The hosts were very friendly and helpful. It was useful having free wifi.
The sheets had multiple black hairs on them, even when the bed seemed to be made each day, new black hairs appeared. The shower was broken, and the towel had a huge hole in it. There was also no actual window, it was just a window to a utility room somewhere. This was a shame as the hosts were nice and the place was in a good location.
Staff were very helpful.
Plastic sheet on matress
Nice hostel, but only for short visits (max 2-3 nights) if you want to see Porto.
Extremely small shower = water everywhere. Bed was screwed to the wall, thin walls.
Location is great, stuff is friendly, rooms are clean and tidy.
Had troubles with internet access. Connection was good enough on the first floor, in a hall, but in the room didn't connect.
hotel is well-situated, plenty of parking on site.
Not the newest or cleanest and had some troubles with water being switched off in the middle of the night
Not in a good area- not suitable for a group of girls traveling. Cab ride away from attractions in Porto.
The room was larger than any other cheap rooms we stayed at in Portugal. The bed was relatively comfy, there was an ensuite bathroom, and a fan that really helped to keep the room cool and the air circulated
Wifi didn't reach our room, only were given one tiny garbage can in the bathroom and no garbage in the bedroom, so we filled that up easily and it overflowed quite a bit
staff very helpful and friendly
Value for Money
poor Wi-Fi, dark room, poor english skills.
COZY AND COMFORTABLE CHEAP REALLY NICE STUFF AND PERSONEL
FAR AWAY FROM BOLHAO STATION WIFI DOES NOT WORKS PROPERLY DO NOT HAS BREAKFAST AVAILABLE
amazing parking! entrance straight from the parking to the hotel. rooms are very clean, nice lobby, great staff
The gentlemen on the reception are great, but a bit more English language would help.
18 euros for a room with free parking and wifi. Room initally booked was right near to reception, when I asked the guy to move me to somewhere quieter, he did so straight away no problems.
Nothing at all - might be a problem if you needed to use the metro as it is a bit of a walk. But I was driving anyway
Hugely friendly and excellent staff! Great location, despite being a little out of the centre, there are cafes and bars nearby and a short stroll down the hill to the busier areas.
Having to leave
The Bela Star is located rather far from the city center. It took me about a half hour to reach the river, and that was a downhill walk. At the end of the day, I returned via metro from the stop outside the São Benito Railway Station. The station closest to the hotel is Marquis, and even that is a good 15 minute walk. But at least it is on the level, and not uphill. Porto is very hilly and distances that appear quite short on a flat map can mean a deceptively long and tiring walk. As someone mentioned in another review, the Porto maps should have topographical elevation lines so you have a better idea of what you are getting yourself into by walking from point A to point B. My room was simple, but very clean and adequate. The double bed was very comfortable and I had one of the best night's sleep on my entire trip. There are two little nightstands with drawers, one on each side of the bed, a small desk and chair, a small wall mounted TV with remote, and a large built in closet. The bathroom was fine and the shower worked well with plenty of pressure and hot water. Wifi signal was excellent. The hotel has free parking, but it was an adventure. I had to drive through a rather narrow opening and then up VERY steep not solidly paved roadway to reach the flat parking area. I am not skilled with manual transmission, and getting going on a hill gives me much anxiety. Well this road nearly gave me heart failure. I stalled the car right near the top and I couldn't get it going again. It stalled and stalled and stalled. After about a half dozen tries, and several dozen Hail Marys, I finally made it over the edge and into the parking area. I was a wreck!! The older gentleman at the desk, the owner no doubt, is very personable and eager to please. With my Spanish and little bit of Portuguese, we were able to make ourselves understood. Room price was 18€. I bought the City Sightseeing Tour ticket for 20€.
Cheap, clean and nice staff.
Cold in room, long walk up hill from city center and poor wi-fi.
nothing. I booked a room and got a bloody attic with no AC and no fan working.
parking is great
rooms were very narrow and small
bath tube in toilet, clean room, should ask to change to room ground floor or 1st floor. basement room was very bad.
they gave under ground room(no light!!) first night, it was smelly noisy and dark. i tried to change room to 1st floor but they do not want give to me(in my opinion i made booking from company) but keep trying. staff can not speak English at all. Hard to communicate with them.
wi fi not strong for all the rooms
price, location, staff
torn bath towels, noisy at night
The room has private bathroom, the price
The place is not so close to the metro station, the staff cannot speak English, but they tried to help us with any information (in Portuguese). Sometimes the hot water flows cold and the room was rather cold during our stay even though there was a heater was turned on.
The room was clean
The man in reception did not speak a word in English. He got angry on us because we didn't know straigt away how to use a heater. Also later he was speaking to us in Portuguese sounding really annoyed.
The window was broken and was unable to be close, thus, it was really cold March staying...
Good place for exploring Porto, close to downtown. Free parking. Friendly staff ( old men explained us how to find good and cheap restaurant. We spent nice first evening there).
Missed chairs in room.
It is a excellent value for money and the staff there are very friendly. Free parking (and ample of it) is a big bonus.
squeeky bed, wifi on and off and rooms very close to each other.
