Situated in central Tavira, with views over the River Gilão, the Ria Formosa, the ocean and the town's rooftops, the Residencial Pôr do Sol offers comfortable, recently redecorated accommodation.

All of the hotel’s rooms are comfortable, large and clean, and some of the rooms have been recently redecorated to provide guests with the best comfort. Each room has a full-sized bathroom and some have a desk and chairs or a sofa.

The hotel is a peaceful tranquil base in which to relax after a day of exploring the charming town of Tavira and its rich history and fascinating architecture. With the hotel as a comfortable and relaxing base, you can spend your time bird watching or just enjoy lazy days on the beach. However you choose to spend your day, you can see the time pass as the sun sets from the rooftop terrace. All you have to do is relax.

The hotel’s special agreement with a local salon and day spa in Tavira allows guests the opportunity to enjoy the spa’s range of relaxing and therapeutic treatments at a discounted rate. The spa is ideal for those enjoying a restful, relaxing and restorative break or those seeking some luxurious pampering or a little well-earned indulgence. The spa offers massages, body treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures. Please feel free to ask at the hotel regarding the special treatments and the special rates available for hotel guests.

Starting towards the end of July 2008, the Residencial will also have its own boat to take its guest to the beaches, or special organized day trips doing watersports, spear fishing, snorkelling or bird-watching. Almost everyday in the late afternoon, our guests can enjoy a drink on the roof terrace or even a barbecue of fish caught during the day trips. With this activities Residencial Pôr do Sol makes the difference on the local accommodation offer.

All rooms are light, spacious and airy. Each room has a full-sized bathroom and some have a desk and chairs, where the guests can just relax or work.

Area information

Situated in the centre of Tavira, the hotel is close to everything that the town has to offer. The property is just metres away from the River Gilão and all of the town’s supermarkets, restaurants, bars, cafes and bakeries. During the warmer months, you can catch a ferry or a water taxi to the sandbar island known as Ilha de Tavira. There you can enjoy the Ria Formosa National Park and the clean beaches with fantastic fine, warm sand. Alternatively, you could rent a bicycle and try out part of the Algarve Eco-Via route, which links Vila Real do St. Antonio, on the Spanish border, with Sagres, passing through some of the most fantastic coastline on the Algarve along the way. If that seems too energetic, then there are plenty of other activities and things to see and do nearby, including horse riding, sports like tennis and swimming in the town’s fantastic municipal swimming pools.

Tavira also has plenty to offer those interested in architecture, history and culture. The town is home to more than 35 churches. If you are driving, you can tour Tavira's Serra and see the area’s unspoilt little villages that seem to have frozen in time.

If you are looking for golf, the region boasts some of the best courses in Portugal, including Benmore, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima, all of which are just a few minutes way. Monte Rei Golf & Country Club is a highly prestigious golf resort in the Eastern Algarve, which features 2 Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses. The resort is less than 15 minutes away from the hotel. Castro Marin golf course is situated near the Spanish border, and there are also new courses being built along the Guadiana River.

We stayed in an apartment for 4 people and were very pleasantly surprised by the standard of comfort and facilities on offer - and especially the great view from the roof terrace. (NB the residencia is around the corner from the road that's given as the address - a bit disconcerting when you arrive)

Very friendly staff, made you feel like part of the family. The Residencial is a very informal place. Nice breakfast in the roof terrace, best orange juice I have tasted. Nice to see that they now had table cloths as one other guest had commented. Very clean and probably the bigest rooms I have stayed in for some time, and right in the center of town.

Wifi, wat patchy, and the Residencial is trying to get that fixed. Portuguese Telecom was their trying to fix it. Cable TV was installed the day we left, so the next time I can watch a movie late at night. Breakfast could be better, but when I asked for fresh fruit, it was brought to me in minutes. Some rooms have been decorated but not all, and manager says that all will be done before Aug08.

The town of Tavira is lovely, the position of the hotel is not great but at no time did we feel unsafe.

We spoke to the current owner who has recently taken the hotel and there will be good changes happening shortly.

La ubicación, el trato del personal (simpáticos y agradables) y el desayuno (para tratarse de un "hostal" el desayuno fue muy bueno, con excelente zumo y bollería artesanal portuguesa). El apartamento era amplio y espacioso.

Los muebles del apartamento son antiquísimos, con fuerte olor a viejo y antiguo. Necesitan un cambio urgente. No hay ascensor y es un inconveniente. En general caro para las prestaciones ofrecidas, no hay servicio de habitación diario (cambio de toallas, camas...)

La camera, spaziosa e comoda. Buono anche il bagno e la pulizia. Buone le informazioni sulla città forniteci alla reception.

Nessuno alla reception al nostro arrivo. Abbiamo dovuto fare una chiamata (internazionale) col ns. cellulare per farci aprire. Nessuna o scarsa presenza di personale durante la colazione. I tavoli (troppo pochi ed alcuni esposti al sole, in terrazzo) non venivano puliti a fine colazione. Veramente deludente per un hotel pagato 80,00 euro a notte! Peccato, perchè per il resto ci siamo trovati bene.

La limpieza de las habitaciones, el personal encantador y las instalaciones (estuvimos en un apartamento) muy buenas

El hotel es muy acogedor y el personal encantador. Las habitaciones están limpias y son muy cómodas. Además, el desayuno en la terraza es muy agradable.

habitacion amplia, buen desayuno.

sin ascensor, no habia nadie en recepcion y la puerta cerrada al llegar, aire acondicionado roto (aunque lo arreglaron rapido), la conexion a internet gratuita no estaba disponible. decia vistas al rio, ciudad y oceano y el balcon daba a una calle.

Las habitaciones son muy amplias , luminosas y equipadas. El desyuno es muy bueno, por fin zumo natural de verdad! Buena ubicación.
