Beautiful location on the river, elegant pousada, the new relaxation spaces by the pool and river. The breakfast offers a large variety of Portuguese products, but also French pastry (croissants, chaussons aux pommes - excellents, pains au chocolat) and the international eggs & bacon. The Pousada is a bit off-centered, therefore you need a car to go to Porto. The guest rooms are not in the pousada anymore, but in the building next door (a former flour factory completely renovated), but they are very cosy and the building itself has a hushed atmosphere. Only insignificant details, but here they are: No fresh orange juice for breakfast. The fact that there was no information about the rooms not being in the palacio anymore. The very annoying beeping if the room door was not fully closed.

Easy to find, riverside castle with comfortable rooms in annex. Very attentive staff, nice bar and breKfast rooms overlooking river. Free parking Not convenient to metro station but taxi was about 17 euros into city center. Door between the two buildings was broken when we were there, so walk to room from reception/restaurant was a long one. Hopefully will be fixed soon

The Palacio was beautiful and the food and service was excellent. It was lovely to be by the river and not far from town. The suite overlooked rubbish bins on one side and had a slight smell of mold and damp.

Lovely building and great views of the river Not gay friendly and not that friendly full stop! You are captive in the area and will have to get a taxi if you want to eat anywhere other than the hotel which only offers very traditional meat based food

the greeting on arrival was excellent, we were given a glass of port while being checked in. as it was my birthday we were upgraded to a fantastic room. the staff could not do enough for us were very helpfull on our questions about what to see and do in porto and with transport requests. the spar was luxurious and a nice place to relax after a day sightseeing. anyone thinging about using this hotel do so perhaps a little out of town but transport was qoick and efficient we used a two day hop on/off blue bus pass that stoped just outside the hotel to get into and around the sights of porto great value no tea making equipment in room d

The infinity pool and Palace were beautiful. The staff was excellent. I was annoyed with The silly wifi system. Although it was free, you had to log in with a new password every 30 minutes. It was maddening! Also, the hotel is not in the center of town as advertised. It is really out of the way, requiring a cab for all comings and goings, unless you resort to taking the blue tourist bus.

The swimming pools. Riverside location. Interesting conversion of old palace and separate fomer mill building. Friendly and helpful staff. Location not suitable for anybody without their own car, unable to walk up the long hill to Campanha Metro station, or not wishing to rely on taxis. Finding information about the buses proved beyond us. Hardly the fault of the hotel, and a taxi to and from the centre was not expensive. Because of the way the buildings were converted, it was necessary to go to ground level in the mill building where the rooms are, walk across (under cover) into the fomer place where the reception and restaurant are located and go up a floor by another lift. This could get tedious

Loved the pool area and the modern rooms! It was a bit outside of town, though to be fair it was only 5-10 euros to get anywhere in Porto

My wife and I enjoyed the 3 days we stayed at Pousada Do Porto in July 2012. The staff were a bit `amateurish' and in general very young. A very annoying feature (and one I've never come across in all my travels across the globe) was the 30 min internet vouchers after which new data had to be entered into the computer.

The rooms and grounds were exceptional with wonderful views over the Douro River. The evening meal was not of a standard I have come to expect from this class of hotel. The serving plates were hotter than the the actual food giving the impression that the food had been cooked and then reheated.

The location of the Pousada is amazing! Set right on the river I spend hours gazing at the river life and scenery around it. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff can't do enough to help. We asked to change rooms so we had a river view and it wasn't a problem (although the room was V.small compared to the room we had at the front of the building). The atmosphere was so relaxing and the facilities ensured you could relax and never leave the complex unless you really wanted to :-) It's a really special place and if you want to treat yourself then it's worth the money. Pigeon poo! There were a lot of pigeons around the pool area and they would drink from the pool and leave their droppings which was pretty unhygienic and unpleasant - they need to sort the pigeon problem out or clean the pool area several times a day.......

Nice pousada with excellent marriage between public rooms in the old palacio and bedrooms in the made over old soap factory. Excellent breakfast buffet and nice pool/terrace area overlooking the Douro. Location is a bit strange - 15 minutes east (by car or taxi) of the centre of Porto.

We had a lovely and luxurious stay at Freixo. Two large rooms and a bathroom, use of the pools and all amenities with a fabulous breakfast. It was a bit like being ib n a museum in some of the rooms we walked through, quiet and rather empty, but that added to the atmosphere. The bar and restaurant were attractive and very comfortable. It was one of the more expensive places we stayed but the price was not high for what we got. Location is a bit out of Porto and we took taxis to get in. It was nice to be out of town if you are lying by the pollo however.
