The roof top restuarant
Very clean, comfortable, good taste in decoration and great location in Stone Town.
The staff wasn't too helpful at times but, by far, teh most disappointing feature was the restaurant. It's a rooftop venue with a great venue but that's basically it. The food is hideous. The food comes totally different from what is on the menu. We ordered a roti chicken with all these fancy apple coulis sauce and what have you and what we got was a very small portion of a dry piece of roasted chicken with cold and old fries. The price for that? Almost $10. The Indian menu was equally disappointing: looked and tasted nothing like Indian cuisine. We insisted in our mistake and ordered once a pizza, oh my! It came with a mushy soft colorless and barely baked base with isolated mini pieces of dried chicken. It's the pizza of the chef, mind you. I was asked if I liked it and said no to which I got no response, no "why" or anything. Careless.
the location is perfect, the staffs are friendly. the decoration is nice and the room is clean. Best value for price boutique hotel in Zanzibar. in addition, the breakfast quality is so good, and I am so impressed by free breakfast in such quality.
Great staff Good food (a la carte) and breakfast. The room and the hotel itself is classy and feels fresh.
No pool. No view from the room.
Not really charming, old hotel feel to it. All was ok, rooms were clean, breakfast was fine, rooftop bar is ok. Not a fabulous stay, just ok... The local Ibis I would say.
Excellent breakfast included in the price which was reasonable.
Rooms and bathrooms were very nice and modern (this hotel is recently renovated/newly built). Best breakfast I had during my 2 weeks long visit in Tanzania (and I am a bit picky), served in the rooftop restaurant with great view over stonetown!
-Wifi was really bad, sometimes it didn't work at all but the reception was helpful and let us use their wifi which worked fine (but it only worked in the reception area) -Dinner was unfortunately not as good as breakfast
The roof top restaurant
Staff at the reception was unfriendly and had attitudes - hence we left after 1 day.
Staff were wonderful! Helpful and courteous.
Didn't have a pool.
Central location in the old town Size of the room and cleanliness but...
Very noisy hotel both inside (no sound proof walls) and outside. Breakfast was poor compared to other hotels in the island e.g. no fresh fruits or fresh juices. Overall, hotel with no 'soul' or character. Was expecting more comfort for this type of hotel that's been recently refurbished
Rooms are nice and clean. Food in the restaurant was very good (NOT breakfast!!).
Service in the bar area is very slow, waiters are incompetent. Breakfast is terrible.
Staff were welcoming frmt he start. Welcome drink and towel. After a month of camping this was heaven. Everyone was friendly a and helpful. Breakfast was good and rooms very comfortable. Would stay again.
It's an extremely neat and tidy hotel if you are just looking to sleep, get up and go. There ain't a lot of amenities or facilities , just practical.
Paying for a wifi that hasn't got an excellent signal. It could have been a little more organised . They could not find my booking promptly but when I was checking out they remember to charge me for the first night that I failed to arrive- how convenient .
Location in Stone Town was good, close to the shops, beach, ferry and great restaurants. Was a tad noisy but not really enough to be disturbing. Rooftop bar/restaurant had one of the best views of the sunset.
Hotel required unique printed coupons for each device, only good for 24 hours. An extreme inconvenience as each phone, tablet and computer required a separate login which needed to be physically renewed at the front desk every single day. Internet connectivity was awful as it would disappear multiple times per day (not your device being disconnected but upstream routes were simply dropped). Not a one time occurrence either, this went on for the entire week. The 50% surcharge for a 2nd person in the room was annoying. I know it is common in many countries but that is incredibly high in my opinion when we're sharing the already existing bed, etc.
The location in Stone Town is very good, the housekeeping staff did their best and Fiona at the front desk was very helpful when she was on duty.
The hotel caters to large groups of travelers with organizations that use the hotel frequently. As a result, my friend and I, as sole travelers, often felt neglected. This was especially true in the restaurant where the groups were served menu items that we were told were unavailable and the wait staff essentially ignored us. By contrast we ate at Emerson Spice House and were treated very well. In speaking with the guests there I would recommend this hotel over the Maru Maru. The Maru Maru is also noisy since it is on a busy street and also allows staff to accept deliveries, move furniture etc in the early morning (6 am) and late at night (after 11 pm). J in San Francisco
The service... Especially our waiter Maneno which in swahili means words.. he was very nice and a person who you can easily talk to. The manager was on par, checking is everything was ok. Plus he spoke good english.. Nice views...! I love the seafood platter... delicious! Safari beer reminded me of Tusker. I would definately come back if i had the chance to! :-) To be honest I love the beds! Thats why i chose this hotel and the views! Decor was on par.
Few of the waiters english wasnt on par and didnt understand when i asked for a menu. He kept askin "and you?" Which was kind of embarassing... :-( The room i was given was on the third floor under the rooftop restaurant and i specifically SAID i do not want a room near the restaurant and I was given just that. i was too tired to go down stairs and the kids were hungry. Please find a way not to make so much noise when cleaning up. But it was sleepable just slightly annoying. I showered with cold water me and the kids because had no idea where the heater was. Only to find it was behind the cupboard/closet when i was leaving. :-( But all in all.. it was alright!
Loved there rooftop restaurant with a 360 view of Zanzibar.
Light came through window above door which affected my sleep
We arrived late at night. The staff was very friendly and courteous, they went out of there way to make sure all 6 of us (3 different rooms) were comfortable. They were quick to set up our activities.
Great views from the roof, loved the room- very clean and beautifully decorated but simple. Great location, and the staff were very professional. Would stay again. :)
Wifi was spotty but overall no complaints
The hotel was very accommodating to my need - arrived one day earlier but is able to change the booking. Hotel is very clean and not much mosquitos around in our room.
There is a rubbish collection area / depot in the close vicinity of the hotel.
The restaurant and bar were on the roof top terrace and it was fantastic with views across the city. Location was right in the heart of the old town. Staff were helpful and friendly.
