Clean hotel, comfortable beds, spotless sheets and towels, strong and free wi-fi. Perfect location, just 1 minute walking from Cemberlitas area in Sultanahmet.. Nice staff. Omer was very helpful and friendly.
very kind staff
location near old city center. Good price
street is not nice. Noisy trash collection drive by every night
The free wifi, the nice wallpaper and comfortable bed.
The staff were rude and unhelpful. Promises were not kept. The light outside one of our rooms was not functioning, the staircase did not have proper hand railings on 3 floors and on one floor it did have railings but it was very shaky and on the verge of collapsing. Also the toilet bowls were shaky and the glass panel that holds toiletries were broken on its edges. The hotel manager was there at the reception counter when we left, after our first night,to go touring but he did not mention anything about needing the keys back to clean the rooms. We asked him about the broken toilet bowls and broken glasses in the bathrooms, whereby he agreed to have them fixed. However, when we came back nothing was fixed and the rooms were not cleaned. When we questioned the hotel 'manager', he said he was not able to fix anything as it was a Sunday(assuming that no repairmen in the whole of Istanbul works on a Sunday) and he had no keys to access the rooms to clean them. Again, he failed to mention any of these at the time we left the hotel earlier in the morning. The hotel had no backup generator when the area had a blackout. We stayed in the lobby as we can't go up to our rooms as it was pitch black. When we spoke to the manager about our difficulties staying in the hotel, he just shrug it off and said, "you get what you paid for." He even tried to threaten us by saying that “we were looking for trouble” when all we did was just telling about the difficulties we had. Another weird thing was that another hotel staff took care of our checking in and payment when we arrived. We also had more questions but he convinced us that we can speak further to his manager who will be in the hotel the next day. He said all of this with a fair command of English. However, when we wanted to checkout on the second night(we had earlier booked for four nights but couldn’t bear to stay in it any longer), he didn’t want to entertain us and repeatedly said ‘I no English’.
Staff very helpfull
Bathroom water supply hopeless Toilet placed wrong plade. Narrow space between. Bulps not working. One day no cleaning. TV wire hopeles arranged. No TV programs working. exept. Islam.
insects crawling in bathroom
good location near Grand Baazar, near historical place
clean of the room
best price, best location, best wifi, functional room, best breakfast and The staff are great. Thanks Mr. Hasan and Mr. Ömer
The staff was helpful. Breakfast was good Perfect location, near the tram and sultan ahmet and many restaurants.
The bed was separated not king bed. Bathroom very small Bad smell came from the window
Good location. About 600-800 meters walk from Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosqee, Topkapi Palace and Grand Bazar!
Clean in the room was poor.
Location is brilliant, everything important is only 5 mins walk away. Staff are helpful.
On closer inspection there were a few maintenance issues with our room but nothing that really had a negative impact on our holiday.
In contrary to what I saw in the pictures of the room while I was booking, the room I stayed in had window but opened to a wall!! This is the first time I stayed in a hotel like this. If I had known that, I would never have booked the room. It would be better if it was mentioned that in the explanation of the room.
I like good location, there are many atractions neare the hotel, like Hagia sophia, blue mosque. Tram stор is only five minut walk. The breakfast is good, but not varied.
The one reason why i booked this hotel thei have safe box. But when we arrieved and cheked safe box , it didn,t work. Staf did not fix this problem. In room thei do not have any wardrobe. The room was not clean.
Location is good and staff are really nice and doing their best. Easy to find and get to from the airport. Bed was really comfortable. Plenty of hot water. Buffet breakfast. Décor provided entertainment. Excellent local restaurants.
Room was cleaned on first day and then not again for 2 days. Sheets were too small for the bed so came undone all the time. One day breakfast was obviously just leftovers from previous day. Cost quoted in euros was then "translated" into lira at a very poor exchange rate. Transfer offered from airport was more expensive than just getting a taxi at the airport. This place would be a good option in an emergency but not otherwise.
Good location, friendly staff.
If you're after a big room or a nice view, this is not the place.
staff attitude , location
wifi was a bit weak and slow
Wonderful location, very friendly staff, excellent point for visiting the city
It's very comfortable hotel. It is after repearing. It's very simple to get to this hotel from aeroport by tram.Very carefull stuff, you can ask them about all things you want - how to get to same points, where to go for walk, where to eat cheaper and ets. All of them speak english. And very tasty coffee and breakfast.
small drawback - no exhaust in the bathroom, very humid
extremely friendly and helpful staff
they need black out curtains for the windows. at night all the outside lights keep the room way to light
Hotel California was a great find. The three brothers and their father who manage the hotel were attentive and friendly with great advice and always willing to help. The hotel was a short walk to some fantastic places, and close to the tram which would take you anywhere you needed. 24 hour reception was a blessing as we arrived past midnight and had to leave for the airport at four in the morning. A big thank you to our hosts. I hope I meet you all again.
Location, friendliness and neatness
There was both a power outage one afternoon and no water one evening of a two day stay. The front desk failed to wake us and when we came down to breakfast he was still sleeping. Difficult to compare as we did not visit similar facilities in Istanbul during peak season before.
Location of the hotel is very good. Staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast was OK.
I and my family of 6 (Me, my spouse, and kids aged 16,16,13 and 1 year) stayed there for 3 nights. I had booked two rooms: one double and one triple room. The triple rooms was OK but the double room was extremely small which was changed to a triple room without additional charges on the last day. For the first two night I was made to live in a tiny single room. 2 single beds crammed into a single-bed room to make it a double room with one side of the bed completely blocked by the side wall with no space for the person sleeping on that side to get off the bed. Even the bathroom door on the other side could not be opened completely due to shortage of space. No space for baby's cot in that room although notified in advance at the time of booking. The hotel staff should be mindful of the needs of their guests when allocating rooms. The hotel's own website mentions charges for shuttle transfer from the airport as 86 TL but we were charged 100 TL both ways. Wifi was not available in the rooms for the first day but it was fixed later.
