The location was absolutely stunning. The bungalows were mere metres away from a glorious beach. Swimming was sublime. You could swim for a few metres and find yourself on top of all manner of coral and tropical fish. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable and to assist our every need. We thoroughly enjoyed riding the bikes around the island and immersing ourselves, as best we could, in local culture. A trip to the local Methodist Church on Sunday was certainly a highlight. Diving undertaken by Darren from Matafonua was very well done and highly enjoyable. We had a very relaxing trip and would readily recommend the resort to those wishing to experience the unadulterated and untouched pacific in all its glory.
The variety of food available was somewhat limited, particularly for lunch and breakfast. Also, the food was somewhat expensive. Whether this stemmed from the short supply of food to Ha'Apai or from the fact that there is little, if any, competition in respect to dining options on the island is unclear.
Sunshine, turquoise sea, a place of beauty and perfect peace. While we were there Susie and Martyn managed with charm and efficiency. All the staff were friendly and helpful with Peta, in particular, being a joy to meet.
Exclusive in that we had little contact with Tongan locals. There was wonderful fish and fruit provided but on the whole the meals provided were disappointing. If you are impressed by the drip and smear school of presentation you might be happy but if you look for generosity and sheer joy then there is little to be found.
Great place nearby Tonga Main Island. Short flight by RealTonga. No problem. Super service by Sandy Beach Staff. All on my days was swimming and relaxing. And on sunday Tonga churching. Very clean beach and sandy strands. Wonderful rooms. Just paradise. Tonga. Ha`apai. Thank You so much. Andreas
The location is amazing, my entire family had a relaxing holiday in a place that is simply beautiful. We enjoyed the staff, the breakfasts and the hospitality of the owners, who couldn't do enough to help.
The first dinner was average but with the arrival of a young French Cook the evening meal improved much to the delight of everyone. The desserts are fabulous!
The setting is idyllic with picture-postcard turquoise sea, right on the soft sand beach, all-tide swimming, and very good snorkelling just off the beach. The resort is very peaceful, quiet and feels very 'away from it all'. There are kayaks and bikes available if you want to explore further afield, but otherwise it's just a perfect place for relaxing and doing nothing much but laze around, swim, read and snorkel. It's a family run business, and the owners and staff are very attentive and helpful. If you are interested in learning more about life in Tonga (and especially Ha'apai) then the owners have many stories to tell of their experiences, and of their commitment to the place and the people. Other reviews have mentioned the 20 min or so trip from the airport as a downside, but we saw it as a plus as it added to the feeling of remoteness (and anyway the owners pick you up, so it's hardly a problem). The bungalows are spaced well apart, almost right on the beach, and very comfortable and well maintained.
Management was very friendly and concerned with guest's comfort. Good location. Well above average food. Excellent choice for couples or those desiring a true "getaway from it all" vacation.
A bit far from the airport. No air conditioning (but pleasant breezes!)
Fantastic owner/host. Very hands and in making his guest feel welcome. Wonderful food. perfect location.
