눉The rooms generally felt sticky and ill-conceived. Even with the AC fan on high, and the temperature set to 68F, the carpets felt especially gross, but clothes in the closet were damp.
The light switches for the night stand lights were around the corner and down the hall. The lamps themselves had no switches, so you need to get out of bed to turn off the light. Genius for a luxury hotel. Also, there are three switches for the bathroom, two inside and one outside (nit-picky, but with everything else, it's just confusing).
The bathrooms are poorly configured with two small hooks to hang towels. There's a hanging shelf that is built 1 foot above the toilet that could never be used to hang towels. Also, the shower has a tiny shelf for a travel soap dish and the courtesy shampoos. No place to hang a face cloth, or place a razor or something larger like a can of shaving cream.
The casino should just be removed from the property. The hotel is so far away, no one is coming from off-property to gamble. So there's only ever one blackjack table open, and it's usually booked up. If I saw 15 people in the casino, it was one night when a large group showed up to stay int he hotel.
The food here is the biggest disappointment. There are three restaurants, one "casual dining", one higher end, and one beach bar. Amazingly though, no one could get us chicken fingers and fries for the kids, and we had to go back to our room and wait 45 mins for room service.
The buffet breakfast is super expensive for a simple selection of cereals, bacon, sausages, potatoes and an omelet station. We're also pretty sure my youngest daughter got physically ill from the egg whites the one and only time we ate there.
The high-end restaurant was so expensive as it question why even bother. You could get a taxi to Grand Case, Orient Beach, or Simpson Bay and still get a cheaper (and probably tastier) meal.
The property itself is showing signs of age.
눇The staff is incredibly courteous, helpful and pleasant. They were able to answer every question we had, and catered to every request (which wasn't much, but still nice to feel attended to).
The pool is pretty, but you're on SXM for the beaches, which Dawn Beach is way too rough for wading or swimming.
