Ipekyolu is a pleasant small guest house just off the main street of old Mardin. Very little English, but that hardly matters. The staff is warm and welcoming. My room was number 7 which has views of the Mesopotamian plateau. A drawback is that this room is directly under the upper patio which makes it a bit noisy. However all was quiet after 10 p.m. The hotel is clean, there's lots of hot water, and the bed was comfortable. The generous breakfast was a typical Turkish buffet. I am a 60-something woman traveling alone. The hotel felt safe.
All was great. Wi-fi is best in the comfortable lobby.
A real nice place. Several terraces. Beautiful view over the Mesopotamian plain. Good breakfast. Friendly people. One of them, Burak, was very helpful, with advice and information.
View amazing. Room in historic building, very lovely.
Other guests a bit noise early in morning.
really friendly staff in the center, yet far from the crowd
Great hotel in a great settimg. The balcony where breakfast is served overlooks the valley. Amazing. The room was cool and spacious and a/c worked very well. Staff speak little english so be ready with google translate just in case. They are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.
Ladies of the staff were truly nice and provided a warm hospitality. The magic atmosphere of the room (resembling a place of the thousand and one nights' tale). The fresh terrace.
We spent 3 nights there and we're very happy for this choice. The guesthouse is much more cosy and intimate than many hotels. Rooms on first floor have more light than the ones on the ground floor. Arriving to the guesthouse The surroundings on the alley are really nice and quite. Barna and Nihat, the owners, are very kind. Nihat is an archeologist and manage the museum. Special thanks to Barak who is a very helpful and kind person. We were 2 adults and 2 young children. For us the room was really spacious and has 2 single and 1 double bed. We appreciated that opportunity. Terrace is a very pleasant place to spend the evening without noise and 2 beds to take rest and enjoy the cooler evening/ night temperature. Very good value and a good base to explore the old city and surroundings.
The breakfast is a bit too light. We could expect to get a cleaning room service after two night. A little English speaking staff will help the customer and staff itself.
Views from terrace were amazing. Staff friendly and helpful. It was very hot so we appreciated the effective aircon in our room. Room was comfortable and full of character.
Close to main street. Felt safe as a solo female traveller. I had a view of the plain. Room basic but for the price i paid was great. Great they are associated wuth local womens group. The staff and most people in Mardin are welcoming. Just say Merhaba and that helps.
No negatives. Not much English but i should know more Turkish if going there. Google translate helps. For female travellers be wary of kids on streets especially on weekends. They are ruthless. Do no let yourself be alone with them. I got groped by a 12 to 15 year old boy that followed me up to main school to take photos.
We enjoyed our stay at Ipekyolu very much! Especially the friendly staff was exceptional. They even let us use another room until ours was ready because we came there early. I would totally recommend this lovely place!
great ancient place to stay in of hundred years old, beautiful sightseeing of the whole historical city. lovely staff, also very helpful......thank you Boraq ..
This place is a gem, tucked away on a side street in Marden's old city. I loved sitting on the rooftop and gazing down on Mesopotamia. The only criticism that I can make of this place is that the staff spoke very little English. But we got by with Google translator.
-Beautiful, spacious room with private bathroom -Breakfast on the balcony with a great view -The guesthouse is centrally located but still has a serene atmosphere
Very lovely ambiance, terrace with nice views, staff very helpful and friendly. Feels genuine.
Pillows were not comfortable, very small bathroom without towel rack (which I didn't understand -- it's a simple fix).
We had a lovely time at Ipekyolu guesthouse, the location was perfect for exploring Mardin, hidden slightly from the main street meant that it was quiet and the first room we had was fantastic. The terrace where breakfast is taken also gives a lovely view. We had a wonderful time with Burak who takes care of the place at night, long talks including visiting his art studio and they even let us use the kitchen facilities there to make our own salad! Great place to stay in Mardin, was a special treat.
Friendly staff, great location, beautiful small hotel. Mardin is a gorgeous place with a very interesting history. It is a great place to base yourself as there are heaps of things to see nearby
Very charming and relaxing environment, well maintained flowers ; a beautiful oasis. The breakfast area overlooks the vast Plains. The B and B is run by a NGO that helps children and empowers village women to be able to get a income. The pricing was very fair, quality very good, and you felt a good helping the mission.
Leaving for the next city.
Location is nice and good to know that money paid goes for women and children's benefits. Stuff is nice.
There wasn't hot water to have a shower.
The venue is so quaint and beautiful. If there was hot water, I would have given this hotel a great review. It has a good location, the staff are helpful (even though I spoke very little Turkish - and they spoke no English), and the general vibe of the hotel is great.
There was no hot water in the room. The first night I just put up with it. The second I asked them to fix it; but there was still no hot water. The third night I used the communal bathroom near the reception area. Just make sure that you ask for a different room if they can't provide hot water. The single room has ventilation that allows all the pedestrian traffic from the street below to infiltrate the room. Also experienced a donkey's wake-up call! The breakfast terrace is above the single room, and you can hear the people walking, so it's not good if you plan to sleep in.
very nice hostel friendly staff quiet superb breakfast
Very nice authentic guesthouse, perfect located in the city center of "old" Mardin. Clean rooms, great staff, excellent breakfast, WiFi.
friendly atmosphere, polite manager and helpful staff located in the old city, nice terrace for breakfast, spacious room, they provide a useful map and small soaps as a gift run mainly by women, tasteful decoration printing facilities,
very week internet connection in the room, dust falling down from the ceiling, not enough sockets, three sockets not working, TV control not working, no garbage bin in the room, doors squeaking, the room was humid and the humidity removing machine was not working single duvet for double beds, no parking, and payable municipal parking (10 liras per day), no toiletries, no slippers, no hangers in the bathroom not all rooms have WC and bathroom.
The location was excellent. It is located directly off the main road in Mardin, but is quiet. It is easy to get to with bags and not difficult to find because of the signage from the main street. The hotel itself was very quant and pretty. The view from the top of the deck is breathtaking and you can enjoy breakfast or a beer. The staff helped to find a car to rent for the day to drive to Midyat and we got a very fair price. I highly recommend this if Mardin is your base. It was very cold in the room and the heaters were great to warm up the room at night.
The family room that my friends and I stayed in was underground. The rest of the rooms are not. Very interesting to stay in a cave hotel if you haven't before. This room must be fairly new because there were a lot of details missing that would have made the stay more comfortable. -The bathroom is not private. There is wood panelling surrounding it with an open ceiling. I would recommend that they close off the entire end of the room to make a real bathroom. There is a lot of wasted space. -No place to put anything in the bathroom, especially your towel or clothes, except the toilet. Small vanity was only enough for your toothbrush. -Need to install hooks to hang towels. No place in the room to hang the towel to air dry. -The cement was constantly falling down from the stone ceiling, leaving the room constantly dirty and grity. They didn't clean the room after the first night. This would have helped.
The hotel was extremely comfortable for me and my family. I booked the triple room as I was traveling with my husband and 2 young daughters. I was glad I did so that we could have the extra space. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Breakfast was lovely up on the terrace overlooking the plains. Our room was very comfortable. It included an electric kettle, a very nice, hairdryer, and bathroom storage (always nice and rare to have!). The decorations were beautiful. It was centrally located and quiet. The mosque at 5am was not too loud.
Parking wasn't included on site but it was close. We parked in a main parking once you enter town. I recommend confirming with the hotel the name of the parking. It is hard (if not impossible) to find the hotel from driving down the street. It is best to call them as you are coming into town so they can meet you at the parking which is just a couple minutes walking away.
