One of the two closets places to stay to the irkutsk pass train
station. You can walk here from the station in 10-15 minutes. Head over
the road from the station and up the obvious staircase, take care, the
steps aren't well maintained. Then wend your way through a back

Contrary to Google maps, you'll want to turn right onto RUMANYENTSEV not left, and the hotel is in the newer block on the left. The sign, DOBRY KOT - with a cat on it is easy to spot.
Great English speaking reception. Wifi was awful the night we arrive, but great in the morning. Russia Today (English speaking) channel on the TV if you're missing the news at all.
Our room shared a bathroom with one other room. Good, decent sized rooms, a proper large double bed (probably a kingsize), desk, chair, two bedsid tables and a wardrobe. The rain on the tin roof outside was a distraction that our Trans-Siberian weariness overcame quickly.
GREAT GREAT shower, and clean bathroom.
Super, well equipped (stove top, microwave, several tables and chairs) kitchen.
There's also apparently a laundry, which we didn't use, but a fab relief from the train, and great location, with good facilities.
Stayed a second night after the CircumBaikal.. Triple room with private bath, again, all great, apart from spotty Internet.
