Pousada de Angra do Heroísmo, Ilha Terceira

Wonderful location. Set in a 15th century fortress the history of the island is delivered to your door like a daily newspaper. Incredible views. Convenient to Angra. Friendly and helpful staff. Pool was wonderful (except maybe for the tourists visiting the fort who had to view me in swimsuit!). Aspects of fort well preserved (tunnels to seafront cliffs) made up for the mixed reservations I had about staying in a modern hotel in an historic site. Hotel is beautifully modern - granite and pine, and chenille blankets and pillows. Every room has a balcony with a view of the property and sea.

Only thing I would change is the dining hours. Breakfast from 7.30am and dinner from 7.30pm leaves early birds scrambling. I like an early breakfast, but it slowed me down. Couldn't find a restaurant in Angra open for dinner before 7pm so I guess it's a local phenomenon.

The hotel is incorporated into a 14c fort overlooking the ocean. Very intriguing, with lots to discover. The village is right next to the fort, and has many little shops and cafes to explore. Just past the village are walking trails through the hillside forests and farmlands. There is also a golf course nearby, fun to play, very relaxed atmosphere.

Sossego, conforto, localização e a excelente paisagem da baía de Angra do Heroísmo. Excelente arquitectura e design inserido num forte com centenas de anos. Nada a apontar quanto à estadia a todos os níveis.

Apesar de ser de pequena dimensão (penso que 29 quartos) penso que deverão aperfeiçoar/melhorar o nível do buffet do pequeno-almoço.
