We had to move 2 times (each time after we unpacked): aircon didnt work appropriately each time (with +40 outside). 2nd time noone even appologised and we had to move all stuff ourselves. Even then aircon was so so, toilet wabbly, but we couldnt face another move!
Staff barely speaks English (thus tries not to speak at all!), is not very well informed about places to see in town, couldnt help with luggage (didnt understand we have suitcases:), didnt smile once or made us feel welcome. It was like crashing into rich person's home uninvited!! Most of the time there was noone to ask for help (we met australian guy day 1 who seemed to be working there and all the info we got was from him). Forget the fact that we were on our honeymoon; noone c
ould have possibly cared even when we did let them know in advance!
There is no bar, only an area (no aircon) to sit with few armchairs. All (including restaurant) shuts before 10pm. Breakfast is only ordered from the menu and that took numerous attempts as there either was no staff or they couldnt understand :)
Location not great: far from night market, river bars and restaurants and boutique shops.
I am surprised the hotel has 5* and so many awards and such high rates. The evaluators have probably not stayed there, rather rated it by looks. And i haven't said such a thing on booking.com since my stay at a 5* hotel in Russia years ago.
If the owners invested more in addition to just architecture and design, it could be alovy place, but...
Architecturally it is such a lovely place with beautiful furniture, antiques, all simetrical, green and quiet. But considering how much money was spent to have this place look the way it does (and cost!) it is hard to believe everything else is left behind...
We appreciated that hotel driver could communicate to us in English and take us around (even if it was £40 for 3hrs)!
