Location - close walk to Chinatown Careful - In real life the room was different. Old Carpet Smell and stained towels. We booked this hotel after seeing it had reasonable reviews (about 7/10) whilst offering a good price (sgd $160/night av). The reality was quite different - the decor in the room was very used with chips and marks everywhere. The rooms are dark with old lighting feel (due to location of hotel in Shophouse street), the carpets had spot stains and an 'old carpet' odour in the room and throughout the corridoors. We noted some of the towells had some stains on them too. The foyer entrace did have a good grand victorian feel - it was only once you went upstairs into the actual hotel that the truth hit hard. I wouldn't stay here again unless this hotel underwent a major renovation to replaced absolutely everything in each room.

Great location, close to many amenities and one of the largest tourist attractions in Singapore, Chinatown! Proximity however, did not infringe on the quiet and historical aspect of the street the hotel is located on. Very comfortable boutique hotel. A little dated however, the cleanliness and friendly and helpful staff more than make it a place worth staying in. Given that we are in such a connected world, not having easy and free access to internet facilities is definitely a drawback.

We liked the peacefulness with the background of classical music and the decor. It was wonderful especially the reception area and dining room. We liked that it was reminiscent of the colonial days and the prints and pictures on the wall were just lovely. Also the food was wonderful. We liked the discreet service and the location in a more recently developed boutique area. The air conditioning - as the fan was very fierce and could not be turned down. The bathroom of the second room we were in had a very narrow old bath which was difficult to manoevre when showering. The bars across the road were noisy on some nights. The lack of ability to do ones own laundry, rahter than pay for it.

Nice breakfast although no choises of cheese but somehow the cooing was great and service is excelent Rate is higher for the value of the room(SGD200+10%+7%)... Room is so old and corridor is smelly but for me I donot care as long as my bed is clean.. Bed was somehow.short . sometimes I feel the tip of my feet is hanging(I am 174cm) Chargable internet in the room is so expensive (254 per day). I was better off buying M1 SGD18 for three days unlimited access.. I connect through my mobile and into my PC.. however, mobile recepton inthe room was not so great so the mobile link was bad also.

Part of why our trip to Singapore was so pleasant and memorable was Berjaya Singapore Hotel. It's in a great location--close to Chinatown, Maxwell Road hawker centre, Tanjong Pagar Station, Red Dot Design Museum--so we were never far from anything (plus, there's a 7-11 across the street). We fell in love with the old world charm of the hotel--the design was professional, but warm, the staff friendly and accommodating. They provide you with everything you need, and more. Rooms are clean, bed's comfortable. Worth the price we paid.

Excellent friendly staff. Quiet, yet connected location near Chinatown. Charming building. Reasonably sized room for Singapore. No breakfast offering within hotel. Breakfast in the partner restaurant quite expensive. However, there's plenty of other ways in Singapore.

Friendly staff, great location, clean and comfy rooms, very close to transportation. Very nice colonial building. A good place to stay for a short visit. As it is apparently typical of this part of the world, the high price inexplicably does not include breakfast nor internet connection. Late checkout also too expensive.

Location was ok. There was blood on the bed sheet, quit and pillow cover. Very very disgusting. Another thing is that when I tried to request for check out at one o'clock, the staff replied very coldly that " it's not possible" even did not say "sorry" . This is the worst four star hotel I have ever lived.

Enjoyed the old world charm and friendly, helpful staff. We were given a (very) quiet room, as requested. Great location for exploring Chinatown and close to MRT stations. Enjoyed the free newspaper outside our room every morning! Also the lovely old prints in the room and lining the corridors.
