Great building - ancient place recently restored, castle-like atmosphere great rooms, love for detail. The suite is beautiful. Nice courtyard where to sit in the evening, sip a tea and enjoy the view nice owner, happy to help you with a lot of suggestions Poor breakfast at the time of our travel all roads were being rebuilt so it was a bit difficukt to get there. According to the locals, in 6-7 months the works should be over.

The hotel is over a 1000 years old and located in a labyrinth of narrow streets at least as old as the hotel itself. The streets and services are all being extensively renovated. The hotel staff are happy to help with directions and even as an escort as I occasionally needed. The rooms are QUIET, they are located in a massive stone building after all, the staff has done extensive repairs to the building and in the process incorporated modern conveniences in most unobtrusive and imaginative ways. While there I visited a number of ancient site including Gobekli Teppe, a site dating back some 12,000 years. More a problem with booking.com. I found it difficult to find the hotel's website.

We loved the rustic and genuine atmosphere. With the high vaulted ceilings and view out over the Mesopotanian plains, we felt like we were staying in a castle. It was an absolutely stunning room! There were lots of large terraces to relax on and the the staff couldn't have been better. Breakfast was served on the terrace and was delicious.

1. View overlooking the north Mesopotamian plain 2. Friendly proprietor 3. Hotel appointments: the hotel is a renovated stone building high up on the hill comprising old Mardin: very comfortable and private. 1. Difficult to find, though road constuction is partly responsible. 2. Rubble strewn and very steep paths must be naviaged in order to get to the hotel from the nearest street access points. Though a bit disconcerting at first, and not recommended for people with mobility constraints, the hotel is an oasis and worth the scramble. . 3. Small items" no readign lamps in our room, no maid sevice (though we were only there two nights).'
