The common areas are interesting.
No view, no a/c, tiny bathroom, room in need of renovation. They have the most amazing terrace and they serve breakfast in the basement! On that price range there are many better options.
Great location. In the centre of Istanbul but on a quiet Street. Historical hotel with beautiful atmosphere. Very nice and kind staff. Comfortable spacious rooms.
Loved the old grandeur of the hotel; this is why we booked it for our first trip to Istanbul as it had a sense of history and a good location. The staff were lovely, relaxed and helpful. We were there for the world cup and had a great time watching the games every night in a beautiful old lounge room on a small tv! Location was great just off Istiklal Caddesi. Felt very safe in and around the hotel; we were travelling with our 20 year old son and 15 yo daughter and they loved the feel of the place too. Given we planned to spend most of the time out and about, we wanted to be able to come back somewhere relaxed, and safe, and this all worked out. I'd go back there if I get back to Turkey.
We'd booked fairly economic rooms and other reviews were pretty on the mark so there was nothing that didn't match expectations. If you want more spacious rooms with a better outlook and less 'economic' then you might trade up to a more expensive option there or book another 'modern' hotel.
Friendly staff, bags of character, great location
The location was perfect, wifi was good abd staff was very kindly.
Bathroom was very small, tv is not good, bunk lamp was not.
The location and the building itself is excellent if you really like the historical buildings.
I have made the booking for the wrong day as it was an overnight accomodation and arrived to the hotel around 5am the day before to spend the night. The front desk staff told me that the booking is for the next day and wanted to charge me for 7 hours if i want to check in. Although i have explained the situation and they had the availability, they have tried to make more money out of the situation. Also the room was smalling musty.
atmophere, old genuine feel, roofterrace
Wonderful location, beautiful roof terrace with views across the Golden Horn, very friendly, helpful staff, and beautiful decor.
Great location: close to Iztacal cd where tons of people and musicians hang out in the evening. Wonderful atmosphere. Lots of small restaurants. Close to Tunel train and easy to get to Sulthanamet. Derwish monastery close by to see dance on Sundays (make sure that you get ticket in advance) Rooftop terrace with wonderful view and great place to relax. Atmosphere in the hotel is very nice if you like historical buildings. Staff was wonderful. Place was very quiet -my room looked out the back. Transit to airport is best with a taxi (50 lira). People said in other reviews that rooms smell musty. True, but not bad in April. Everything was very clean.
Wifi on 5th floor was very spotty. But wifi in the lobby works well and is a nice place to hang out. Breakfast was ok. The spread was ok. Scrambled eggs should have been warm. Black tea was very bitter. No fruit. But overall good enough. I would use the hotel again in the future.
I loved everything about this hotel from the moment I stepped inside the front door. It is the complete antithesis to many of the modern international chain hotels that have very little soul or character. Staff were very professional and courteous at all times. I would go back without any hesitation.
The Location was just great. In the middle of noisy TAXIM however on a silent district. We enjoyed our stay alot. Very Polite Wellcome Desk Officer. The room needs a bit refurbish.
A bit worn out but full with charm. The receptionist helped us out in a most fabolous way and overall the service was great.
The wifi coverage was not very good and they charged 12 TL for a double machineespresso - more than I pay in Sweden for a baristamade.
The staff was helpful and the location was perfect. I also loved the oriental decoration a lot.
I couldn't stay in the room i booked. Hotelier told me the guests of the room didn't leave, so they gave me another room downstairs and with no balcony contrary to the room i booked.
The position. Just behind Isticlal Caddesi
The bathroom is very very small, about 1 m2. The breakfast is poor : no sausages, no ham, no fruit. Just two kinds of cheese, and one kind of sweet cake. The hotel is old and some refresh wouldn't be bad
The lounge area is nice and the breakfast was ok.
The room was extremely worn out, it smelled of smoke, as did the whole hotel, the air was extremely bad and the shower was somewhat broken. The toilet leaked and made a constant noise.
I liked the location of the hotel. It is very near to Taksim square and İstiklal street. Neverthless it is very quite. I mostly liked the interesting and warm decoration of the hotel. And the terrace was very beautiful.
The old-world atmosphere and grace, the polite and attentive staff, the breakfast and the unbeatable location - right in the middle of Beyoglu.
Hard to find fault....
Friendly staff, great locality of hotel. Caracterful room furnishings in the upgraded rooms.
The rooms we were allocated did not match your description and photograph, and were poorly furnished and very small. So we were offered better rooms and then upgraded again. Breakfasts were basic. Central heating in one room could not be turned off.
Friendly and helpful staff. Eclectic décor.
Breakfast was poor. More fruit needed. Scrambled egg was over-cooked. No plugs in bathroom sinks.
The only positive thing was to be able to change hotel and stay there for only one nightmare night.
The most horrible hotel I've ever been to. The room was realy old - in the most terrible way. The bed was very uncomfortable, the linen were old and had some spots. There was no air conditioning. The TV and wifi didn't work. The breakfast was very poor. The room smelled old, toilet was realy falling apart. We stayed one night and I was bitten by bugs during the night. We stayed in the 5th floor and there was a marriage in the following floor - the rooftop( the hotel rents the terrace for the night parties. When i complained to the reception about the noise the recepcionist was very very unpolite and told me that they rented the place and that the noise could go until 4 in the morning..we payed 70 euros for a standard room - meaning a decrepit room wirh noise, bugs, poorly decorated, falling apart all included. A nightmare. Reception staff was rude and not at all polite. When I explained to the receptionist/manager that we were very unsatisfied with the hotel, the very old room, uncomfortable bed, the very hot room, bad internet he offered a smaller room with airconditionning (that was equally bad and old). But there was someone in the room they show us, luggage was there. We refused. He try to sell another "better" room ( according to him, renovated?) but we must pay 90euros. The only positive thing was to be able to change hotel and stay there for only one nightmare night. In stead of the 3 of our original reservation. Stay away from that hotel.
The roof terrace and the lobby are simply awesome
Poorly renovated shower. The should invest some money and love there
The hotel has character which is the main reason for getting there. The authentic furniture and objects coming back from a century ago make the hotel a time machine that moves you back in time. The main bar at the hotel is gorgeous. Rooms are clean, staff is helpful with good English, breakfast is decent. Roof bar offers a sip of wine with a view on the Bosphorus. Location is very good for those who want to wander around Taksim.
Rooms need upgrade. Bathroom too small and presents challenges while taking the shower because of the narrow cabin.
Friendly staff, great location.
Noisy due to construction next door.
It's a wonderful old hotel with classic architecture and antique charm. The rooms are clean and the service friendly and helpful.
The shower stalls are very small, at least in the rooms I stayed in on my two visits there.
