Not far from Tavira’s bustling town center, Hotel Porta Nova enjoys a quiet hillside location. Its modern rooms feature a private balcony. Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools.
Score from 917 reviews Good
Lovely room, good breakfast
Too cold in December to use the outdoor pool
Everything about this hotel was just right, the lovely staff, the comfortable rooms, the breakfast, the wi-fi in the rooms and the (free) on site car-park. Oh, and the location, right in the heart of Tavira but off any main road and so quiet.
Very friendly attentive staff Overall a good experience
Forget the breakfast Just not good enough for the money
understaffed slow bar and restaurant service
Beautiful Hotel quietly positioned on highest spot of Tavira. Easy walk to town center. Fabulous pool garden w. old wall. Varied good breakfast. Very friendly personnel. At spa: Sandra does the best sports back massage!
Food is dissappointing.
No tea / coffee facilities in room
You are treated royally. The building is really awesome, spotless and atmospheric/historic.
Beds are always a bit hard in Portugal(for us northerners) It was a bit difficult to raise the temperature in the room.
We stayed one night in November 2014. The ambience is calm and relaxing. Staff were excellent. The location is very good enabling those physically active to explore the town on both sides of the river.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room although we were told when we were checking out that we could have asked for them! Breakfast was not exciting but adequate. Make sure you tell waitress you want meal deal or they will charge full price for each item.
Great historical facility, friendly staff, nice room.
Great food, nice and cool, helpful staff
We thourghly enjoyed our stay here. The building is in a great location, far enough away from the town, so you are not effected by noise, but just a short walk to the Town, which has a great selection of Bars & Restaurants. Nice swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds and comfortable spacious rooms. We had a very good buffet breakfast each morning. We would deffinatley return here.
Reception staff - lovely, pool - tranquil and restful
Musak in some public areas. Not needed, the building itself exudes character! If there must be some, please let it be traditional Portuguese and in keeping with the history of the convent.
Wonderful conversion of an old convent. Very friendly and helpful staff; couldn't do enough for their guests. Free parking and very central location.
Staff, location, facilities, including swimming pool.
Breakfast was not brilliant. Coffee was especially unimpressive
Everything, The Hotel The Food The Pool The Restaurant
Nothing all was great
Lovely location, excellent and welcoming staff.
Muzak in the cloister - it's a bit bland and international for a building of such historical interest.
Building is beautiful (too bad for the decoration inside) Location (walking distance from downtown)
Decoration very poor (amateur ugly paintings everywhere) unexperienced staff, with limited english level; Swimming pool was dirty (and crowded); breakfast very limited. Average beds amd confort (TV was an antique!)
Beautiful cloisters, lovely pool. Friendly helpful service, food was very good and not excessively priced. Location very central, free parking.
Breakfast buffet Pool area Ruins Quiet Location WiFi (that works) much better than 2 yrs. ago
Beds were really sub-standard: two twins were hard, separated, we couldn't sleep together for 9 days! A real negative for a couple in love. The discount system for a Pousada member is awkward to use and forces the member to have the card at every meal or snack to take advantage of the benefit. Poor implementation. Discounts should be automatic.
Beautiful building in good location with excellent friendly staff on reception notably Alex . Pool is excellent with plenty of loungers and shade to enjoy .
Breakfast could be improved with better cereals .
Historic property converted into a beautiful hotel. Spacious, lovely room. Gorgeous pool area. We are generally hesitant to eat in hotel restaurants, but our dinner was fantastic. Some of the best food we had in Portugal. Spa prices are quite reasonable. Staff was gracious and helpful.
can walk out of hotel and are close to bars/restaurants for evening entertainment
rather 'stuffy'. very quiet and serious of itself and a hard sell was done at reception when we arrived for a 1 night stay. Our room was ok - good big bathroom but wouldn't have wanted another night in ti.
Front desk service was friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast with a very good selection ( loved the pumpkin jam). Swimming was a great treat to cool down after a hot day of touring. Free parking was appreciated!
Liked everything and would definitely return or rrecommend to others!
The Pousada has a calm, relaxing atmosphere which enables you to unwind the minute you arrive. The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. Breakfast in the Cloisters has to be the best way to start the day. The hotel is located not far from the restaurants, shops and bars and is in walking distance to the ferry which takes you out to the "Island".
