We discovered Kapikiri on line and one could not ask for a community in a more wonderful natural and historic setting. Selenes helped put the village on the map and the owners are deeply knowledgeable about all the attractions. The highlight of a wonderful 2nd trip to Turkey.
We made the mistake of only booking one night which was insufficient time to explore the region.
As a couple we had stayed at Selenes 2 years ago and loved it. Our return visit with friends was an absolute joy. The staff are so friendly, the accommodation lovely but best of all is the absolute tranquillity of the setting. Unforgettable and can't wait to return, for longer!
Very friendly welcome, beautiful views from spotless, comfortable and airy rooms. Plenty of cushions to recline on and read or socialise. If we'd stayed longer the hosts would have organised anything from trekking to boat trips so I plan to return.
I had imagined arriving and plunging into the pool to recover from the journey but the water was rather green! End of a long season I expect as the rooms and dining room were spotless. There were walks around the lake to do instead.
Fantastic Setting Very helpful and knowledgeable staff Fantastic Breakfast Meals beautiful So relaxing A hidden gem
Everything was fantastic
The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. The views over the lake were amazing. The restaurant was beautiful with a lovely veranda, and the food excellent. Breakfasts were delicious too.
Had two nights but would have liked more it's so lovely. Wonderful owners who cook delicious food and great breakfasts changing slightly each day. Most produce is from the garden or the village. Swimming pool in pretty garden great for cooling off after a walk. Very comfortable room with good balcony with beautiful view of lake, good sized bathroom with excellent shower. Owner speaks good English. Guided hikes and boat trips are possible. The village is a slice or rural turkey Nd fabulous for a few days switching off.
Absolutely nothing bad to say about it.
Delicious breakfast and wonderful view from the room. Very welcoming host.
Lake Bafa is off the tourist track, and well worth a visit for experience of rural life in Turkey, (the farm smells are earthy!) and spectacular mountain scenery. Selenes is below the village, next to the lake with wonderful views over the lake and to the craggy mountain range. Our hosts spoke very good english, were very helpful, friendly and obliging. Very late on our last day we asked if we could do some laundry and they went out of their way to help us. Had excellent fish for dinner and the breakfasts were fabulous - generous. Kapakiri the village has many interesting historical ruins to explore too.
The mosquitos. We were there during a particularly hot and humid time. However, our hosts had insect repellent on hand and we slept under a mosquito net.
Selenes Pension in Kapikiri was a wonderful surprise far away from the commercialized mass tourism industry along the coast between Bodrum and Izmir! The pension is a family run business and the owners strive to give their guests excellent service. The rooms are very clean, the bedding nice and soft and the aircondition is pretty quite so one can operate it all night if need be. The breakfast is outstanding with lot's of different choices and the food served in the restaurant is always very fresh and tasty. The cook is excellent! During our stay the owner took us on a complementary boat ride around Bafa Lake, on a guided hike to see prehistoric cave drawings and one evening he took us along to a wedding party in the next village. The pension also provided us with a self guided tour plan of the ruins of Herakleia which are interspersed the present day village of Kapikiri. Overall, our 4 day stay at Selenes was a total success as we got to experience true Turkish village life. It is amazing how just a few km from the hustle bustle of the coast you can find such a little gem. For everyone who wants to get off the beaten track I can very highly recommend a few days stay in Kapikari and at Selenes Pension.
In other reviews, some travelers complained about the village women who try to sell their wares in a somewhat agressive manner. While none of them came close to Selenes pension we encountered them in the village. However, I found that once we nicely told them we did not want a guide or buy anything they mostly left us alone. Also, considering that we were walking all over "their" village, I think that buying a little trincket from them, is just good behaviour and one can always use the purchase as a small gift or souvenir once back home.
lovely setting in rural village, good pool, great food

Location, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.
This was one of our favorite hotel stays during our three weeks in Turkey. A slice of authentic rural Turkey! Food was delicious and the setting on the shore of Lake Bafa was wonderful. Lots to see and do nearby: ancient ruins, hiking, nature watching, etc. The brothers were great hosts and more than willing to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. Very peaceful and relaxing.
I guess especially later in the summer Lake Bafa can send off an odor because of algae plumes (caused by recent draught and water demands of farmers). But pluses far outweigh this negative aspect.
The warmth, helpfulness, and conviviality of the staff and fellow guests. The quality of the cuisine.Birdwatching, walking, and boating on the lake. The wonderful scenery at the foot of Mount Latmos in Heraklaia with all its ruins scattered around the landscape, and ease of access to sites like Labranda,Euromos,Iassos,Dimya,Miletos and Priene. It is a very special place.
We loved everthing
it was a beautiful peaceful location loved it so peaceful and serene pool was very refreshing food was lovely
would of prefered the lake to be cleaner so we could swim to the island
Superb location in the midst of ancient ruins and fantastic walking. Wish we had had longer there as there was so much to see and do. Our balcony! A washing line with pegs! The only hotel where this was provided. Our host took a group of Canadians and us for a walk in the rocky hills around. Sadly we didn't have time to get to the prehistoric rock paintings with which the area abounds. We plan to return. Our host was also full of information as to what we would like and got us absolutely right.
The inevitable shower that leaked badly. Rooms really need up-grading but that didn't spoil our stay one bit.
Wonderful family run hotel Very friendly staff FFantastic location and view
+ selenes crew, very awesome people, boulder pads, food and many many more
Very helpful and friendly owners. delicious dinner / generous portions. Hiking trails in front of the house, no need for a long search by car first.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent. Food was excellent. A great place to stay and the scenery was outstanding with excellent hiking, even in January!
Fabulous! I wish I had one week instead of one night there. Fantastic location on the hillside near the lake, owerlooking the island, tha castle and the village. All kinds of farm animals nearby to wake you up in the morning. Perfect rustic design of inerior, comfortable bed, spotless bathroom, rich breakfast. All kinds of outdoor activites right outside your rook - hinking, ruins, boat... Even old ladies selling their craftwork in the village so charming.
Though the price was quite high compared to all other holiday destinations in the region, that were equally fabulous in their own localations. But nevertheless this is one of our most favourite places to wish for return.
Excellent food and great location
Maybe a little expensive for the facilities. The room (log cabin) was fine but unfortunately for the owner we arrived in the middle of very bad weather. Heavy rain storms on the night before and on the first night caused leaking through the roof. It was manageable and I did not cause a fuss. However the owner made no apology for this and I rather felt that I had done an unmentionable in the punchbowl by reporting it. Maybe he thought I was going to ask for a price reduction. This did not occur to me - it was a minor hiccough. He should lighten up.
Excellent food and friendly atmosphere
