There isn't a lot of the old town and castle left, but what is there is worth a visit if you are going for the winter sports or for a walk in the mountains. Or even if you are there for work. The local kebabs are excellent and there are plenty of good restaurants in the town. Taxis are plentiful, I didn't see much in terms of public transport.

Interesting town, with major sights all located within short walking distance of each other. A lot of cafés serving tea and snacks, but not many restaurants offering a good selection of dishes and especially difficult to find meat-free dishes. We did have one meal in a fascinating restaurant - Erzurum Evleri - located in a labyrinth of old houses and crammed with all sorts of antiques and paraphernalia associated with life in the old town. A bit like eating in a museum, but the food was good and it was an enjoyable and interesting experience.

this city is close to Palandoken ski resort which is the biggest in Turkey, it offers a lot of blue and red slopes that never makes you bored. the skipass is quite cheap, 70 TL for full day and there is no half day entrance. you can go visit Konakli ski resort close by if the weather is good.

Erzurum has a lovely atmosphere along the main strip and side streets. We enjoyed wandering around, visiting the museum and madrassa, having our boots shined, and looking at the shops. The setting is beautiful with the mountains around the town, and on sunset we enjoyed the view from the castle. Apart from its railway connections, Erzurum has some important Islamic pre-Ottoman buildings, distinguished by their rich ornamental carvings in stone, that deserve visiting: the Ulu Mosque, two madrasas (Çifte Minareli and Yakutiye), plus three tombs (Üç Kümbetler).

We thank the hotel staff for a comfortable stay and the guy at the reception was extremely friendly, and he gave us a great room, it was just the soundproofing isn't that great in this hotel. The guy also gave us maps and told us what to visit and thanks to him, we got to visit the beautiful Palandoken (a skier's paradise) which was perfect. The breakfast too was scrumptious. We would definitely love to visit this place again.
