I booked a five-night stay at the Hotel Manastir commencing on April 22, 2015. Although the hotel had been recommended by turkish friends and the views were good, the service and amenities were disappointing. My room wasn't cleaned the second day after check-in, the room refrigerator didn't work, the breakfast consisted of fresh greens without dressing, eight kinds of olives, barny local cheese and stale bread with eight kinds of jam (no international foods), a scorched omelet in place of the requested scrambled eggs and undrinkable coffee--remarkable considering that it was Nescafe. If you want fruit juice or drinkable coffee, you're expected to pay extra. Fortunately, there are two Starbucks in Bodrum City Center.
I was prepared to overlook these deficiencies until I received notice that I had to check out two days early because my daughter had been injured in a motorbike accident. When I asked for a partial refund--having paid in advance for my five-night stay--the general manager, Mr. ERDAL OZADALI, became angry and refused. when I explained the circumstances, his reply was "That doesn't matter" (translation: "Your problems don't matter to me"). When I pressed on, Mr. Ozadali flatly insisted I "Go outside" (translation: "Leave the premises immediately"). When I said I would report this treatment online, he responded "write where you want" (translation: "I could care less"). he again told me to "go outside" and turned and left--the entire encounter lasted two minutes at most. I asked him his name as he left and he refused to tell me his role at the hotel or his name. The embarrassed front desk clerk confirmed that this was, in fact, the general manager, and gave me his business card.
I'm prepared to tolerate a lot of sloppy service in hotels but not incredibly rude, unprofessional treatment by the person who's supposed to be setting an example for the hotel staff.
The Manastir has a great view of the castle from bay side rooms and public areas, but is located far from the city center and requires a hike up steep hill. Taxis from city center are not cheap at 13 TL one way (fixed price)
