The city of Istanbul offers a trip unlike any other, encompassing Asian and European cultures to create a heady mix of art, music and food. Amazing city, so much to see. Lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants. Worth buying a travel card that you can use on buses, ferries and metro. Be prepared for lots of walking if you want to see as much of the city as you can. Amazing shopping, much cheaper than other parts of Turkey.

Istanbul is no longer a destination for budget travellers, it is quite pricey to eat out, drink wine or go to museums in comparison to places such as Spain or even parts of Italy. Visits to Hammams begin at about 65€.
But is is still beautiful to walk around the city and go on the river, neither of which cost. The public transport is fantastic, very reliable.
We found the Turkish people very friendly and polite.

Taxi drivers cheat a lot, especially when they realise you come from UK, USA, EU or from other rich countries.
Speaking in English makes the prices jump dramatically.
If possible, try to speak in Turkish to get better deals.

Istanbul is a very interesting city so rich in culture and history. The city has a lot to offer for any type of visitor with varied activities to do, natural wonders and historical places to visit, flavorful dishes and gastronomic delights to savor, and to immerse in a complex juxtaposition of the traditional and modern social, cultural milieu.

Around 15 years since I last visited the city.
Around 15 years since I last visited the city. It still remains on of the most captivating cities in the world. The food is amazing, the sights are all beautiful. Public transport has also become very convenient, with relatively cheap fares as well.
The cost of food, going out and attractions however have become ridiculously overpriced. I know the inflation is very high, but people trying to scam you on top of the already excessively inflated prices just makes you feel less welcome. Things such as different menus and separate prices and entrance fees for foreigners are never nice to encounter.

Istanbul will be very busy during the holidays, as it is with other cities. However, the transport system is excellent and well connected. The new airport is huge, most probably bigger than Heathrow airport in UK. Be aware though of your belongings especially in crowded places. Food is great, however, make sure you check the prices, so you dont get surprises when billing comes. Best time to visit the city is March - April (cool) and August to October; beyond those months, it can be either chilly or hot in summer.
I strongly recommend Weingart Hotel, first of all, because of the staff behavior - Mr. Dovlet was wonderful and very helpful, he answered our requests and tried his best to make our stay a memorable one. Many thanks also to Mr. Tayfun! The location is a very good one - next to Galata Tower, to tram station (between Karakoy and Tophane), short distance to Taksim Square and easily to reach Sultanahmet area. The breakfast was diversified and tasty. It is not luxury accommodation, but comfortable and pleasant.
Group of 10 women travelling in a group for a short get a way in Istanbul having never been there before. The hotel was so helpful. Organised our taxi from the airport, guided tour of Sultanahmet sites, a boat trip on the Bosphorus and a hammam spa too.
The best breakfast we have ever eaten. Served outside on their small terrace.
Thanks for being fantasic hosts. Will always recommend Hotel Poem to anyone who wants to stay in the Sultanahmet area.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, the views from the terrace is probably one of the best views of Istanbul specially at night. The staff was very helpful and the room was a good size for us. The big windows on one side of the room are amazing and makes the view from the room very good. The facilities were good too and the staff was very helpful. The location is very near to the metro station and galata tower and very easy access to taksim square.
Although this is not a luxury 5 star hotel, it is very clean and comfortable and staff are very helpful.
Its a great location - easy to access the buses / metro to the centre and all the historical locations, as well as the ferries.
Berhan was also very helpful in helping me to obtain an Istanbul card , to be able to use the metro etc, and advised me about the local area and places to eat, as well as arranged my airport taxi efficiently.
Fantastic location , super close to all the action at Taksim square and also the Havaist bus stop for the Istanbul airports .
Our room was immaculate with a beautiful side view of the BOSPHORUS . We always came back to a super clean room after a long day of work and sightseeing . The breakfast spread was vast catering to everyone’s need !
The people at the doors always greeted us with a warm smile . All in all a perfect stay !
The best part of our trip in Istanbul was, undoubtedly, finding this Hotel. The Staff, especially the Manager, were incredible to us. 5 star hotel treatment! Everything was perfect and we will recommend this place to everyone we know!
I would like to thank one more time to Mr Murat (manager) for having such a good and pure heart in a city full of greediness. We will never forget him.
Ahmed, worker in this hotel is the best guy I have met in Istanbul. If you need tickets or any favour, Ahmed is capable to do it for you all in one place. Highly satisfied with stay at this Hotel. I consider this as 5 star hotel instead of 3 star. Cleanliness outstanding, tasty breakfast, polite and helpful behavior of hotel staff. 10 stars out of 10.
We loved to stay at this hotel!! Everything was wonderful!! The room was beautiful and big, with kitchenette and a living room area. The view from the room was great!! The staff was A+, helping us with everything we needed. The hotel is in Taksim Square, best area in Istanbul and a few steps from restaurants, shopping, markets. Best stay ever!!

It was a wonderful hotel at one the best locations of Istanbul. It is close enough and far enough from Taksim Square and we enjoyed the accessibility of the location. Their breakfast is elaborate and local and authentic and fresh with something for almost every taste and habit. Book and you won't regret it.

This stay was an emergency stay because of 1st May. Our main hotel was at Taksim square, the centre of Istanbul. Because of the 1st May celebrations the centre was closed so we were forced to search for a hotel close to the airport. Location is 20 minutes from airport.
The location of the hotel is very convenient. Very close to the Taksim square. One can enjoy lively atmosphere of Istanbul. Everything is within walking distance. Lots of restaurants, fast food and Turkish delight around the hotel. A good value for the money.
