Central location, wellcoming, great breakfast, very friendly.
The location was great , the tram wasn't far away if you wanted to go further. Lots of restaurants close by, just about everything you need. The staff were lovely, and helpful, limited English, but we got by fine. Certainly looking forward to visiting again, with our friends.
The location of Candles House is perfect in a small side street in the charming old town (Kaleici). Emine our hostess is a lovely lady, full of smiles and made us wonderful traditional Turkish breakfasts during our three-day stay. She doesn't speak English but had a useful speaking translation app on her phone which was very helpful. The price of the accommodation with the breakfast represents very good value.
We had booked a de-luxe bedroom which looked lovely in the pictures on the website, but we were given a room in the annexe house next door. The annexe property was still under renovation and unfinished and our room was completely different from the description on our booking form and the website. Our satellite tv didn't work and we mentioned this on the first morning but it wasn't repaired during our stay which was disappointing as we wished to watch tv in the evenings.
None English speaking staff. Rooms were not cleaned on our 2nd day. Staff smoking in the courtyard, then working & preparing guest breakfast, this is unhygenic!
Cleanliness Location Comfortable Bed Excellent Khavalti (Breakfast) Will look forward to a return visit.
Unfortunately(unavoidable)because of wood floors and open staircase to rooms there was some noise when guests were arriving after a night out.
Lovely spot just inside the old town, close to everything we wanted to see. Clean traditional house and although English was not really understood as in other Turkish places our hosts were both friendly and helpful.
Position and cleanliness.
Staff not very helpful.
everything and price too
The hotel is hidden in a side street in Antalya's old town, close to Hadrian's gate. The fact that the street is too narrow to drive through means that it's extremely quiet. They seem to be currently extending the hotel to a neighbour house, which isn't 100% completed yet. The rooms come with Aircon and a fridge, while some of them are really well equipped, the ones in the new house next door are a mix of old and new furniture. A typical turkish breakfast is served in the idyllic garden under blossoming trees. The staff, even though not fluent in English, does their best to help you out - the fact that wifi is available makes Google Translate a great helper in Turkey :)
Breakfast was a bit too much fried, but we appreciated that it was all Turkish and when in Rome, one's got to try it all... The hotel is not yet known by taxi drivers, so it's vital to have the hotels number by hand so they can call them to get directions in Turkish.
Located in Old Town but not near the harbour.
No water for 2 days so no shower or flushing toilet. Staff would not clear room, change towels or empty bin. No breakfast available until 9.30 to 10am. Garden awash with feral cats.
The wi Fi was excellent as was the location. The hotel was close to everywhere we wanted to see and being in the historic old town it was close to some fantastic restaurants.
The staff couldn't speak English so there was instantly a big communication problem. The hotel was having renovations so this also had a negative aesthetic impact on the hotel. The hotel was never cleaned and on the morning we left (at 9) no one was awake and we had to leave our hotel key at the reception. The shower was difficult to work and we only had one roll of toilet paper for three nights. The bed was uncomfortable extremely and the sheets were a strange brown shade in the middle. There was also a hole in one of the towels. My boyfriend and I would not recommend this hotel.
Great location, clean rooms, fully working a/c
Staff could not speak English - ok unless there is an issue or need advice on your trip.. Breakfast awful. Overall, very recommendable though.
- Mr. Tufan and the staff. - The location is perfect (near everything and easily accessible.) - Local breakfast. - Tea and coffee. - Special attention to guests' requests. Couple of situations happened and the staff were very responsive. Many thanks to them.
The location was great just beside hadrian gate and attaturk street
The breakfast was poor just one type of meal everyday, We stayed four days and we asked them to clean the room one time but they didn't change the towels also the air-conditioner was focused on the bed.
This hotel is in such a brilliant spot and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Home-like hotel. Boss man super good. Very cute kids at home, feeling very at home here. At Hadrian's behind the door, very convenient.
Great location, reasonable price, lovely garden to eat your breakfast. We arrived early in the morning and they worked quickly to have our room ready prior to the nominated check in time, which was great.
It is worth noting the staff don't speak too much English, however we had no problems communicating using a translator and they were very helpful and enthusiastic during our stay
The staff were lovely.
Very homely room
Hard to find the hotel
staff very friendly and warm
The family room was excellent. Very clean and modern with an excellent bathroom - with hairdryer provided. It was very clean.
I was a little disappointed with the breakfast. A Turkish breakfast plate with no tomatoes or cucumber seemed a little bit odd.
We booked the twin room for one night and got upgraded to tripe room. The hotel is an ottoman style house with great location in old town. Room is very clean and lovely. Even the host is not perfect in English we loved her so much and we spent a wonderful night with her and her family dancing and having teas. Having Turkish breakfast in the garden is also an enjoyable experience. We definitely enjoyed our stay there and thanks Candles for host ing us!
Location. Nice garden where breakfast is served.
The owners live in a garret just above the rooms. You can see their laundry hanging up there through a trapdoor located in the ceiling. The interiors need a renewal. The walls and doors are quite thin and you can hear almost everything. Late at night, you can also feel some loud music coming from a nearby pub. We do not understand how people can say breakfast is good. Not a good tea (we believe they use tap wáter), just a piece of salami, a few olives, cucumbers and tomatoes. It was one of the most basic Turkish breakfast we have ever eaten. One day, they did not even give any tomatoes (if you know Turkey and Turks, you certainly know that is something weird). It is as easy as buying them on the corner shop. And the most annoying thing is that it took more than 30 minutes for them to prepare the breakfast after we sat at the table.
Candles is in a great location in the Old City. It is a little difficult to navigate to if you are driving (see other reviews) but well worth the effort. The family that runs the pension is fantastic and was very helpful getting us situated in our rooms. The rooms were comfortable but not extavagant, the bathrooms were tiled and clean. Know that you'll be staying in the upstairs bedrooms in a family home (thus the pension name). The beds were comfortable and clean and breakfast was great, home cooked eggs and a turkish layout of olives, cheese, bread and tomato/cucumber combo. Overall a great experience in the best area of Antalya.
A few details need to be worked out in the rooms. They provided refrigerators that needed to be cleaned and were not working even when plugged in. The television was out in one of the rooms, a tragedy when trying to watch World Cup action, and the AC units are a bit small and slow to cool down the room. This was only an issue due to the warning level heat Antalya was experiencing when we were there. Otherwise, you probably wouldn't mind.
