We booked the Orient because my mate had stayed here years ago. We,re both older (and wealthier) now. The location is good being in the old quarter and in a lively street in which the Orient is by far the loudest joint. We shared what was called the suite (room 202) and this was perfectly adequate providing you don,t expect things like change of towels and sheets (at least there were sheets!) I wouldn't,t like to stay in the dorm, but that,s me. If you,re young and into all that implies you,ll probably enjoy the Orient big time.
Not cheap for what you get but then most of Istanbul was more expensive than I was expecting considering the YTL has devalued recently - and, despite what Lonely Planet suggests , we didn't,t get laid!
Barak helped us take our bags to our room at check-in. He and other staff were always friendly & willing to help or answer questions. For example when internet was not working from our room or helping us with directions. While we were only mature couple first 2 nights the next two nights other mature couples were there on recommendation of friend. Breakfast buffet basic but included healthy cold and hot options. Rooftop view and view from breakfast room overlooks sea. Grocery store across s street. Restaurant menu has good prices. Calamity, soup, burger and beer all tasty and good value. Room had good matress, was basic but very clean.
Lots of stairs . We are 56 & 69 in good shape. But climbing steep stairs wouldn't suite mature couples with knee or hip problems. Our private room & bathroom at back of building was quiet by 11 pm. Front rooms were noisy. Light from hostel across street bright but with eye masks had good night sleep.
The atmosphere there is very nice. I was alone for 7 nights, but have met great people from all around. The staff does a really great job to set the right mood, it has a nice terrace to hang out at the front of the hostel where you can eat, drink and smoke lots of shisha! Small room with 6 beds but big enough for sleeping and some lockers too big enough for backsack etc. -the staff is excellent -breakfast is included (and not bad) -rooftop, usual for sitting more quiet
no a/c in rooms very basic hostel
First, I would like to mention of the outstanding hospitality of the management and staffs. No problem they can not really resolve. They are very friendly, helpful, professional. Giving 5* star services. (Thank you very much) The hostel lies next to Haggia Sophia (within 200 m), just turn right, and walk down in the street. Also very close to the Blue Mosque. The hostel has a roof-top terrace for dinning and chilling out. The view is just amazing!
Everything was perfect. No complaint
Its location is superb and staff amazing. Outside a great street lounge area for people gazing having a beer and snacks. Really lovely.
Its rooms are poorly finished, way over priced, not well serviced, no shampoo, limited soap, mattresses uneven, generally sadly kinda forgotten. If it wants to stay in this business it needs to smarten the rooms for this kind of price $90 ish per night.
There was no elevator.
The place is on a great st, its fun and close to sight seeing ! I loved sitting out the front and sipping on a drink watching people go by !
Some staff weren't very helpful and a smile can go along way especially if you're alone !
Friendly staff and very clean.
A bit too lively for me re the crowd in the bar but appropriate for those at that age.
The people are great and it is in a great location.
The location But the Staff were the best Onur - themanger, Hassan the Sssistant and Behruk. all went out of their way to ensure our safety (we were a mother and daughter travelling) , arranged a great ytour of Turkey and helped us have a great time in Istanbul. Will return any time and recommend greatly
Really nice reception guy Proximity of most attractions Friendly atmosphere (made some friends)
It didn't bother me but you have to know that music is going to play loud at night time in the street. In the other hand, it's sometimes entertaining to look through the window.
Rooms were clean and spacious for a hostel (we were in the 8 bed dorm). Breakfast was good, staff were helpful, and the bar was good fun with cocktails and nargile. Excellent value for money, and right in the middle of Sultanahmet.
Minor point- take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. There is a mosque 100 yards away so you will be woken by the call to prayer, and the bar plays music util late.
Price was good value for money, staff friendly and helpful, location was excellent, drinks reasonably priced, clean rooms/facilities, breakfast was basic but filling- excellent little hostel to stay in really! Heartily recommended.
Not an issue for myself, but music was played until quite late and there is a mosque 2 mins walk away so the call to prayer is quite loud of a morning. It didn't bother me at all but affected y travelling companion who is a light sleeper.
Everything is fine, especially the wifi, it is available everywhere in the hostel.
Located in the middle of the extremely turistic zone of Sultanahmed, this hostel serves a plaine type breakfast (everything in litlle plastic box), have a staff who speaks parcially english (some of them doesn't speak a word, including the incredibly rude lady who serve the breakfast) and have small rooms. Have a "panoramic view terrace", where you can watch the upper extreme of Blue Mosque and Ayasofia.
The location was perfect, the staff very helpful and dining room had a lovely view. The staff assisted me and made sure I disn't end up going to the wrong airport...
I was really impressed the way hospitable and friendly the staff was. They helped us all the time, gave us the needed advice and were always polite. If we had to go to other city, - they showed us the way, if we had a problem, then they solved it easily. In Orient Hostel we felt like in big family, knowing some nice people from all over the world. The place where the hostel is oriented was awesome due to all the sightseeing places were extra close to it. Also it is safe and you can walk all over the place at any time. Thank you everyone for making our trip nice, safe, comfortable and unforgettable! ;)
