O ambiente do quarto do Lagar é encantador.
It was difficult not to imagine owning Quinta de Rio Alcaide and keeping it all to myself. We LOVED this place. Nestling on the outskirts of little-known Porto De Mos, this sprawling 200-year-old former farmhouse is stunning. A river-fed pool, an orchard, a windmill and acres and acres of tree-filled hillside add to the majesty and tranquility. When we arrived, a magnificent white horse stared down from the hilltop, punctuating a landscape that filled my heart. It's the sort of place you'd own if you were rich and stylish and wanted to get away from it all. Large rooms, old furniture, quiet elegance... Goncalo, the young and thoughtful owner, made our stay all the better, recommending great beaches, restaurants and days out. He was the perfect host to the family as we gathered on his doorstep to absorb his wifi. Every day I plotted to try to make enough money to buy the place...
no washing machine and too many terrorist-like mosquitoes
We didn't have a car, and there's basically no public transport at all; so we got there with a taxi. It was raining, pouring rain. Gonzalo, absolutly lovely man, was waiting for us, he was worried we wouldn't be able to go to the windmill, that we had reserved. So he proposed us the studio. huge place, absolutly romantic. The Quinta is beyond lovely, it has an extraordinary garden, even a swimming pool. You can tell there's a lot of nature to see, but we just weren't prepare enough to walk through it.
Well the location is not the best you can get. The city next to it is: "porto de mos", and is not very interesting in itself, probably because people only sleep there and work in other bigger cities. The cleanliness was also just ok, the room wasn't made up the next day and the bathroom needed proper cleaning. Also, there was no breakfast, which is not so cool given the fact that there are no restaurants around.
Quinta de Rio Alcaide is located in a beautiful setting on the edge of the city of Porto de Mos. The grounds are stunning...groves of fruit trees, rolling hillsides, quaint facilities to accommodate couples, small families, or groups. Our rental of a 3 bedroom house was more than spacious enough to accommodate our group of 6 (3 couples). The furnishings were comfortable, kitchen(s) provided all we needed, and the views from every room were spectacular. A very serene setting indeed!
accommodation good. Quite close to town.
could not get english channels. Not a lot to do locally.
The charm of an old country house. The views across to wooded hillsides. The owner could not do enough to help, and to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The lack of internet in the rooms. The lack of water pressure.
The youthful and sprightly owner-Goncalvo- he works really hard at maintaining his property for his guests. The indescribably bucolic countryside, surrounding. Goncalvo & his housekeeper rspecting my privacy- when requested. Being in accomodations that are MUCH quieter than the average hotel room. The completely bespoke furnishings of my flat. Learning how to properly load the fireplace; to keep my habitation warm at night. Taking a break from the typically banal, uniform furnishings of an average hotel room. Experiencing the Portuguese version of small town life. A really homey feel to my apartment/villa. Anytime there was a request or concern; Goncalvo doing his best to address or fix the situation. Goncalvo is an encyclopaedia of information about the local area. He is a charming & friendly man. One of the most photogenic locales for a country inn.
Shivering the entire first night- waiting for the nonexistant central heating to kick in. Not realizing that my villa is actually connected to another apartment. I suppose people's definition of villa, varies.
The rural/rustic ambiance and surroundings are amazing
The hot water wasn´t that hot in the mornig and it takes ages to reach the shower
