We really enjoyed our stay at Maru Maru Hotel. It is in a very good location. The hotel courtyards and rooftop bar and restaurant have real character. Very comfortable rooms and very friendly staff. Highly recommend staying here.
missed using our cocktail voucher....our own fault
Clean and comfortable interior Great rooftop bar and breakfast Staff extremely welcoming
Unstable wifi Unsafe and noisy neighbourhood Bad smell
The staff were great,no issues with check in, we arrived just before 10am and our roon was ready and we were upgraded to king room. location was superb, the roof top was the highlight of the hotel. Had free welcome cocktail. Clean and value for money and above all the only hotel in stone town with a lift. Would certainly recommended and the only place I shall stay in stone town.
Quick responses to my many questions, always ready to help me make arrangements, tours were customized but kind of basic..however I think it's great that you can just work through the hotel for all sorts of tours and experiences. The location is great--you can't get lost next to the old fort and great restaurants, sights and shops are just minutes away. Breakfast is great and its very luxurious to dine overlooking the views of the water and the town with the breeze and sun. :)
Just know that..if you want to snorkel Chumbe Island, call a few days ahead. If you are getting picked up the ferry, you'll have to walk out to the street to meet your driver. They'll be there, not inside the port with other taxis.
African decor, big double bed, balcony, free WiFi and a good breakfast. For taxi service, I highly recommend Salum.
Reciptionest . Kumbo. He made my trip better.. helpfull trustable.
They advertised a king bedroom with a shower and a bath but we got a small room without a bath. We had to take this up with the hotel cause it was false advertisement and only then they gave us a discount cause our room was an equivalent of a queen room.
Location Charming decor Cleanliness Friendly and helpful staff Rooftop terrace
Wifi was not that strong or reliable in our room. Given the location, it was noisy
The staff and food, even environment was quite good
Too close to shops
Sunset views Location Building Beds
The roof top restuarant
Very clean, comfortable, good taste in decoration and great location in Stone Town.
The staff wasn't too helpful at times but, by far, teh most disappointing feature was the restaurant. It's a rooftop venue with a great venue but that's basically it. The food is hideous. The food comes totally different from what is on the menu. We ordered a roti chicken with all these fancy apple coulis sauce and what have you and what we got was a very small portion of a dry piece of roasted chicken with cold and old fries. The price for that? Almost $10. The Indian menu was equally disappointing: looked and tasted nothing like Indian cuisine. We insisted in our mistake and ordered once a pizza, oh my! It came with a mushy soft colorless and barely baked base with isolated mini pieces of dried chicken. It's the pizza of the chef, mind you. I was asked if I liked it and said no to which I got no response, no "why" or anything. Careless.
the location is perfect, the staffs are friendly. the decoration is nice and the room is clean. Best value for price boutique hotel in Zanzibar. in addition, the breakfast quality is so good, and I am so impressed by free breakfast in such quality.
Great staff Good food (a la carte) and breakfast. The room and the hotel itself is classy and feels fresh.
No pool. No view from the room.
Not really charming, old hotel feel to it. All was ok, rooms were clean, breakfast was fine, rooftop bar is ok. Not a fabulous stay, just ok... The local Ibis I would say.
Excellent breakfast included in the price which was reasonable.
Rooms and bathrooms were very nice and modern (this hotel is recently renovated/newly built). Best breakfast I had during my 2 weeks long visit in Tanzania (and I am a bit picky), served in the rooftop restaurant with great view over stonetown!
-Wifi was really bad, sometimes it didn't work at all but the reception was helpful and let us use their wifi which worked fine (but it only worked in the reception area) -Dinner was unfortunately not as good as breakfast
The roof top restaurant
Staff at the reception was unfriendly and had attitudes - hence we left after 1 day.
Staff were wonderful! Helpful and courteous.
Didn't have a pool.
Central location in the old town Size of the room and cleanliness but...
Very noisy hotel both inside (no sound proof walls) and outside. Breakfast was poor compared to other hotels in the island e.g. no fresh fruits or fresh juices. Overall, hotel with no 'soul' or character. Was expecting more comfort for this type of hotel that's been recently refurbished
Rooms are nice and clean. Food in the restaurant was very good (NOT breakfast!!).
Service in the bar area is very slow, waiters are incompetent. Breakfast is terrible.
Staff were welcoming frmt he start. Welcome drink and towel. After a month of camping this was heaven. Everyone was friendly a and helpful. Breakfast was good and rooms very comfortable. Would stay again.
It's an extremely neat and tidy hotel if you are just looking to sleep, get up and go. There ain't a lot of amenities or facilities , just practical.
Paying for a wifi that hasn't got an excellent signal. It could have been a little more organised . They could not find my booking promptly but when I was checking out they remember to charge me for the first night that I failed to arrive- how convenient .
