The food at the restaurant was too expensive and not really good.
Was a particular bungalow with a good atmosphere close to the beach.
No coffee making facilities in the room. Only 3 beach umbrellas and some of the beach chairs were broken.
The management and staff was very friendly and helpful. The beach was great, food was great and the room was really clean.
drainage problem with toilets on site
location and sea good for swimming
Water-pressure is very weak. And also internet-connection. A fan on the veranda would be nice.
Very stylish bungalow. Aircon works fine and you can choose a silent mode. Restaurant and bar directly on the beach. And in front of the beach, you couldn't imagine, there's the sea. Less and relaxed people every type of age. You can get a meal directly from an small fishingboat. Or you can also go out to the mainstreet, two minutes walk, on the right hand side, there is a local restaurant with cheap and delicious thai food. There is also a family-mart and seven-eleven to buy everything for the day, and night. Nightlife isn't present nearby.
Friendly staff, delicious food, nice and clean bungalows, beautiful spot.
Wifi in rooms does not work well.
Great beach, helping staff.
only cold water in the shower, clogged toilet, towel bar ripped out of the wall, very small and humid room with lots of mosquitoes, some of the staff very unpleasant, noise on the beach from works next door
Thought this was a bit overpriced compared to other places we stayed and the previous guests underpants were still on the bathroom floor.
The staff in the rustic style restaurant were really friendly and the food was good. It was a relaxed place to eat and drink right on the beach. We had a bungalow with interesting decor but quite basic. The room was cleaned daily
Hot water went out a couple of times, but was quickly fixed by staff.
Great pizzas, helpful staff, loved location on the beach.
Beautiful facility well kept clean and close to the beach
hard to find from main street even for the taxi driver. cactus sign w/o lights at night at the end of a sandy driveway
nice huts directly at the beach, away from the hectic of fishermans village. its a 20 min walk aling the beach. dont take taxi they rip you off for the short ride up to 300 baht. food nice, boss is from france, mostly german/french guests. pizza yummy!
Beds were hard, cold showers (pretty common)
Restaurant had good food, in walking distance to Fishermans market, quiet area, good price for what you get.
Big bay but small beach with quite big sand and the sea is not really nice, as in all Koh Samui.
I had really good time during my stay. The room are really particular and the garden between the bungalows is nice kept. Good food, nice staff and directly on the sea. I recommend this hotel and if I'll be back in Samui I'd stay there for sure.
- Our bungalow STANK. We've stayed in many budget hostels/bungalows, many have a noticeable whiff of something when you first walk in to the room but you get used to after a minute and it's a 'you get what you pay for' kind of deal. That is not what I'm talking about here, I mean it REALLY STANK. Like an open sewer. That's barely an exaggeration. I woke up in the middle of the night the first night we were there and felt sick from the smell. The manager didn't seem to care - he just told us to keep the windows open. This is NOT a viable solution. Never mind the massive compromise in privacy and security that would entail, but on our last night there there was a SNAKE making its way into our room! - Terrible water pressure and cold water only. Every other place we've stayed that only had cold water stated so in their advertising. Kind of sneaky to just not to mention it, IMO. - We made it clear we were unhappy with our room on the first day and asked to change rooms - not possible, booked out (OK). So we asked to be refunded for the remaining nights so we could go somewhere else - manager wouldn't even consider it. He didn't seem to give a shit about his guests' comfort or the standard of his accommodation. Just in it for the money. Even without a refund we left early, couldn't stand it a day longer. - one of the staff at the restaurant (working with food!) had a "pet" cockroach or giant bug on his shoulder one night while he was working, which he petted from time to time. - Value for money is poor. immediately before coming to Cactus we were staying at a more popular beach on Koh Samui in a hotel that was also right on the beach, and for the same price we got a bigger, cleaner room with a fridge, working TV, hot water and free water daily (Rich Resort in Lamai - very good). Overall worst place we've ever stayed and would not recommend it to anyone with a sense of smell.
- Location right on the beach - Mattress was comfortable
I personally prefer Bottle Beach (only) on Koh Phagnan which is half the cost of a holiday on Samui, however I would very much recommend Cactus Bungalows and go again myself if, as this time, I could not get to Phagnan due to ferry cancellations resulting from poor weather.
Great stay, Jeff the manager very attentive, nice international base of regular clientele provide an informal pleasant atmosphere, food excellent, particularly nice contintental style breakfast and a pizza oven plus very inexpensive Thai food options, location ideal for a relaxing break which you can easily liven up with short taxi or motorbike ride (which can be hired for 200 Baht a day from 2 minutes walk away) to BoPhut Fishing Village (or Chaweng, which is further) for a change of scene.
The mouldy ceiling which made the room smell very musty. There was an extractor fan but it was very noisy so I had to wear earplugs at night. Be a great place if they could sort out the damp problems in the room.
Awesome atmosphere. On the beach restaurant with some of the best food we have had. Spacious rooms with nice artwork on the walls.
The menu prices were a little high. 180 baht for a bowl of muesli and yogurt. A pretty staple item on most menu's. Eat at the giant restaurant up on the road near 7/11. Awesome food and prices
Everything was really good. Had one of the smaller fan rooms for 500 baht...all we needed and were very pleased. Location was perfect. Nice atmosphere. French owner was nice.
The staff mainly from Burmar who were lovely but I missed thai chatter.Breakfast menu became boring & expensive.
The beach the rooms very cute with their themes.fan was all you needed.Bed for me too hard,so up early.best time of day too.
Bungalows are located just in front off a wonderful beach in a quite area. But if you need a bit of nightlife no worries because fisherman's town is 10 min by walk you can find there bars, restaurants, shopping street,... Jeff, the owner, is awesome, he is very friendly and knows everything about Samui. Just ask him. The two staff girl are so friendly as well. Whole day smiling. Bungalows are very good decorated and you do not need more than they are provided. Restaurant placed there is fantastic. The best Pad Thai I tried ever.
WiFi didn't work most of the time, even at the bar. Jet Skies rental place right in front of the hotel, so you have to go swimming away from the front unless you like inhaling fumes. Electronic ambience music at the bar wasn't to our taste - it wasn't loud though.
Right on the beach. Place (bungalows and restaurant) looks great - all cabins are sheltered by trees which makes the rooms much more comfortable with the heat. Very clean. I don't feel the need for room service in a 2 day stay, but it certainly is a pro for some, so I'll add that. Excellent value for money!
Really hard to find especially as flights get in at night. Even though booked, I had to find someone to give me key for room only to find the next morning termites had reduced the main area to match wood the buildings need some tlc to bring the back up to what they deserve. Fantastic venue spoilt by neglect.
The room smelt fousty,no air con, restaurant had fallen down,no hot water the list goes on.Very disapointing
Close to the beach
Flacky wifi and internet (this was a problem all over Thailand). The ventilation system of the bungalow was a bit loud so to get a good night sleep we had to turn it off at the electric switchboard. But the main problem, that ruined a little bit the whole experience was the simple fact that the water is not crystalline at all, in fact at waist deep you can't even see your own feet... of course this is not a problem with Cactus Bungalows but that exists all over Samui :( We had a great time, but perhaps i wouldn't come back because of this, i really enjoy my ocean baths as swims and its just impossible.
Living on the beach, about 20m from the water feels amazing. To sleep earing the waves. The food in the restaurant. Lots if channels in TV. Overall great value for money.
The bungalows are on the small side (we stayed in the standard bungalow with a/c) and I wish there was space to unpack clothes and such. That being said, it was a great value and I strongly encourage those who want a quieter relaxed place to stay to check it out!
We stayed at the Cactus Bungalow for 4 nights and loved it. It has a very relaxed chill atmosphere and has beautiful views, not to mention it's on the beach. The restaurant on site is well priced and very very yummy. I would definitely recommend it and would love to return.
Staff wasn't friendly or welcoming at all. It's ok but neighbor hotels on both sides were bit better.
Nice and quiet. Close to Fisherman's Village.
