We had a marvelous stay at Taskonak and our host, Angela, was delightful. She took one look at our gigantic suitcases and upgraded us to a suite at no extra cost (we should really stop shopping so much!). The room was well laid out with a sitting area and tele, you could borrow films on USB sticks to watch in your room, they offered complimentary water in the rooms every day, the room was warm, there was hot water in the bathroom for showers at all times, and the breakfast was incredible. Served between 8am-11am, the breakfast comprises of real push-down coffee, pancakes, home baked cake, yoghurt and cereal, honey and a plethora of jams and pickles, made by Angela’s mother-in-law, eggs and a host of other items we didn’t get around to trying out during our short stay. Do look out for the Michael Fish weather board in the dining room!
The location is great, slightly higher up in Goreme (but still central) so a little quieter. There is a roof terrace where you can eat breakfast and even watch the hot-air balloons take off at 6am. It was easy to set off on walks from here.
Angela is very approachable and was always on hand to advise on walking routes and tours. Everything is easy to organise through the hotel be it a tour of the valleys or airport transfer. We also received a discount for paying our bill in cash.
All in all, it was a very comfortable and relaxing stay and we were truly disappointed that we didn’t have longer in Goreme.
I would advise organizing airport transfer before arriving at Kayseri airport because there is no easy way to get to Goreme, which we learnt the hard way.
