Once a big sea port, Aveiro lies in a region of valleys cut by mountains and fertile lagoon plains. These plains are bathed by the Ria (Lagoon), which came into existence in the 16th century after terrible storms. It covers 11,000 hectares, with 4 main channels forming inlets and countless islands and islets.
The area is rich in fish and water fowl and there are excellent fishing facilities, both in the lagoon and in the open sea. Hunting is also a possibility and the larger stretches of water welcome all kinds of aquatic sports.
The city of Aveiro is crossed by canals, which give it quite an individual character, and in the old quarter, tourists can see the quaint white washed houses of the fishermen and visit, early in the morning, the Mercado do Peixe - an auction of the fish caught during the night.
Of all the boats seen in the area, the Moliceiro is the most elegant, being perfectly lined, painted with bright colours and often with ingenious and humorous decorations.
The fine beach of São Jacinto lies close to the woodland and the São Jacinto Dunes Natural Reserve, with well preserved dunes and a diverse flora and fauna.
Those who appreciate good food can taste the delicious eel stew and a variety of sea and lagoon fish soups. But Aveiro is specially known for its sweets: the most famous is "ovos moles" ("soft eggs") - sweetened egg yolk in candied casings shaped like fish or barrels.

The Hotel is located directly in the heart of the town in a small side street. Even though the main bar area is very close, quite and calm. Good bed and new bathroom. Very poor breakfast (only bread and marmalade, no salty thinks). Rooms very small (narrow), not enough space in the wardrobe to unpack suitcase. |

The hotel was at a good location. Nice Hotel interior. The staff spoke little English. No wi-fi but 2 PCs connected to the Internet free of charge in the lobby. No Hotel parking. Very very thin walls!!! |

Back alley location was nice and quiet. Nice breakfast in a spacious living room/dining room complete with internet on two computers. Big bathrooms. Nice TV over the bed. No elevator. |

This hotel was centrally located in Aveiro... close to the pedestrian shopping area, the canals, and several restaurants. The owner/manager also spoke English very well and this was helpful to us. The hotel is undergoing some plumbing renovations at the moment. However, the owner was extremely courteous about checking with us before the workers began making noise, and she was quite apologetic for any inconvenience. It was not an inconvenience to us because we did not hang out in the room a lot during the day. |

located in the central town. Free internet access was available. very tiny room and the bathroom was right next to the bed, I could open the slide door to the toilet lying on the bed. The glasses provided at the sink were really dirty. Breakfast was very poor. I stayed in Portugal for 10 days and there were much better hotels with lower price. |

Owner speaks good English and is very helpful. Free Internet access. Central location. Room was cleaned daily. Old furniture, bathroom clean but oddly small and could use a renovation. Breakfast is bread+marmelade or cereal only. |

Het is goedkoop en biedt basis comfort. Het ligt midden in het centrum en het uitgaansgebied. 's Nachts kan het rumoerig zijn, omdat het midden in het centrum ligt. Parkeren is ietwat lastig. |
