Staying at The Chai Orchid was a wonderful experience. Total serenity. Fill your days with trekking, river rafting or bathing the gentle giants of the forest in the river. Bliss out will a book and take in the beautiful surrounds.

Chai Lai Orchid allows you to completely unwind. Listen to the sounds of the river and watch the fireflies at night. Greet your elephant friends every day and get many kisses from the delightful and cheeky 4yo Doung Dee! Not to mention dogs, cats and kittens who will lavish you will love. The peace and tranquility here will draw you in, spend your days exploring this beautiful part of thailand or simply choose to just be. Wander up the road and eat from the street stalls whilst interacting with the locals with smiles. Truly a slice of heaven

    What's not to love?

The site is beautiful, the staff very friendly and helpful! Right next to a river and ri get next to the elephant camp!

It is quite far from any activities other than hiking, elephant rides and bamboo rafting so for any other activities you will have to do at least 1 hour taxi ride.

Chai Lai Orchid is a true gem. The staff is amazing, the facilities are wonderful, and everyone was so friendly! It's the kind of place you immediately feel at home, and the staff makes you feel like part of the family (including the wonderful elephants!). I could not recommend this place more, and look forward to returning someday as both a guest and a volunteer. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This place is located next to a river which gets really busy, there's also a food market that we bought an amazing pad thai from and you can eat this on the rafts on the river. The Mahouts were pretty friendly and clearly have good relationships with their elephants! Elephants walk past your room all the time? And a baby elephant was born whilst we were there - so cute! There's a little girl who helps out here who is adorable and so lovely!! Overall it was a good experience to have!

Staff seemed really pushy about things to do with the elephants and we were harassed about activities etc, although it's nice to be informed about what you can do, you also need time to decide what you want to do. The food comes out of the restaurant sporadically and sometimes cold. The waitresses don't speak English and don't even try to communicate! When we first arrived our bathroom was full of ants, we asked for them to remove them, and when we got back to our room they had killed them and they were just all over the floor, with loads more ants still alive behind the mirror and coat hanger, we then cleaned it All up ourselves to get it done!

The suspension bridge entrance, river, bungalows and elephants walking by create a dramatic and unique place to stay. The campfire and cafe create the perfect atmosphere for making new friends and relaxing in nature. The owner is very present and helpful in planning activities. And the food is amazing!

If you travel here during the winter months, prepare for the very very cold nights (and showers!). Some extra blankets or even space heaters for comfort would have been appreciated (though the campfire helps). Also, this place is in the country - about an hour from Chiang Mai. If you plan to stay in one place to relax for a few days, this is it. If you like exploring or sight-seeing, it's a bit far from the action.

the environment, the air are all good! as peace and quiet as a paradise. I like the atmosphere here. the manager alexa and all staffs are very friendly. make me feel being at home. the food are also delicious.

The hot water supply via water heater is not hot enough. It is impossible to take a hot shower longer than 2 minutes.

Alexia made us welcome and took us immediately to meet the elephants. She and her staff were more than willing to tailor all experiences to meet our needs. Beautiful and tranquil rooms and grounds. Good food and activities.

    We liked all of it.

Alexa and her staff were awesome - chilled and welcoming. We felt really at home. There's plenty to do in the area - it's great if you have your own transport, but if not, Alexa can set up pretty much anything for you in terms of sightseeing and tours. The elephants are beautiful, as are the puppies who live at the hotel as well. Highly recommend!

If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The river frogs are really vocal for much of the night!

Love the nature environment. Had elephant rides (sat on it's neck, not chair) and it's a great great experience! Clean bed. Overall stay is great!

the shower has no hot water and it's freezing. :(

The setting is beautiful and staying so close to the elephants is pretty magical. The bungalows are really nice and the beds are so comfy. We booked the Mountain experience, and aspects of this - the elephant ride and bathing, and the trek up to the waterfall - were brilliant (although it was very overpriced). We also booked a gourmet cooking lesson through here which was amazing.

I understand that the staff are all from the local hill tribes and are being trained up here, so expect service to be a bit haphazard. We found the general organisation to be completely chaotic, particularly with our day long experience. Although parts of this day were brilliant, for the price you expect to be really well looked after and a whole chunk of the "itinerary" never materialised - we had to ask to do things the next day. The food was quite expensive and most of the dishes we ordered were pretty poor, and the service was very slow - two nights running our curry and rice arrived more than 20 minutes apart.

    Organized excursions were exciting.

really poor room cleaning and very very wet sheets and pillows (but we went there in the rainy season) expensive food despite of the really cheap price of the rooms shared bathroom not well mentioned while booking.
