Comfortable room with a great sea view. Convenient as within walking distance of central Funchal. Very quiet.
Buffet breakfast was a bit monotonous. Cooked option quite poor- very greasy bacon and cold scrambled egg. Coffee from machine was of mediocre quality. Decor and bathroom fittings a bit tired.
Felt like a family run business and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were lovely and secluded even though it was close to town
Some of the facilities were starting to look a bit tired - outdoor chairs that needed painting and our bathroom the fittings were quite old.
Lovely friendly staff, comfortable, clean and quiet room with excellent sea view. Fabulous location, lovely buffet breakfast. Very reasonably priced considering the facilities available. Also had free Wi-Fi which was handy.
some of the breakfast staff were a little brusque. Could have been more attentive
Perfect location, easy walk to the city with access to the sea. Service excellent, efficient, friendly and helpful. B&B rates very good value for money. Joe's cocktail bar a great way to start and end an evening, lots of very good restaurants only a walk away.
No complaints at all, it delivers its promise.
Gardens and grounds very nice. Good location near town and promenade.
Booked a double room but got a twin Booked garden view but looked onto a wall Room adequate but not 4 star Information on arrival was poor. Only found out about sister hotel and facilities when checking out!
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and it feels very tranquil. The small outdoor pool is heated and has a great view over the sea. There are a number of cosy little hideaways. It is easy to walk to the town centre in about 20 mins, if you don't like steep slopes then a bus back might be better. We will be going back again next year.
I liked the atmosphere and character of the hotel. It was walking distance from Funchal centre.
Stayed at the bottom hotel which was a good location, nice sea view and easy walk to Funchal centre. Very nice, friendly staff who were willing to help with bookings and questions.
Single beds pushed together to make a double (ie really a single) and no WI FI available in the room.
The warmth and friendliness of the hotel matched that of the whole Island. The peace and tranquility of the gardens overlooking the sea outclassed any beach holiday! and with a heated swimming pool what more could I have wished for. The varied menu in the friendly dining room helped to contribute to a very enjoyable holiday experience. We are looking forward to our next visit to this beautiful Island and to this hotel.
Having to come home.
The whole atmosphere of the hotel and friendlyness of staff and nearness to Funchal
No dislikes !
The Hotel is a sea of calm and decorum. We like this atmosphere and will stay here again. The location is hard to beat. The food is fine.
Maybe we are being a little harsh here because the value for money is excellent. However, some constructive considerations may be - We stayed in a Garden room in the old house... not what we where expecting. Some new carpet/furniture would improve things immensely..as would simply cleaning the windows. We could not envisage staying in this room in the summer with no air con.
If you want "high-tech" , "wow" factor architecture then choose Pestana Casino nearby, but for my money, this traditional "Quinta" was perfect but without the "Quinta" prices! Beautiful setting, comfortable, stylish furnishings, set in lovely gardens, with charming, interesting buildings. Central Funchal was "walkable". Able to use outdoor pool in gardens (heated) even in January, but bottom pool too cold. Breakfasts great, lots of choice, taking account of mix of nationalities and their traditional culinary requirements. Quiet, restful setting, it was January, though, and hotel by no means full. Rooms by kitchen may have been noisy. We were in Room 17, simply furnished but good value, and delightful view of garden. I even got used to the "cheesy" repetitive, piped muzak! Would definitely book again. Kettle now provided (in all rooms?) but take your own teabags!
Not exclusive to this hotel - as we found this all over Portugal, but unwary visitors should be made aware of the "coperta" ("cover" charge) 2.50 euros per person at table. This was applied as we ate the small roll. Difficult to know if this is provided free or not (as tapas in Spain), and being British, we are always reticent to ask if something is included in the price! 5 euros extra for a meal costing 30 euros leaves a "bad taste in the mouth"! We didn't book another dinner here, so hotel lost out by not explaining this. This is not a big "deal" but free wi-fi in room would've been nice.
Location, room, breakfast, staff - all excellent. The response to our request for a particular type of room was quick and courteous - and positive.
Facilities for making a cup of tea in the room would have added greatly to our enjoyment.
Charming hotel good staff a most enjoyable stay would definately return
Restaurant and external bar area were tired
We chose to spend our Christmas Holiday as well as celebrating a special anniversary at this very popular hotel. The choice could not have been better. Our room was very nice with a small veranda which overlooked the neat and well kept gardens which were on different levels. It was nice to stroll through the levels and discover the many native Madeiran plants. The swimming pool was nicely situated on the bottom level of the garden surrounded by seats and more trees and plants which complemented the beautiful sea view. This very popular hotel was comfortable, clean and classically furnished. The staff were excellent, always cheerful and ready to assist. The cuisine was very good and freshly prepared. Nothing was too much trouble. We assumed that for guests unable to negotiate the steps and pathways a second part of the hotel was situated on a lower level above the cliffs with excellent sea views and good amenities. The site was a more modern building, easily reached by car or the garden lift and bridge from the upper levels of the hotel. When exploring the terraces and gardens of the lower level they appeared to be more easily negotiated. So it would appear in general that all guests would be well catered for. So much so we have booked one year in advance for Christmas and New Year.
Location, proximity to town & restaurants. Hotel restaurant and bar very friendly. Hotel staff very accommodating.
Some of electric wiring in room looked in need of maintenance. Limited TV channels.
Good restaurant and convenient location. Good reataurant staff.
The rooms are very variable. The first one we were given was in urgent need of an upgrade. The pine headboard for example was badly stained. The second room was a bit better but not clean. We were troubled by cockroaches, a problem with the garden rooms apparently; the female receptionist was unhelpful. One of the pools was in our opinion in need of a thorough clean.
The location for us could not be bettered & we will be back next year!
We did miss tea & coffee facilities for first thing in the morning without having to call room service
The staff, the service, the room with balcony, the breakfast,
No Wi-Fi in the room, only in the reception area.
lovely room with balcony overlooking the sea. Nice garden with pool. We enjoyed our stay
The restaurant was very good and the staff very helpful and kind.
The room 5 in the old house is not what I expected of a 4 star hotel. The shower room has no where to put your toilet things. The bedroom is cold at this time of year as it gets no sun. There is only one power point that runs three appliances. The TV is an old 14 inch screen.
Lovely hotel and s good breakfast
No dinner in my hotel had to wait till 7pm go to other hotel and fact I had no heating on room desire complaining nothing was done a great shame
Staff and location was fantastic
Shame about the weather
Just about everything! Great Hotel, great staff, views, location and pool area. Very quiet and peacefull, food and restaurant great, staff and ambiance make it eating there an occassion not a neccessity. Can't fault the place and already looking at going again. Same Hotel of course. My first visit to Madeira, loved the Island and Funchal. Best holiday for years!
Only a small thing..tea making facility in room - very British I know! That's all.
