A nice room with a nice view. Excellent service from the friendly staff!
The minibar was out of order (not chilled) - but we didn't need it anyway ;)
Location great, lounge/reception area nice. Breakfast ok - not a huge choice, but ok
Rooms very dated. Hairdryer didn't work, dripping tap, furniture and general fittings very old.
Excellent location Helpful staff Good breakfast Spacious and nice room (big balcony towards the Rossio square) Aerobus stop right outside the hotel
location (choose rooms with view on Rossio Square), stuff, breakfast....
old furniture, air condition in the lobby - they were on the maximum cold every day
Position and the view from our room
I really liked the location of the hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional.
Generally the rooms were tired, and old. The hotel has great potential its just that the rooms could have done with a facelift, a lick of paint, carpets needed cleaning, and bathroom could do with being modernised a bit. It didn't have the wow factor I was expecting, considering the money we paid. The bed linen on the day we arrived was iffy, but the next day when it was changed it was much better, crisp and white. I'm saying all of this in the hope that the hotel improves. :-)
Location for those who stay 2-3 nights is exellent!!!
Beds can be easily broken
Easy to go any place. あらゆる場所に行きやすい。
No Wi-Fi in the guest room.
Excellent location, friendly and polite staff, wonderful from on Praça Rossio!
the best in the city
Location is perfect. Airport bus stops in front of the hotel. No need for taxi. Good breakfast.
Romantic package includes non-usable balcony facing the square and a bottle of sparkling wine at arrival. Not worth the extra cost. Wifi works occasionally. We had to call for staff to show up at reception. Old hotel with dated bathroom.
Traditional comfort in central location with friendly and helpful staff.
Couldn't beat the location - the Metropole is located right on the main (Rossio) square of Lisbon, and just a short walk to the seafront. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful with small issues such as printing, ordering taxis, etc. It had a real air of an old-world hotel and plenty of character... a little shabby and down-at-heel but very clean, comfortable, and affording good basic facilities. Breakfast was adequate with some hot food, cold meat and cheese, yoghurt, fruit, bread, pastries, etc.
The information booklet in the room proudly informs you that the hotel was completely refurbished in 1993... and I suspect hasn't seen much redecoration since! Some aspects could really do with updating. The wifi only works on the first floor, which is where the reception and breakfast room are located. The bed was a little small - I'm average height but I think a taller person would not have been comfortable.
Wi-Fi online in the common room
Loved the location, views, comfort, very clean.Staff were friendly, professional and efficient.Good breakfast.
Stairs from entrance to lift bit hard to manage with luggage.
Excellent location, breakfast was good, rooms were spacious.
The hotel needs an updating. Furnishings are worn out!
Right in the middle of Rossio. Around the corner from the train station to Sintra. The retro look of the place is authentic and well preserved.
If your room is on the front, its going to be quite noisy. Despite what the website says, is not wheelchair friendly. To reach the lobby one has to climb a flight of stairs, then the elevator is quite small.
Location and atmosphere in hotel. Good breakfast, would be excellent if we had hot water for tea!
Perfect location Good value Helpful staff
A tired facility.... Little charm. No parking available.
The location of the hotel is excellent! It is on one of the busiest plazas in central Lisbon and is walking distance to the river, the metro, other neighborhoods, etc. The staff were also really top-notch and welcoming!
The Metropole is an older hotel and its age shows in the decor and furnishings, but don't let this stop you and accept it for what it is. If you want to complain about something, the lack of wifi in the rooms is probably worth a mention.
The location of the hotel was perfect as a base for exploring Lisbon. It is in a flat part of the city so, easy for buggies, but right next to bus, metro and tram stops to explore further. The breakfast was really good with a wide selection. We loved the hotel's 'faded grandeur' feel which matched the feel of Lisbon itself.
The location very convenient for the tourist buses and trains and the view from the front windows of the hotel.
The shabby (no chic) depressing dreary decor, the furniture was stained and broken the sheets on the beds were gray and wafer thin and the bathroom was covered in black algae. The breakfast room wasn't big enough and spilled over into the gloomy lounge. We didn't stay for breakfast but it was a cold buffet arrangement. When we complained there was no management there to deal with us. The poor receptionist rang the manager who was most unhelpful and had to ring the director who agreed to refund our costs except for the first night even though we couldn't possible stay there. So we spent the first day of our four night break very distressed and despondent moving hotels. This hotel is definitely not 3star and certainly doesn't live up to the website standard and expectation. I think the director should go and see the state of the hotel for themselves and I can only feel sorry for the staff who have to deal with client disappointment. My experience also reflects badly on booking.com's requirement for payment in advance having lost both time and money through misleading information.
Here's what I particularly liked about this hotel, where I stayed for 13 days: Its excellent location in the heart of Old Lisbon; the fact that the Metropole is a boutique hotel - basic, with no frills, but comfortable & clean; the excellent breakfast that included fresh fruit, yogourt, cheese, cold cuts.
