I liked the efficient unobtrusive service from the hotel staff. The hotel staff members went out of their way to make my stay pleasant and comfortable. Of particular note was the welcome afforded by the manager Ali who sat down with me and drew a map of the attractions and best restaurants, he also personally escorted me to a travel booking company who looked after my visits to the Gallipoli battlefields, Troy and the island of Bozcaada. The breakfast was also a treat, black olives. tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, fresh bread and apricot jam! For me there was very little not to like, my bed was a little hard but I got used to it..

Ali, the general manager, was very friendly and helpful and went out of his way to help his hotel clients. We had only half day to go to Troy and Ali even drove us to the mini-bus station himself. The staff next morning was also very helpful in trying to arrange tour groups for me and my family. Overall, this is one of the most personable hotels we stayed in Turkey. The Turkish breakfast was also wonderful and presented well. If you go to Canakkale, definitely stay at this hotel. It is also very closely located to the ferry harbor and conveniently located to go to visit Troy and Gallipoli battlefields cemetery. This is not about Hotel Helen. I only have the most positive comments about the hotel and the administrative staffs. Avoid the dolsum, mini-bus to Troy. The driver deliberately lied to us (last bus was at 3:00 PM) and he told us this after he drove us all on the last bus that day to Troy. Then he made a promise to my wife to pick us up at 5:00 PM, but didn't show up. The security guard at Troy had to call him. He came and after he took us back to the hotel Helen, was trying to extort us for 50 Lira, claiming that is the taxi rate. The guy doesn't even have a taxi license. Avoid that mini-bus to Troy. Find some other way to get there or you might really get stranded there as there are no taxis outside the Troy park entrance.

The hotel was very nice, small but clean and comfortable. The location is amazing - right at the main street only 100m away from the ferry. The food was good. The staff was friendly and they all speak nice English which is quite rare in Turkey. The hotel had a private parking which is very important in Canakkale. Definitely worth the money!

I loved the location. We drove off the ferry and 1.5 blocks later pulled up in front. Friendly staff, immaculately clean, and a great breakfast the next morning. Right beside the waterfront so many choices for dinner, too. Cannot beat Helen Hotel.

Location is perfect, few meters from ferry port. Staff was really kind and helpful. In the room the light switch in the entrance and tap in the bathroom was dangling. Also when I arrived they said they did not have my booking. I don't know if its hotel's or booking.com's fault. (There was empty rooms, so it did not turn out to be a problem)

Location is best for ANZAC visitors - even though you must ferry over to the peninsular. The city has good restaurants and plenty to do, including close access to Troia. We were helped with our request for information re Gallipoli and Troia at the front desk. Excellent staff. Breakfast was very basic, coffee not real. Bring your own teabags.

Situated close to the ferries across the straits ; only about 300 metres away. Helpful and friendly staff. Manager assisted with parking car because parking is a big problem in centre of city. Rooms comfortable with en-suite bathroom. Ample breakfast. Good value for money. Excellent base for visiting the Gallipoli cemeteries and memorials. Parking is a problem in the hotel area and surrounding streets. The hotel has a few parking spaces at the back and an arrangement also to park by the ferry. I would recommend leaving your car on other side of straits if you are visiting battlefield sites. Saves car ferry fares and easier to travel as a foot passenger.

A great location just a short stroll from the ferry, shopping and restaurant areas. Traffic noise with windows open became tiresome, but windows are double-glazed.

Excellent location for proximity to ferries and the cbd. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Large free car park at the rear of the hotel. Windows have been double glazed which eliminates the majority of external street noise. Just a small point, but one which almost invariably found in the majority of hotels, was the absence of fresh fruit juices at breakfast.

Hotel is in a good location- you can see it as you get off the ferry. Room is fairly basic with an OK bathroom- slight smell but could be because there were roadworks directly outside our room. Airconditioner was effective as it was 38C. Breakfast is OK- normal Turkish fare. Staff were friendly and helpful. A fridge would have been good as would extra pillows.

Mr Ali was a terrific help - he not only assisted us in terms of advise around flight/arrivals before we left home but also picked us up on arrival. His warmth and helpfulness made our experience really great and we will be recommending the hotel to others. It was not the fault of the hotel and could not be prevented but we had some building going on outside our room until late at night and it was noisy and hard to sleep

“The staff here are very helpful, they organised tours to Troy and Gallipoli for us, had one of the staff members walk us down to the ferry port and buy our tickets for us, they gave us tea and cake on arrival when they heard us say we were hungry, they called a taxi for us for our return trip to the airport. the location is great, it is only a 5 minute walk to the ferry port where you catch the ferry acros to Gallipoli (15-20 minutes across the ocean), it is half an hour on bus from the city of Troy, and it is a 20 minute walk to a decent enough beach. Breakfast was traditional Turkish, but very yummy. The room was clean and comfortable, we had a small balcony, air conditioning, a huge bed and hot water. Overall it was a great stay, I would recommend this hotel to anybody.” Amy, London |
