Located in the old city area of Chiang Mai, Viang Thapae Resort offers an outdoor pool. It is just a 5-minute walk from the Sunday Market at Thapae Gate.

The hotel is smaller than in the picture. But it has a warm cozy feeling. The setting, the garden, and location right on the river makes it really charming.
Bedrm is quite small. BF is cold and has few choices. The coffee machine is out of order.
Location was nice and quiet. Like an oasis after the hussle of the city. Breakfast was good. Staff friendly and attentive! Room was extremely spacious with the view over the pool and river from the balcony superb!!
Although I do like a firm bed, these beds were almost "hard"! Apart from that I was very happy for the eight days I stayed at the Mantra!
Upgraded to family room as they didn't have two single beds as requested in the room we booked. Large room with large balcony was great.
Ants in the room on the headboard which landed up in my sister's drink. Breakfast was poor. Cooked food was not kept hot and was not covered against flies. Just had toast and some fruit.
Nice authentic hotel with a beautiful view on the river Ping. Accomodation is nice and clean.
Difficult to communicate with the staff due to language barrier. Breakfast could be served at the river in the morning, instead of the lobby area.
Location, Styling,Great Pool
Lousy breakfast, room had funny smell, hard beds, found a cockroach in the room, loads of mosquitoes.
- great room - breakfast - really great complex
- poor english from Some of the staff - restaurant was closed a lot during our stay - kind of far from the city
The location: the river runs past the hotel gardens, the view from our room was exceptional, the rooms were quite large and had a nice balcony. A nice peaceful hotel, a little way out of the hustle of the city, but close enough to get to without a problem. We were quite lucky to get a room facing the river. The snackbar serves some nice food.
Some of the staff seemed unfriendly, lazy and unhelpful; not all though. Management needs to address this. The service was generally fair to poor. Breakfast was decent but very basic.
The location of the hotel is a little out of the City - just what we wanted. Relaxing evenings overlooking the river, food from the pool/river bar is good and a reasonable price. We had 2 rooms facing the river, they were large with balconies and full bathrooms. Some rooms at the front of the hotel would probably have some road noise (not busy) and lack the views. Hotel provides transport to City morning and evening.
Out of town location is a bonus until you need to return. Its not far but some of the taxis don't want to leave the city - assume they can't guarantee a fare back. Always abit of haggling to get back. In contrast to the good evening meals from the outside bar / kitchen - the breakfasts were consistently poor. Stale, dull, cold (cooked) food - they would cook eggs fresh but rest was poor - gave up asking for fresh items and just had scrambled eggs. Some staff were good - friendly, helpful and obviously hard working. A minority of the staff though were the complete opposite - ignoring requests, seemingly spending most of their day on their phones, hanging around the bar in the evening.
Nice location at the riverside but only rooms on riverside are quiet. Our room was near a very busy street and I would not recommend it. Fortunately we stayed only 1 night. Restaurant was closed because of sunday.
All staff are great service mind.
Nice, quiet place and conducive to meditative repose. Very friendly staff, with good will of each moment that sometimes compensates for the lack of professionalism. A "basic" food (breakfast a bit poor) but the hotel and its staff are making real benefit to spend several days in a charming place. Surely the place will improve as everyone seem very concern by quality and kindness
Very limited in english comprehension and spoken. Breakfast could improve
Everything, the environment, the ping river behind, the room, the staff, food, feelings.convenient, design of the resort.A very good experience and positive! Best place to stay and I will surely stay there again! Staff are very friendly and beautiful resort!
Loved the infinity swimming pool. Bedrooms were a great size and beds were so comfy for a good nights sleep. Breakfast buffet was amazing!!! We even ate Pad Thai for breakfast!!
Really couldn't complain about anything.
Tranquil location just a short drive away from the bustling town of Chiang Mai. Staff all very friendly and attentive.
Restaurant was a bit basic but didn't need much more as Chiang Mai has so much to offer.
One of the best places I have stayed in Thailand. A comfortable and environmentally friendly place :) would definitely recommend during a stay in Chiang Mai
The distance from the city centre
We like the enviroment of the hotel very much, quite peaceful and natural.
Didn't inform us when the email address couldn't be used.
Quiet, good ambiance; it's right on the bank of the river. My favourite low key hotel stay in Chiangmai. Nice, clean room with big (firm) bed and a balcony. Good but not extensive breakfast buffet for the price (bacon and real fruit juices, where some other budget hotels often go cheap on these).
A little far from town if you don't have a car (but no problem for me). Parking is outside the property and is under a vine covered car port, which can leave bunch of leaves and mucky stuff on the car, especially after rain. Breakfast area is basically the lobby, which can fill up quickly during peak time; it would have been really nice if it's on the bank of the river instead (like the Chedi Hotel).
Right outside the city, very calm and quiet, beautiful view and greenery, staff very friendly
the food at the hotel, with the exception of breakfast, was not that good.
The resort is so beautiful and peaceful. The facilities and staff were excellent. We never felt like something was missing, the staff were very approachable and tried hard to make our stay as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
We didn't know how far away the resort was from the city (about 20mins TUK TUK ride or $3AUD each way) which made it a bit difficult to do some activities. However, if you want somewhere peaceful and out of the way this is the place for you.
I didn't like how it smells in bedroom.
Peaceful location, trained and highly competent staff, sense that the hotel is expertly managed.
Room service was terrible. This hotel nearly miss to clean my room twice.
The hotel is in a lovely location. Gorgeous views and great staff. Very helpful. Great shower, towels replaced daily. Shuttle service into the town twice a day. Great breakfast selection. Tours are easily arranged and prices are fair
The beds were too hard. Should have been a double, they just pushed two singles together lol. Lighting on balcony too dim so couldn't read outside. Lighting indoors too dim so the lights are always on. Thin walls. Unfortunately had to ask my neighbours to put their phones on silent as I could hear the tones.
lush garden, tranquil, comfortable, good idea to have shuttle to city with perfect timing.
Actually, it doesn't mean i don't like. It is acceptable but would like hotel to develop. Food taste is so so not good quality of swimming pool water, too much choline wrong information from the hotel for the airport taxi at the airport, it is Bht.200.- not 180.-
Nice staff Nice garden & pool Quiet area vs downtown
