Beautiful setting. Careful attention to gardens Attention to detail that one would expect from what was a Relais Chateau when we booked. Maintenance and cleanliness issues. Entrance smelled of urine! Lawn chairs were dirty and covered with leaves in our courtyard!

This was the only disappointing booking in our entire trip. It was the most expensive and the least enjoyable. The rooms were worn, the lights in the communal areas were always off, and the lunch we had when we arrived was mediocre and very expensive. The breakfasts were fine but not luxury.

The main building is a beautiful old house set in lovely gardens. That was about it from a positive sense - it could have been so much better but I came away disappointed feeling that I had poor value for money. Very difficult to find the place with the entrance being along a narrow opening off a road through an industrial area. An awful "modern" extension to the main building really downgrades the setting of the hotel. Overall, a gloomy place trading on a medieval murder story. The main restaurant was good but very overpriced and in my view, poor value for money. Similarly, the breakfast was overpriced and not very imaginative.

Everything is done so that you feel comfortable, almost at home. Take time to relax in the old part of the palace, and its cosy lounges. We have spent half a day at the Spa, what a place... a quick round of golf, nice gourmet restaurant, ....nothing wrong, will have to come back relatively far from city center, need a car to visit the university...but why should you leave this place?

Beautiful hotel with a great restaurant. It is not at Coimbra's centre but it can be easily reached with a short drive or 15/20 minute walk. The indoor swimming pool's water could have been warmer. The staff were efficient but not particularly friendly.

The staff is always superb making your stay remarkable. I am a customer of quinta daslagrimas for more than 15 years and I always come back. Rooms were a bit cold as well as the path to the spa. Diner was too slowly before starters.

The hotel's history and one particular member of the staff - Jorge - who went the extra mile (literally and figuratively). After we checked in, we decided to walk out in the rain toward the old city and ran into Jorge in the parking lot. He offered us a ride in his own car and ended up giving us the "Cook's tour" of the city. This was totally volunteered and unexpected. Jorge is a valuable employee who made an otherwise impersonal hotel, a memorable place to stay. As I referenced above, the hotel's front desk staff was quite stuffy and lacked the personal graciousness we had experienced in the other eight accommodations we stayed at in Portugal.

Very clean, contemporary, with very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Nice grounds - their own park, beautifully landscaped. A lot of free stuff, like a spa or golf. Long walk to the town center, mostly along run down street, or have to take a taxi. No wi-fi in the rooms. They tried to hard sell their own expensive restaurant (Michelin rated), rather than suggest a local place - and there are plenty of them in town.

pool area pleasant, comfortable bed. Nice gardens. Sauna was a bit of a disappointment, only opens at 10.30, or one has to switch it on him/herself before that time. There is no thermometer or working watch. But at least there is one. Location a bit out of the city.

The building with the reception/restaurant part. The huge, old, garden setting and the design of the room. The restaurant (Michelin recommended) is worth exploring. Tv programmes did not work. The shower hose was badly leaking. We also were kind of disappointed by the "garden view" of our room.

Beautiful old building which has a modern block containing the spa area attached. We booked a room in the old which, when we arrived a little earlier than the check in time, wasn't ready for us. We had lunch at the restaurant by the pool, and when we returned to reception, we were shown to an upgraded suite. An amazing room with a lovely view to the gardens. The service throughout our stay was attentive and faultless. We ate in the Michelin 'Arcadas' restaurant in the evening and although the meal took longer than we expected, the food was delicious and wonderfully presented. The table service was once again, faultless. I had seen a few comments online regarding the new block seeming "tacked onto" the old manor house, and this did influence my decision to book a room on the older side. Although the corridors are a little featureless, the other common areas such as the restaurant are well furnished and fall on the comfortable side of modern rather than corporate block. My only nitpick is that although there is a lot of artwork relating to the story of Pedro & Innes throughout the hotel, there was little in the room pack to give you a background to the legend. The older building is wonderfull and has many beautiful rooms to explore. A small booklet giving a history of their use, describing the architecture & furniture and fascinating characters who filled pictures and fotos would have been welcome.
