In a historic house built of stone and bricks, Saint John Hotel has a central location in the ancient town of Selcuk.
Score from 359 reviews Very good
It was very charming and the owner/host was extremely accommodating. The breakfast was excellent (actually the best we had during a month in Turkey). It was on a quiet backstreet. When we could not find it (does not show in any useful way when entering the location on Google Maps), the host ("U-gel" a phonetic pronunciation) trotted down to find us in the village, and then carried our bags to the location. The village is charming, but has become quite the tourist destination with many shops and several restaurants. It was quite a bit less expensive than some of the newer lodging choices. No chickens crowing or dogs barking. The A/C worked. Lots of local color photo ops in the town.
Although available, parking was difficult. The rooms were a bit small (but it was reasonably comfortable). Although I did not mind it, the road from Sirince to Selcuk is very winding and a bit of a challenge when meeting buses coming from the opposite direction...particularly on curves. On Turkish holidays it is a very crowded little village and driving is very difficult.
The Alaya Pension has only been in business under the present host for under the year. He is doing everything possible to make it a success. He is beginning with a situation right in the heart of the village in a beautiful renovated house. The rooms are clean and bright and there is a lovely patin area with views over the village to relax in.We only had time to stay the night but could have easily settled in for a week or two as the pension and the village are so peaceful and relaxing.
- Warm welcome and driving instructions provided by the caring and warm host - Incredibly charming and cosy traditional building with amazing views - No problem attitude and constant readiness to help - Delicious breakfast - Extra services (such as laundry) at no extra cost
- the fact that we could only stay there 3 days
A fabulous place to spend time in the mountains. The hospitality and service were fantastic. They take the time to buy local products for breakfast and the quality shows. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this pension to anyone.
- Tasty breakfast in the terrace - Warm welcome of this family's friends and relatives - good sleep
- My room very small, but there was good access to other parts in the property such as sitting room and terrace where I could work on the Internet or read.
Breakfast was great, the spot is excellent, the village is great, away from the crazy environment of Kousadasi.
Tiny room. Very expensive for what you get.
Found this delightful traditional Turkish pension - small (5 rooms), very clean, all en-suite rooms, perfect wifi and a wonderful host who can't do enough for you. Breakfast can be had at the Artemis Restaurant about 50m away. Has to be the best traditional breakfast we've ever had, and so very cheap and tremendous value for money. Perfect base for visiting Ephesus and in a lovely situation. Very peaceful village once all the day trip tourists have left for the day.
The place was very clean, the food was fresh and tasty. The proprietor spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The pension is in a very central position for visiting the local sites. I was very impressed.
