nice. As with much of the trip across Spain and Portugal, there was effectively no heat (a small radiator that gave off heat to half foot radius). No central unit in the room. Could not get online. Password that was given did not work and signal was 'very weak'. Talked to desk and he came up and tried and could not get online. He said he would look into it and never came back. Had to use iPhone for browsing nearby activities. No phone in the room. No view with the room we had and did not like the location. We had stayed in Lisbon for a couple nights early on in the trip and wanted to try a new part of town, but this hotel seemed close to nothing. It was in the city centre as promised and not touristy which was good, just didn not see any restaurants near or bars (maybe didn't take the correct turn if there was one) and little was open. No tv in the room. Not that we were going to watch for a long time, but while I am searching on iPhone for Fado show because of the lack of internet, it would have been nice to my friend to get her mind off of the room's coldness.

The location, the decoration, the building and the way it has been renovated At the beginning we have been put in the room 101. There was a terrible smell in the bathroom, the room was small, the shower door was broken, there were wires on the wall, the window was not closing proprely. We asked to change and we had a good room instead.

We have stayed at Lavra Guesthouse for 4 nights - the location of the hotel is great - very pictursque terace with beautiful castle view, 10 minutes walk to the main Rossio square - for lazy guests - possibility to use Lavra elevator from Restauradores square. The interior simply but very nicely arranged, clean room, friendly staff. I truly recommend this place expecially for couples who do not want to overpay.

Situate in the center at walking distance to the main square. Big room, and clean. In an old building with all its charm. The old wooden floor, the big stair had its charm. Was not expecting any luxury, and was happily surprised with this choice. Should I come back to Lisbon, I will certainly book this place again.

Grand old building. Great views from rooftop terrace. Very helpful staff who speak many languages. Fairly central location at the top of the Lavra Funicular. Lots of inexpensive authentic retaurants on the same street. Too much street noise - no A.C. to block it out. Beds were quite small. Bathroom way too small. Could do without bidet so you could close bathroom door. Perched at the top of a hill which meant a lot of uphill walking when funicular wasn't running.

Sensitively renovated guesthouse in former old convent. Balcony with view over the city & tejo river. Very friendly & welcoming staff. Relaxed. Free wifi in public areas. Rooms very clean & aesthetic minimalist design, wooden floors. Just 10 minutes walk from city centre (use the unique & pictoresque tram connecting lavra & old town just around the corner!). Parking available at garage nearby.

It was very convenient for central Lisbon and close to several sights and a wide range of restaurants and cafes. Also reasonably close to the Metro, trams and buses and the bus service to the airport. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, though not included in price, was good value. Not enough shampoo provided for duration of our stay. Our bathroom would have benefited from blinds. At the top of a hill- might be a problem for some people.

It's not too far from a variety of things-- the center, Alfama, Chiado and Bairro Alto. Reception staff are easy-going and multilingual. I even got a call and a message left (and they went to the trouble and expense of calling my us phone number!) from staff before my holiday began advising me that the reception desk closes at midnight and that I would need to check in before then or call someone to let me in if arriving late. The hotel is definitely a work in progress and it seems that long-term renovations and upgrades are ongoing, although I'm not sure to what extent. I think they have all the right ideas, but there are nagging little details in the execution that make it fall short. The most notable of these is that the bathrooms in some rooms are almost unworkably cramped and, in our case, disappointingly run-down. In terms of surroundings, it's near the top of a hill (no walking trip through Lisbon can avoid steep uphill climbs at least somewhere), something to keep in mind if you have heavy bags. The street is noisy in the mornings-- lots of construction noise from nearby building repairs.

Lovely old buiding centrally located in a tipycal Lisbone street. Very closed to places of interest and main station and buses. Lovely roof terrace where to relax after a busy day sightseeing. Fantastic! We had a room overlooking the Calcada de Santana which was a bit noisy when the rubbish track passed each night. It was hot so we slept with window open although we could have used fan in the room. So with windows closed wouldn´t have been a problem at all.

We stayed at the beginning and the end of our trip - 2 week gap in between. The first room was excellent - bright, clean, the furnishings elegant and we felt safe. The staff are friendly and even spent time looking up train/bus schedules for us. The location offered us the opportunity to work off our huge meals by being at the top of a massive hill!!!!!!! (we didn't discover another route that was much easier until after) :) Our second room at the end of our trip was their bargain basement special on the main floor looking out onto a courtyard which should have been quaint. We didn't feel safe as the door was flimsy and was more window than door; the curtain that should hide this door doesn't cover the whole thing so at night we felt like people could peek in.
