Sapphire is a classic Ottoman-style hotel just over a quarter mile from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet.
Score from 2504 reviews Excellent
Located in historic peninsula, 400 metres from the sea, Alice Ottoman Palace features a restaurant, a bar and a snack bar. Free WiFi and a 24-hour front desk are available in the property.
Score from 19 reviews Wonderful
This modern hotel in central Istanbul is just over half a mile from the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar. It includes a gym and a spa with an indoor pool and a Turkish hammam (public bath).
Score from 294 reviews Good
This private Ottoman house is quietly situated in a cobblestone street, just a 7-minute walk from Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. The hotel’s bar terrace overlooks the Marmara Sea.
Score from 613 reviews Good
The location was very good, 5 minutes from Grand Bazard, walking distance to Blue Mosque and Aka Sofia. Tram 3 minutes from hotel. Plenty of restaurants around hotel. Very good breakfast
The street is very steep. No lift in hotel, narrow steps. Bed missing a top sheet, we took one from housekeeping wardrobe located in each floor. Duvet did not have cover either.
Dirty and staff spoke limited English. We were asked to move rooms three times!
Web site misrepresented hotel which was in a shabby area. Rooms were basic and certainly not 'boutique'.
Staff seemed helpful and did attend to issues once they were raised. Location of the hotel makes it easy to get to the main points of interest. Towels were changed daily Breakfast was varied with some fresh local ingredients - juice was disappointing though.
Hotel is not as described on web site and most certainly not a 4 star hotel by UK or US standards. It can be noisy in the evenings and the curtains/ drapes and nets are dirty in the rooms. The small safes in each room are not fixed to anything are easily lifted and are therefore effectively useless. The carpet on the stairs is worn and dirty, there are cracks in the plaster work on the walls and some holes in the walls. The shower holder was broken in our room and there were issues with the toilet not working. Wifi did not seem to work anywhere other than in reception.
The friendliness & helpfullness of the staff. Really nice people. Also liked the unique cave like breakfast area. Stairs not good for disabled or elderly though.
We didn't mind but some people may not like the age of the hotel. It is very old but we thought it had a certain charm. We think we experienced the real Istanbul 600 metres from The Grand Bazaar not some resort where you could be anywhere.
Location for the metro
The hill up to the metro not for the elderly
Size of rooms and breakfast in basement (liked as cozy grotto)
The actual street was very steep and hard to walk with suitcases.
Great price, friendly and helpful staff.
Could be cleaner, safe in room unsecure.
Not a lot! !!
The rooms are not as they are in the pictures.. the staff said that the hotel was under construction so we stayed in another building which was very poor. The hotel is sittuated in the middle of a very busy market which ment it was noisy early in the mornings. Found it hard to sleep at night as the waals didn't have insulation and can hear the rooms above and below. Very poor overall
staff very friendly and helpful and the location (not the street, but the fact that was walking distance from mosque, bazar, etc
the pictures look nothing like the place...they must have been taken 20 yrs ago...
I like the rough and ready atmosphere, a working class district that is full of character. Can be approached by tram at Beyazit station and then a steep descent 500 meters away. I was met by a receptionist who gave me a very warm room. Breakfast appeared varied and healthy. Good linen, pillows and a well-stocked bathroom. Very clean.
Security is an issue. Being in a rough area, I would feel safer if the windows are grilled. The room was about 30% smaller than indicated. Upon complaining, I was given a bigger room, but this is in an annex that requires a steep climb via a spiral staircase and does not have any staff. The safe was not fixed to the wall, while the windows could be easily opened. We moved to another hotel although I have prepaid for a 2-night stay.
The staff were extremely helpful, they arranged taxis and generally helped anyway they could.
The area that the hotel is in was very noisy at night. It didnt quiet down until about 1am which was a bit annoying
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location. We could easily walk to Grand Bazaar and other sights. Would gladly recommend.
very nice stuff! very friendly and nice people. Very good breakfast!! Big and clean rooms.
In our room wi fi didn't work and worked only in lobby
Esat was the receptionist Mr Yilmaz was the manager they both were excellent they were so helpfull and kind that I didn't even say anything about the room just stayed a night and we moved on the next day, breakfast was ok.
I don't really know where to start ,floor squecky, pluming zero (shower head not there, bath dirty, toilet baissin not screwed on the floor ,the tap on the sink every time we used it moved around ,plug above the sink on the right side of the tap on the same level pluged in there was the hotel's hair drier dangerous or what, price well what can I say your site had a 357 euro deluxe tripple room on a special offer for 57 euro a night last room it looked like a really nice room I am sorry to say was the worst room I ever stayed in with my family does booking.com check out these places before advertising them on the site ,location half way up a hill in a one way street at 22.30 hours were dropped off at the bottom of the hill and we had to curry our luggage up the hill what a disappointment this hotel was!!......NOT FOR FAMILIES,NOT FOR OLDER PEOPLE .I WOULD NOT I REPEAT NOT PAY MORE THAN 20 EURO A NIGHT IF I HAD TO STAY THERE FOR ANY REASON
Nice clean and close to old town.
I think booking.com overcharged for this hotel but the Turkish price was budget fair.
good staff and service! the location is very interessting
Nice location in the old part of Istanbul.
Breakfast was rather poor. The terrace on the roof had a wonderful view but was dirty.
The staff was very helpful my special thanks to Mr Muharram who was kind enough to help me make a last minute coach ticket reservation for a trip to Antalya he spent like an hour or so looking for available places for me and my wife in different transportation companies keep the good work Ilyas
Really excellent place for to stay. Not so expensive, but it is in very center and close to the most of objects to see in Sultanahmet. Main street and tram station is on 5 min.distance by walking. Easy to find way back to hotel even if at night. Stuff is extra friendly. Good breakfast. Worth money. Definitely reccomend.
They clean the room and change everything including your soap bar every single day.
We booked Suite room for 4 nights, but they didn't inform us on their hotel descriptiont that there is no lift to go to the suite room on the 4th floor. So, it is quite too much to go to up to the 4th floor via stairs. Safety box is also unsecure at all. They put just a small safety box which you can take it out easily. They also do not inform the location of the hotel which is really on the middle of the hilly part, and the road in front of the hotel is CLOSED between certain hours. So we came around 14.00 hours, and our airport shuttle cannot park right in front of the hotel, so we had to walk climb up the hill will our luggages.
