Very very romantic place, good location to visit castles. Fresh orange juice for breakfast, good wifi

We liked the friendly service, and old world charm of this hotel. We expected Hercules Poirot to arrive in the breakfast room any time, because it was that type of hotel

When we arrived we got a very warm welcome from the lady of the house. She gave us all the information about Sintra in English and could even speak French. The house is very old, though very romantic and beautiful in its own way. This is a very nice place for people who are bored of normal hotel rooms. In the evening you can drink a glass of wine at the fireplace in the house or walk around in the beautiful garden.

The location of the hotel is good if you decent to the city center by car. We have walked to the city center by food and risked our life at the dark roads in the evening.

This place is romantic if you like shabby-sheik. We enjoyed the ambience of the old manor. Don't expect a modern sheen. The staff were friendly and they kept a nice fire going in the downstairs eating area. There were board games to be had in another room. I think this place might feel completely different in the summer months but it suited us during somewhat unsettled weather.

We would have just liked real orange juice with breakfast rather than orange drink.

Very friendly helpful staff. Extra heater switched on in bedroom in the evenings for our return. We enjoyed delightful woodland walk up to Pena Palace & the Moorish Castle. Also walk down to Sintra through local park.

Dining room a bit chilly for breakfast in spite of open fire.

Staff were so friendly, really close to Pena and Moorish castle and close to sao paulo de Sintra which has nightlife.and good restaurants.

Bed was a bit hard but just a bit!

Beautifully quaint and unusual. Full of character. Very friendly staff. Reasonably close to the town centre. Lovely garden.

Not obvious how to get into the hotel car park! Breakfasts a bit boring.

Our room looked out onto the scruffy back of the hotel with a broken washing machine in full view!

This is a lovely, comfortable, quiet, and relaxing place to stay. It makes you happy to put your feet up for a while and enjoy the surrroundings. The hotel has a lovely secluded garden to sit in, with a good pool. You can walk from here up to the Castle and the Palacio da Pena (it is a steep walk but shady) and down to the Palacio Nacional.

It would be useful to provide a map on the website pinpointing exactly where the hotel is, as not easy to locate with standard mapping sites.

A lovely place, beautiful gardens, spacious comfortable rooms, an extremely friendly and informative welcome, all in an elegant old mansion which is a haven of peace compared to the hecric traffic-filled streets of Sintra.

Bedrooms a little dated but this is a small 2 star hotel after all. It had been built as the summer residence of a diamond merchant in 1880.

Faded elegance, but very comfortable. The room was large, the swimming pool inviting, with lounge chairs for relaxing. The breakfast was excellent.

A very friendly welcome from staff eager to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Our room was clean and comfortable - not a "boutique" style - the whole hotel has a sense of faded glory and charm. The gardens are its real attraction, as the name suggests, with luxuriant growth on several levels surrounding a very attractive swimming pool with views up to the hillsides overlooking Sintra and even the Castelo dos Mouros. The location is excellent - you can walk easily into the town centre and to Sao Pedro village; and the entrance to the climb to the Castelo and the Pena Palace is almost directly across the road. It was a nice relaxed place to stay as a couple, but was equally suitable for families with children. Whilst the hotel does not formally offer evening meals, we asked for a simple supper, which was provided very willingly and met our needs well. There's a terrace where you can sit, and eat your own food if you wish in the evening sun. Inside there are lots of games to play and books to read. (And a computer you can access the Internet on, if you really want to!) A good place to come back to after exploring all that Sintra has to offer.

Everything: Nice, lived-in feel building, beautiful gardens. I read the negative comments before booking and some of them are nit-picking. The service was excellent - my laundry was completed and returned to me in under five hours. Room service was quick and good value. The two ladies in charge were very helpful, particularly Isabelle (I hope I've remembered her name correctly). I'm always slightly concerned about praising a hotel because it means it will be more difficult for me to get a room next time, but the owners deserve it.

Nice gardens with pool, large rooms - hard to believe we were so close to towns.

an old established mansion.A little quirky and obviously an ongoing project for the owners. comfortable and grand rather than plush. The pool was excellent . The recommended restaurant is away from sintra but opens up a lovely village area which we would probably not otherwise have discovered. If you don't mind a little walking then with the aid of the excellent map provided you will find a truly lovely area - not all of which centres on the very busy Sintra town.
