The bartenders and waitstaff were lovely, the grounds were small and well kept, the room was spacious.
The room safe is not large enough to accommodate a iPad or laptop despite the staff warning that the rooms is close to the beach and you have to hang your key in a communal space if you want it cleaned, dinner is required to be ordered in the morning, which is very inflexible, it's hot and there's no aircon and you can't leave the doors open because it's unsafe, they bought us an industrial fan which sounded like a plan landing.
good food, friendly staff. nice accomodations
Amazing hotel in African style , with very nice garden, amazing rooms . The best point is that the owners are very nice italian couple who are really looking after guests and care about providing nice service. Nice alcohol drinks . Very helpful personnel . We like rely a lot
The staff was very friendly. The local children are playing near the hotel on the beach. the hotel is away from tourist attractions, so when we went to a walk on the beach, there where not too many beach boys.
The food is expensive although is very tasty
Good location Good service Good value
Location , location, location Beach view rooms great (non beach view rooms (2) a bit dark. Surrounded by nice little village, do venture out.
Pricey juices and excursions Muslims: pork dishes on the menu meaning non-halal kitchen. Snorkling great for boat trip not for underwater views (a lot of coral has been destroyed, few fishes)
Loved the local touch in the location. Hotel Staff were superb, especially Hassan and Francis. Food was great.
Didn't like that there was no drinking water kept in the room and that you had to buy it everytime you wanted one. Felt the hospitality was purely business and not naturally welcoming. Hotel arranged a local buffet which cost 25$ however still no water was included and we had to buy our own on top of the buffet price.
Feels like a home away from home. The beaches of Zanzibar are gorgeous and it was lovely to be away from tourists while still having many restaurants to eat at. The decor is gorgeous and the staff are phenomenal. Loved it here!! Will definitely stay again.
Opted for the balcony sea view room of which there are two in the hotel and worth every penny for stunning views over the beautiful beach. Sitting on the balcony allows you to view amazing sunset and sunrise views without hassel from the beach whilst being blown gently by the consistent breeze which keeps you cool. Perfect! Warm reception and staff couldn't do enough for us. Room decor is unique and very charming. Shower and facilities fantastic given rural location on island. Plenty of restaurants close by to choose from. Suggest booking a snorkeling trip on a local fishing boat as opposed to the larger tourist boats. Great experience.
Excursion and transfer costs were slightly overpriced. Worth looking around in Jambiani to get a competitive price. Wifi had tendency to cut out in the room however in a place like this it was nice to get away from being online. Check out lacked the personal feel we got on reception however this is a very minor point.
We had a fantastic stay in Mamamapambo. Staff was so kind and friendly. The village of Jambiani is amazing, it's pure Zanzíbar, kids playing football, women fishing at the beach, fishermen in wood boats going to the reef to fish, we joined them and was increadible. The hotel is cozy and very nice decorated. The food is really good also. Thank you Paolo and Cristina! We had a wonderfull honeymoon.
It was a good atmosphere and really nice rooms.
The food, drinks and transport was overprized.
Very cozy small hotel with very friendly staff! Nice quiet beach which felt very authentic.
It is probably made for couples and it was not very easy if you wanted to go out in the evening for food or drinks.
The location is fantastic if you get a room fronting the ocean. The staff is friendly, helpful & eager to make your stay as great as possible.
The rooms fronting the road on the backside are dark and boring.
I you are looking for a small quiet place then its the right location. Great beach, good food and friendly staff. If you want some action then Paje beach is just a 10 min walk or by taxi the whole island is reachable without problems. While you are there try some tours as well like Stone Town, Dolphin tour and snorkeling!
we have been in Mama mapambo 4 nights, end of the year/start of new year and it has been a great experience. It was our first vacation in Zanzibar and we likely selected Jambiani and Mamamapambo to start our trip thanks to Tripadvisor suggestions. It is a small hotel of 6 rooms front of the sea and very well integrated in the village of Jambiani. Seaside is beautiful with long tides which allow you to freely walk for kms and discover starfishes, white sandbanks and corals on your walk. This was already above expectations (and note we start from an high benchmark being Italians with many vacation spent between Sardinia, Sicily, Salento etc). But the most pleasant surprise was to discover how it is life in an African village. Jambiani is still not a very touristic location so this allows you to have a good balance between good infrastructure and the authentic African village life. People in Jambiani is wonderful, you can walk safely in the village even overnight, talk with people see how the local live (and we learnt all the economy is based on women work), enjoy local food and make a real African immersion and life experience. The hotel is very good quality, room is spacious, well equipped, clean and nicely decorated with African style and included a great quality breakfast. Finally the hotel owner and staff it is always present and available to help. Hotel is located seafront, it has a private small beach where you can relax and from there go for long walks with low tide or a bath when the tide go higher. If you choose room see front (which I would recommend) you also have a nice terrace/balcony private outdoor which offers amazing views (while the 2 standard rooms on the back are a bit dark). And as said, it is very well integrated in the village as from the back door of the hotel you are literally in face of the local houses in the middle of the village. Overall great experience and we do recommend it
what else? just few remarks, 1) the hotel extras (dinner, renting bike etc) are a bit overpriced vs what you can find outside in the village or other hotels we visited 2) you need to get used to the sea waves during high tide you may hear overnight 3) you don't have fridge in the room (I guess the capacity of the hotel electric power system don't not allow) and sometime even in the bar drinking water bottle is not exactly cold, but please realize you are in Africa and the hotel staff is very available in helping you deal with this.
Amazing staff. Absolutely incredible food. Welcoming hosts. Well organised tours. We loved it.
