In a medieval gatehouse, in Viseu, Palàcio dos Melos offers spacious rooms with a jacuzzi. Just 300 ft from Grão Vasco Museum, it features a terrace with panoramic views.
Score from 237 reviews Very good
Hotel Grão Vasco is situated on extensive grounds, with an oval-shaped swimming pool and well-tended hedges. The restaurant has large windows and overlooks the green lawn.
Score from 189 reviews Good
Beautiful puosada in a former hospital. Superb rooms, very nice lounge areas, spa and swimming pool. Great breakfast buffet. The location and the very edge of the historical center is also worth mentioning - easy to reach by car and only a short walk to all the shopping, historical sights, restaurants and night life.
The Pousada is very big and had during our visit not so many guests. That makes for a little less atmosphere
Not having chance to use the spa!
Beautifully redone, inner-courtyard and rooms go great in hand. Stylishly decorated in a way that it is well balanced between a historical building and a hotel feeling.
Never had such a bad reception at a hotel before. Very impersonal. Interrupted twice in the room by staff saying that "the room was not being used in the morning".
From moment we entered Reception we knew that all was going to be A1. No cause for any complaint whatsoever in respect of Staff, room, Dining room, and food was brilliant , and not as expensive as we would have expected.really well tun Hotel.
everything was wonderful - the old building, our room, the pool, the spa, the breakfast,... We didn't miss anything and would definitely come back.
Historic building Spectacular lounge Nice size pool Great breakfast Great food at dinner time
Slow service in dining room Too many tourists for the kitchen staff
The rooms were very spacious and well appointed. The outdoor pool was lovely. The selection at breakfast was great, including champagne!
Beautifully renovated historical building with the charm of history and comfort of today
the spa area is very small and children were playing in the jacuzzi. While it was written that they were not allowed to be there, there was no staff from the hotel to control it. Our very short stay at the spa was more stressful than relaxing
The room and the beautiful building.
It is NOT a good place for a couple on a romantic holiday! The hotel is only good for families with children - most like a fashionably "charter hotel" :-(
Beautifully restored building. Excellent swimming pools. Huge, comfortable rooms. Exceptional value for money. Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Bar staff difficult to locate and surly when they did appear.
Comfortable hotel, helpful staff, good breakfast, good price for value
The lovely city, great bads!
For families, the suite is a great option -- very spacious, nice design, and just enough separation between the bedroom and the living room (with a comfy sofa bed for kids). The restaurant was a lot better than we expected, too.
We ate dinner at the restaurant. Unfortunately I am allergic against carrots as I told the waiter and asked to please serve the mixed salad without them because otherwise I would not be abel to breath anymore. The meat and the salad were served with loads of small pieces of carrots all over the plate. There was no excuse for the mistake, I got a new plate with the same meat still carrots inbetween and a "mixed" salad - this time without anything else than leave salad. Mistakes can happen but I expect an excuse and afterwards a plate without carrots. We payed the whole price for the dinner. That was absolute inacceptable!!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous little city
Absolutely nothing not to like
Excellent location near the old city. Beautiful renovated building, comfortable bed. A good breakfast with a nice choice of buffet.
It was a good room with satellite TV and good WiFi. Breakfast was very good. Great parking if you have a car.
The place was sterile. It needed some painting on the walls, a bit of colour and maybe a few rugs on the floor. Not very welcoming, but still comfortable. The bath had an old discolored rubber non slip mat and a nylon shower curtain, not what one would expect in a Pousada.
We loved the historic nature of the building. Our bedroom was large and comfortable, bed linen and bathroom facilities were excellent. We booked dinner in the restaurant the night we arrived and food and service could not be faulted. Breakfast was also good. This was only an overnight stay on our way to Oporto but we consider ourselves very lucky to have found this hotel.
No complaints at all.
Very well appointed room with very large king size bed and fabulous linens. The room space and balcony made it extremely comfortable.
We had a suite which was great and huge. The spa area was superb. The building is impressive-lots of stone and space.
Central location for town. Historic building beautifully restored. Plenty of parking available
Efficient check in by friendly staff, a very comfortable room and an excellent breakfast. The building has historical character which has not been lost in its conversion to the Pousada and there is a very calm atmosphere which lends itself to a very pleasant stay. The hotel has a wonderful view over the city which is within easy walking distance. Our second stay and hopefully not our last.
Huge comfortable bed overlooking the infinity swimming pool in the gardens below. Powerful shower. Thick stone walls meant total tranquility. Enormous airy modern atrium. Staff eager to please. Large private car park. Short stroll into the old town.
Hard to find as there are no signs in Viseu. Staff under training seem nervous and tense, terrified of making a mistake perhaps. Lunch in the restaurant not as good as we had been led to believe.
The building is wonderful. The central courtyard has been roofed over and converted to a huge sitting area/bar. The room we were in was nice and quiet - the walls are really thick - but decoration and furniture subdued. Breakfast is a lavish buffet with lots of choice, including delicious Portuguese breads & pastries.
Having to drag our suitcases up the ramp from the car park.
