Just to say the comments online about no free wi-fi in rooms is out of date - we did have wi-fi in our room......

The facilities suited us, with a 19-month old baby, perfectly. The pools, the play-area, the access, the service, the large room, the dining: everything was perfect.

- Hotel has tired look - could do with face lift. - Naked men in spa in front of female guests but this problem delay with efficiently by manager - No wi-fi in room - would expect this for a 5 star hotel - On 9th no smoking hotel but smell from smoking 10th floor and cigarette butts thrown onto our balcony

With my husband we met in this hotel New 2013!!! Staffs are well tried - did a good entertainment and a delicious dinner. And then from the terrace we watched the most beautiful fireworks in Funchal!!! We liked this hotel.Staff were very friendly, courteous and quietly attentive.Our room had amazing ocean views and were large, clean and comfortable.This is SUPER!!!- sleep under the whisper of the ocean! Breakfast was a great choice, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, ham, fish, good pastries, champagne always available! Hotel have large ocean- side pool area. Very nice spa - we recommend if you want a really good relax!

It would be great - if the room had free wi-fi internet...

Lovely hotel, excellent breakfast buffet, excellent spa. Beautiful infinity pools. Can't rate this highly enough and would definitely go back.

The staff. They were super helpful and we really appreciate all their help. We had the romantiv package so lots of bottles of free sparkling wine. Would definately go back there as views from the balcony were stunning and walking into funchal eas essy and enjoyable

No free internet in the rooms

Although a five star hotel, we liked the relaxed, informal atmosphere. Staff were very courteous, friendly and quietly attentive but we didn't feel pressurised to give tips for the service. The rooms had amazing ocean views and were large and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was tasty, varied and plentiful. We didn't have any other meals in the hotel as there are such a lot of excellent restaurants close by. The large ocean- side pool area, with infinity pools, was well attended by friendly staff who took towels and sunbed cushions to our chosen sunbeds. We had warm and sunny weather for the first week in December. It was a lovely way to celebrate a 60th birthday. Our package, which we felt was very well- priced, included sparkling wine, fruit and access to the spa which would normally be quite expensive. The hotel also kindly provided a birthday cake! We would definitely stay there again.

This isn't a criticism, but potential visitors may want to know that the hotel chain had just been taken over by Vidamar prior to our visit so it is probably going to be upgraded to an even higher standard in the future. Hopefully, things like the balcony areas on the bedrooms, which were slightly 'tired-looking', will be made more attractive and comfortable ... although it didn't stop us from sitting out and admiring the panoramic views!

The hotel's outerior and interior were very modern. Staffs kindly and reseonably modified our reservation due to failure to arrive on the day I booked because of the airplane strikes. Other facilities such as pools and sauna were very nice, too. I booked a romantic package, which was a perfect choice for my honeymoon.

everything! staff excellent helpful courteous and very friendly.In particular,Gilda Abreau and Nelson Ciprianni at reception went out of their way for us and other guest as I observed from time to time in the lobby.Although a larger hotel the feel was warm and welcoming. we had an excellent time,will return and highly recommend this hotel. Site, good, various breakfasts, big seafront rooms, beach and pool

Lack of the Internet on a beach (sometimes caught wi-fi from the next hotel), absence of conditioning in a hall, access to the ocean on concrete steps wasn't always possible (to go down on a vertical metal ladder from height of 3-4 meters wasn't so cozy), free of charge drinking water brought only in day of arrival.

We liked all the features of the facility: restaurants, lounges, view from the room, sea-side location, sauna, exercise room and swmimming pools. The staff was excellent and attended to everything. Free parking for our rented car. The breakfast really good. We would have no hesitation in reccomending the hotel to family and friends.

Internet in the room is a subject of extra payment, a litte bit expensive. Location of the hotel near noisy street.

I liked all the features of the facility; i.e. restaurants, lounges, spa, beauty salon, room service, view from the room, sea-side location, sauna, exercise room, exercise classes offered, tours offered, and swmimming pools. It was everything I wanted for a relaxing vacation. The staff was excellent and attended to everything. It was the best hotel I have ever visited and stayed at.

I liked everything.

The overall quality of the hotel. The rooms were very spacious, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was very comprehensive and the quality of the food high. The infinity pools looked amazing. Plenty of sunbeds to choose from.

The lack of a decent pool bar. The buffet meal on the first night was poor and we did not eat at the hotel again except for breakfast.
