Our room is very spacious but the layout is akward. Though the structure and design of the hotel are weired, it is generally a comfortable hotel. Being a part of the wall of Elvas, the hotel is suitable travellers that would like to experience portugese style. I think the hotel just needs more light. At night, the passege of the first floor is too dark and looks really scrary. |

Great location and staying in a castle-like setting. Ac available (though ours did not appear to be working). Quiet. The hotel mixes smoking and non-smoking rooms so the hallway is always smoky. Not sure how they get around portugal's non-smoking laws with this one. Beds are very hard. Staff not very knowledge about local attractions. Got 2 pieces of information from 2 different front staff and neither was correct |

The building (formerly a convent) has been beautifully converted into a lovely and unusual hotel, set in the perfect location within the walls of Elvas. There is a lovely shaded garden, with swimming pool looking out across the walls to a near-by fortress. Parking is available and there are bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Excellent value for money (but don't expect total luxury or perfection) - we loved it here. The hotel bar and restaurant were closed (apart from for breakfast) whilst we were there (2 nights in mid-September) but possibly this was because late in season. This did not matter as there were alternatives, although it seemed a shame more use was not made of the lovely gardens. |

Great atmosphere in a facinating location. The location was very restful. The Restaurant was not operational and the bar open only for short periods. English was limited among most staff. |

I particularly like the way the architects and designers recovered such an old and badly treated building, and transformed it into a pleasant "modern" hotel. |
