Score from 1730 reviews Very good
Location of the hotel was beside the castle looking over the city, great views. There were a number of small bars nearby however for food you would need to go to main streets, a ten minute walk. Fine for a long weekend break.
If you are staying on the first floor, be warned it is loud and no view from the first room. The bed was creaky and very annoying. The staff would help you but were not overly friendly.
Good location. Helpfull staff. Bedroom was very nice size.
The hills in the location is something to consider.
Reception staff were very helpful. One went the extra mile to help
The shower was temperamental. Had a tendency to flood the bathroom
The staff was v friendly and helpful, the location couldn't have been better. Our room had a view across town towards the river. The 'living room' was upstairs and, unfortunately, due to my height, not really usable but it didn't matter, as the bedroom was quite large anyway. Small terrace to sit - or have a cigarette - compliments to the gardener! We didn't try breakfast but it looked delicious...
Perfect location, wouldn't stay anywhere else in Lisbon.
–Stunning views over the Alfama and Baixa towards the riverfront –Lively decor –Comfy beds and nice bathroom –Friendly staff, very accommodating of dietary requirements
–Not having complimentary tea+coffee-making facilities in the room (the facilities were there, at a charge) felt a bit stingy.
Very good location for exploring the old town on foot. Staff helpful. Room spacious.
Our room faced away from the ocean, so we did not have much of a view. Breakfast in the hotel was too expensive for what you get. Buying some fruit at the supermarket and coffee and toast at a cafe is better value for money.
Location is perfect! 5 minutes to castle in Alfama! Very private and large room!
The satellite tv does not work. The nice guy at the desk in the evenings tried but could not really make it work other than BBC world news. No big deal because you don't come to Lisbon to watch tv!
The staff was excellent, and helpful at all times. The place is beautiful and the location is great (just make sure to learn where the two city elevators are located to go down to the city center and major shops).
The bed in the double room was not too comfortable for me (very hard).
Fabulous location and views with very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Quirky decor
Very nice hotel (design, ambiance) and location. Few rooms. Historical center.
Sound insulation. Too much light comes in the room through the curtains
We stayed at Solar Dos Mouros for only one night and really enjoyed our stay. It was well located close to beautiful Alfama and we founds lots to see and do in the area. The room was very spacious and clean and the view from the balcony was amazing!
The room was a little bit expensive for what it offered.
Big, high quality room, friendly staff, good location
No wifi in room (or, for me, in lobby), TV didn't work in room, no kettle in room
Stayed in the 'Deluxe Suite with balcony', which turned out to be a spacious roof top terrace. The room is also spacious as is the bed. Nicely furnished too. But really, the view from the terrace is what really sets this place apart. In addition, the staff was very friendly and helpful (in particular Kyrill). All in all, we had a splendid stay here, which sadly lasted only a weekend.
I'm sure other people have pointed this out, but in case this is the first review you read: if walking up hills and stairs is a problem for you, this hotel is not for you. Walking up the hills can be made easier by taking two municipal elevators, but once in the hotel, you will have to climb another 5, plus a very narrow one to reach your hide-out on the top floor. Also, if you are over 1m80 the bathroom of the suite will be a challenge due to the tilted roof. These were no issue for us at all and we would gladly stay here again.
The hotel is located in the historical part of town. You can take Bus 737 (about $7 for a day pass on all transits, buses, subway, etc.). About a block from castle St. Jorge (tourist flick each morning up the hill) and many shops and small restaurants. Staff very helpful. We stayed in a suite, downstairs living and upstairs bedroom with a view of the ocean. Overall very pleasant
Breakfast is a hit or miss on the selection We started later than most and it was "picked over" by the time we came down. A minor thing given all of the positives.
Our room with the private terrace, best view of Lisbon. Room was uniquely designed, felt like we were staying in our own secret apartment. The location was close to everything but quiet at night. The staff spoke excellent English and were accommodating.

The visual design and furnishings in the hotel are absolutely great...if you like the modern/casual elegance thing. Its a great location right by the castle and the santa cruz neighborhood. the staff is very helpful. never ate breakfast there but it looked fine.
no elevator so if you have a lot of suitcases it can be a chore going up the stairs! then again the entire castelo and alfama district is like that.
