The breakfast is awesome -- a lot of varities of fruit, pastries, meat,
cheese and everything else.
The location is ok - not exactly downtown, but a short (5 minutes) walk from Piata Mare. It is ideal is you want to avoid the noise and fuss of downtown, but still enjoy the benefits of the city center.
Also, the upper-floor rooms have a stunning view over the whole city. We stayed at the 12th floor, but anything from 7 upwards should be amazing, too.
We booked the room months in advance (in August for December) on
booking.com - the "pay when you arrive" option. However, the
hotel staff phoned at the beginning of December to ask for the money in
advance. Their motivation: we have a lot of requests for this period
since it's the NewYear's Eve (go figure!) and we need you to
confirm by paying. That was completely unprofessional and, even though I
told them that I was unhappy and disappointed, they told me there is no
other way. It was also too late for us to find something decent, so we
The hotel ventilation is a nightmare: during our stay, the temperature outside was -21 degrees Celsius and the thermostat inside doesn't go above 23 -- in theory, because we never really saw it go above 22. But I guess we were lucky, because we heard other guests complain that they were greeted by snow on the window ledge when they arrived. Also, they have the cheap kind of ventilation system, so the air was incredibly dry and uncomfortable.
For the first 2 nights, the heater in the bathroom didn't work at all, so taking a shower was quite an interesting experience. They fixed it on the third day.
Bottom line: if you like to have control over the atmosphere in the room, this is NOT a hotel for you. The situation doesn't improve in the summer either, the thermostat still won't go below 21 degrees Celsius.
All in all, I found that Ramada does not offer a good value for money. There are countless better hotels in Sibiu, such as Imparatul Romanilor (the oldest hotel in Romania).
