Location excellent, common areas were beautiful, tasting at the Wine academy was excellent.
Some deferred maintenance, hot water heater broke on our visit, carpeting on stairs and halls worn. Dinner was average, service was good.
Loved the beautiful view over the river and the atmosphere in the bar. Staff were excellent.
Facility was fine. Breakfast very good. Contrary to others dinner was good and not overpriced . LVB 79 was not as good.
Room did not have enough lighting but great view.
This was the best bed and best breakfast of our trip. The view from the room of the river and valley are wonderful. The bathroom is wall to wall Portuguese tiles, and the artwork in the room and throughout the hotel depicts the history of the region.
We needed a little more light in the room.
Location brilliant, staff helpful and kind. Lovely views of the Douro river and hillside. No hills to climb from hotel so very suitable for those with walking difficulties. Most attractive outside area for eating. Also good location for swimming pool.
Everything. We got upgraded to a suite. The decor was beautiful old world English elegance throughout the hotel. Rooms overlook a lovely garden beyond the river view from the balcony. Helpful attentive staff.
Bar and restaurant prices were ridiculously overpriced.
A Lovely Place ... !
Return back to Sweden...!
Pinhao is beautiful Hotel Building is stunning Rooms were great comfy beds
Staff were a bit dozy slow service
We really enjoyed the location on the river. Also really enjoyed the dinners. We had planned on trying a couple of local restaurants but the first night we had such a nice dinner that we ate there every night. Joaquim Cruz did a wonderful job at making us feel comfortable. We learned a lot about the local wines and had some great examples.
We love to go hiking. There is one trail, but would of loved it if there were more close to the hotel. Of course, that's not the hotel's fault.
The Douro views and the wines available. Central for the winery region, there are hundreds of wineries to visit close to the hotel town. Out standard double room was fairly big and comfortable.
There is not a lot to complain about. But points for improvement are: Although the hotel is fairly new (2004 I think) it could already do with a bit of repainting here and there. More services and activities could be provided as part of the hotel: wine tastings, winery visits, boat trips. Breakfast is good but not vast.
Nice view of the river, large room with a balcony, excellent food and cosy bar. Really relaxing.
As travelling by boat from Porto, I miss any possibility to participate in organised group tours in the environment.
We tried on several occasions to get a plug for our bath, but failed every time, so could only take a shower. This disappointed us in an otherwise most enjoyable stay.
lovely room facing the river, fabulous breakfast, staff ready to help with activities
feels a bit formal
This is the best overall hotel at which we ever have stayed, and we've been lucky enough to have enjoyed some pretty swanky places over the years. One of us sustained a serious personal injury in Pinhao (not the hotel's fault), and we were blown away by their support. They allowed us to extend our stay, in a more suitable (post-accident), less expensive room, provided extra help way beyond anything that we could have imagined, and even sent an English-fluent staff member with us to the regional hospital.
Nothing is wrong here. Expensive as Portugese lodgings go, but worth every penny. We would return in a heartbeat.
Location, spectacular view from room, very comfortable, lovely pool, excellent and helpful staff, good breakfast on beautiful terrace
Room too dark (apparently the result of a misguided ecological policy). Mediocre and overpriced dinner
The views here are amazing. The hotel has retained its history but has been brought up to a standard you expect for the money. The bed was incredible - so comfy. Breakfast was delicious taken on the terrace looking over the valley. Wonderful
Staff a bit scarce for a drink by the pool. Food and drink overpriced so didn't have evening dinner there.
Everything, the best place we stayed in Portugal
Views Soft comfortable bed Friendly staff Upgraded to a suite
Menu expensive and set meal didn't change day to day
Amazing hotel. Amazing sights. Good breakfast. Pure lush.
The restaurant staff wasn't very welcoming... One might be treated with coldness if young and native.
Staff are very helpful and speak several languages. Food was good by Portuguese standards, but pricey and, as usual, over-smoked or salted. Beautiful setting and ideal location for boat trips on the Duoro.
Wonderful situation overlooking Douro river. Easy access and delightful, perfectly kept grounds. Grand. heavily furnished public rooms. Serving staff delightful and hard working. All the outward appearance of opulent luxury!
Really dreadful food and very expensive. We ate dinner in the hotel on our first evening. It was truly meagre, poorly made and shoddily presented on the plate. Thereafter we went out nearby and ate very very well and cheaply..what a shame. Maintenance needs to be better..cracked and broken tiles in many places in our bathroom and in the swimming pool changing rooms..our room had a big hole poked into the ceiling near the air conditioning! Front of house staff Ok but very cold and unconnected..the breakfast is served a long and unlikely walk away from the main hotel!!
The Vintage House has a great location right on the Douro River. The rooms are the most comfortable we have ever been in with views of the Douro River and Valley. Fabulous food and trips on the river and grape harvesting/treading arranged by the hotel staff. Douro heaven!
Everything was fantastic
Location and facilities Staff was very caring
Food was a bit expensive.
Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Staff very courteous and helpful.
Very nice restaurant. Breakfast buffet outstanding. Evening meals good but overly expensive for the service and quality.
