눉The spa needs more professionalization and better supply. The wife and kids went and got mani/pedis, but they ran out of certain nail polish colors and top coat. It was done outside with no fans and was hot and humid with a wait despite making an appointment they had to wait for others to finish.
Rooms were kept clean even after incidentally dragging in sand from the beach. However, rooms were small, and the mosquitoes prowling outside the doors prevented us from enjoying the open patio. We had to dry our clothes out on the patio and took up the seating too.
It was great being right on the beach, and the ruins were interesting with all the different fauna they had from around the world. However, the location is away from Stone Town (not a long car ride however) and down a poorly paved road so to go anywhere required a taxi service (good to have a reliable taxi driver/guide like Abdul)..
눇The hotel was right on the beach, and it had a decent pool for the kids when they got tired of the salt water. There are beach chairs with umbrellas for everyone's use, which meant days that were on or close to the weekend there was a wait for seating. Others not staying at the hotel would come and occupy the space too, which got a little ridiculous only once or twice really during weekend days.
The view was generally nice, and we ended up eating dinner just about every night at the hotel restaurant. The food was ok, and varied some nights in quality, but served it's purpose. The menu was diverse enough for a few nights, any longer and we would've been tired of it. The breakfast was decent and served it's purpose well.
Staff was generally nice, and accommodated most requests. The excursions desk was a little off, and I don't think I ever saw them myself. However, it ended up being a good thing as a staff member put us in contact with someone they knew and he turned out to be an excellent guide (Abdul).
