Not much. Breakfast was good. Access to the other hotel (Peter 1) which had free Wi-Fi, pool and spa area and restaurant. First impression was awful. I believe that the descriptors of the hotel in travel books and Booking.com were not exactly right. It is a grim hotel with very little extras for the money. The hotel was so hot at night as the heat was pouring out of the radiators. I had to open the window just to stay remotely comfortable. Told the desk but they did not do anything about it. The decor of the room is awful. Rickety furniture, dipping bed, terrible drapes and bed covers. I compare this to the wonderful hotel we stayed in at St. Petersburg--Rossi, which was everything the Budapest was not and 1/2 the price. Heard gun shots one night, scary.

The Budapest Hotel is just 3 blocks from the Bolshoi Theatre and a short walk from the Kremlin and other tourist sights. It has a very professional staff and the decor is classic and definitively Russian. Though a business hotel it made us feel right at home as tourists. Some small things, more to do with the area around the hotel, than the hotel itself. The hotel is next to a men's club which though not intrusive or loud can be a detractor for families... The district is the banking and luxury shopping heart of the city and can be heavily overpriced for the budget traveller, but gems such as Yolki Polki and some of the cafès near Lyubyanka are supprisingly warm and reasonable. The hotel itself Perhaps needs a warmer, more homely social area in the hotel to attract a wider audience, not just business.

This is a decent and reasonably priced hotel, extremely well located in the center of Moscow. There is a certain cosiness about it in the sense that it is a relatively small hotel, not a big machine. The breakfast room is depressing. I stayed on a floor which had not been renovated, it was dull. Much could be done to give allure to this place. They need an interior designer.

It is super-value for money. The Marriott is around the corner and costs twice as much per night. The Budapest is not 5 star, but dignified, great breakfast, clean, and the location is amazing (three blocks from the Bolshoi). My only complaint is that they charge for internet -- $30 for 24 hours. It's just silly these days, and will disappoint business travellers, but they will pay (as I did) for the balance of other virtues. As mentioned above, paying for internet. I stay at less expensive hotels, and the internet is free.

It is at the center of the city and easy reach to touristic places as well. The building has a very old look, but more important issue is the carpets did not look clean.

Budapest Hotel is in an excellent location and within easy walking distance of the Kremlin and other tourist attractions. The decor lends an authentic Russian feel, breakfast is good and we enjoyed our two days there.

Good selection at breakfast. Many excellent restaurants close by. We got phone call at 1.15am from "escort"... When raised it with hotel staff next day they said they had no control over incoming calls as there was a direct line into the room. If not planning on making or receiving calls, other travellers should tell hotel to diosconnect direct line. Also air conditioning was very feeble....

The hotel staff were excellent and helpful, many spoke English quite well which very helpful. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, with a wide selection of hot and cold food! The only issues were (a) the bed was rather hard and the springs were occasionally pronounced and (b) the WiFI was neither encrypted nor free.

Central position, good traditional atmosphere, and helpful staff. I was able to check in very early (at 6am), without any problems or extra charges. Rooms are rather old-fashioned and lack of curtain in the bathroom means you have to hope people in nearby buildings are not looking out of their windows.

Location is great - just 5 min walking from Bolshoj Theater, in the City center. Breakfast had a good selection of different types of food. Room is small but OK, however it misses several features that should be standard in such hotel. There was no countertop and a very little shelf in the bathroom, no space to put your staff, I had to keep it all on the floor. There is no iron in the room - you have to order ironing whis is both expensive and requires planning well ahead. They said that it will take 1-2 hours to have the dress ironed in the morning. No coffee maker - if you want coffee or tea after breakfast hours you have to pay extra. Looks like they are trying to make you to pay extra for everything (on the top of a ~$300/night for a small room!!

Location was right downtown and the breakfast was good I think the hotel was overpriced for the comfort of the room! Furniture was outdated and uncomfortable. Small things missing like tissue in the washroom, lack of towel racks and shelving. In general, a few small things could help in the comfort level guests.

“The hotel is beautifully restored and is excellently located behind the Bolshoi Theater and a five minute walk from the Kremlin. The rooms are moderately large and very comfortable, although a little minimalist in decor. Great breakfasts and a wonderful special fish dinner. Would recommend highly.” Joel, Chevy Chase, Md |
