Beautiful garden and pool, big room with big terrace overlooking the gardens, our room (studio) had a fully furnished kitchen and was suitable for self catering. Close to airport (15min by car). Restaurants and also breakfast at the Quinta were high priced (we cannot comment on the quality however, since we had breakfast + dinner outside in the village). There is a good bakery with nice pastries and very good coffee right up the street and very good restaurant at village square. Parking on premises of the Qunita is limited/crowded and charged extra (2 eur / day). You should have a car (we think) if you stay there or else have to use taxis and local buses if you want to do trips or hikes at local sights.

I liked everything about this hotel. The gardens are absolutely stunning and very well looked after. Reception staff was always very friendly and helpful. The little kitchen is perfect and there's a bakery next door and a supermarket next to the bakery. It's open late every day.The cleaner was great and even did my dishes most of the time. I didn't try any of the restaurants or the spa. The view over the Atlantic is breathtaking and the pool is very nice too.

the great garden they take extra mony for parking!!!! It seems to us that there are people in the hotel stuff that make dirty money from the parking, they make small "mistakes" ... you should check the receipts. the Gourmet restaurant that the staff recommend, was one of the worst restaurant where we ate in Madara and really not worth the exaggerated price we paid there. The soup was from a can of tomato sauce, the other dishes were tasteless and certainly not gourmet.

We loved this hotel for its style of hotel, small chalets type rooms set amongst the most amazing gardens, it was generally always quiet and the pool side setting tranquil. All the rooms are very large with private garden space and/or verandahs. Its location was good, Canico has 2 excellent restaurants as well as the hotel restaurants and each room has its own self-catering facilities which we found very useful. We did a lot of levada walks, and so to prepare own food was brilliant. We loved coming back to the hotel because it was so tranquil. Not so good for young families, children would get bored too quickly, but if you love gardens this is the place to come to. Will definitely go again. There wasnt anything we didnt like, and a special thanks to Mario the male receptionist who upgraded us to a lovely room with very large verandah and lovely views because I asked to be on a top floor (third) and as we had booked a studio room this would have been on a lower floor, so thankyou Mario!!

Gardens were wonderful and added to the attractive appearance of the hotel; outlook of hotel was very good; rooms were very accommodating; very good layout of facilities; staff very friendly and helpful.Bus stop within 50 yards of hotel gates - bus service very good and cheap - car hire unnecessary. Two good restaurants within 5 minutes walk thought the use of the spa (not treatments) would be included in the overall fee. The automatic light outside the room was too far away from the door and made it difficult to unlock the door at night.

the quinta splendida wellness & botanical garden is well located and has lovely gardens. The food in the restarant was very good. although the quinta had 3 restaurants and some bars not all were open. There was no view of the sea from our "side sea view studio".The standard of cleanliness in the room was very disapointing.

Luxurious rooms, fabulous views, wonderful surroundings, relaxing and peaceful. Bathrooms slightly out-of-date, in comparison to the luxury of the rooms. No double matress available although this had been pre-requested.

The Hotel was completely relaxing, set in beautiful gardens. The sea view from my balcony was breathtaking and I was able to sit on the balcony to watch the sunrise. The Hotel staff were all very friendly, smiley and helpful at all times. The main restaurant 'La Perla' is expensive but the food and service is top-notch and well worth treating yourself! The atmosphere in the restaurant is also very relaxing, there is no rush between courses, which I liked. A wonderful relaxing and peaceful holiday. I feel totally refreshed! There were a few little ants in the room, but I was able to get rid of them quite easily - it wasn't a problem.

We have vacation for 1 week in this hotel at the end of September. It was chosen by good location and excellent territory of hotel. The standard studio room was according to our expectation (basic room with good price in good hotel), but we used upgrade to spa room and it was absolutely perfect and stay in hotel passed as once second in the heaven. We had a chance to use spa services and had visited La Perla restaurant. Every minute there was excellent.

The garden and the overall feeling of the hotel was great. We received an upgrade to an apartment (we payed for a studio) which was wonderful. Had a small private garden in front of the entrance and a table outside, so we were able to have dinner in the beautiful garden. The room was clean, the towels were changed every day. Also, the cleaning lady washed the dishes for us a few times. The restaurants are also good quality and the hotel is organizing trips and levadas every day of the week. There's also a hotel-minibus going to Funchal once a day, for free. The guests of the hotel were also good neighbors (no noisy children or party animals around). Overall, I think it was a good value for money.
