Different styles from different times (african, muslim, maybe also european). Interesting experience is the market place and the night market for dinner under the stars. Also the hammam is worth to visit (with good gide)!

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.

Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same.
Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same. Plenty of souvenirs to buy. Check Darajani market for good bargains. Don't forget the spice market.
Avoid shopping in Darajani street. Not for tourists.
Relaxed lunches at the high terraces of the Swahili house and Emerson house.
Supper at Lukmaan (reasonable and cheap), Masa Japanese Restaurant (good and reasonably priced), and Krishna Food House (good and reasonably priced).

I’m from Greece so the beaches in Greece are similar and even better than the ones in Zanzibar so I was not overly impressed by them like most tourists.
What I didn’t like was all the people coming up to you all the time trying to sell you stuff. You tell them to go away and they insist. It’s rude and annoying.
Also Stone Town is dirty, there’s rubbish everywhere. We went outside for a walk and there were a lot of people around and they smelled bad. It’s like they don’t shower.
Too expensive for what it is, nothing is open after 10pm and hospitality (waiters and bartenders) are terrible as if they have no experience. You wait forever, and they don’t attend to you often enough.
I have booked this place only to have a chance to sleep for 5-6 hours. I came to Zanzibar at night around 4am so until I could go and check in to other hotel near the beach I decided to find something cheap and close to airport to get some sleep so I only stayed at this hotel for 5 hours so I cant say much. But the receptionist were nice and room is ok. If its just for 1 night to stay near airport because you need its fine, otherwise for longer stay in too far from city center and there is nothing around that much near hotel.
It‘s always good to have an AC and towels at the pool. The beach and city center (night market) is really near to the hotel. The pickup from the airport was on time and well organized. The staff is friendly and we could text them months before arriving with any questions. The breakfast was good: juices, fruits, fresh omelettes and crepes, cereals and even hot food like potatoes. We were at the apartements in another house near to the main hotel. If you need the beach and the pool nextdoor, remember to book the main hotel.
Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.
Nice hotel right on the beach and next to the port.
Great location with everything in easy walking distance from the hotel.
Our room was spacious and clean with a huge ornate bathroom.
Beds were big and comfortable. TV, Fridge and a Kettle in the room with some tea and coffee provided.
Breakfast was ok.
The pool was nice with plenty of shaded areas and a great way to cool off after walking around the back streets of Stone Town.
The Hotel is well located in the heart of Stone Town. Our room was nice and spacious, so was the bathroom. Everything clean. There is a nice little pool, perfect for a quick refresh after exploring the city. The roof terrace is very nice, food was really good, although we didn‘t have breakfast as our flight was too early in the morning. Staff was nice and friendly, can totally recomend this place for a stay in Stone town.
Great location, close to the main part of Stone Town but in a quiet spot. Staff were lovely and accommodating and connected me to a great local tour guide company. Loved spending time on the vine covered terrace on the beach just reading my book. Two nice pools. I stayed in a newly renovated city view room on the street side of the hotel which was huge and very comfortable. Loved my few days staying here.
The hotel is right at the center. It was very easy to get around however the check in process took some time but the staff were very helpful. The lunch chicken biryani meal at the restaurant was super 👌. It was my first time in stone town so I was alittle scared of security but Faisah at the reception was very helpful in getting me guides to shop for spices.
the 2 ladies at the front were so nice and let us keep are baggage there until the ferry left at 4pm. also the breakfast was one of the best breakfast in Zanzibar
the cleaning ladies are great and they gave us towels after we came back from the beach. I should have stayed here the whole time while in stone town
This hotel has a great location. It is close to the beach and all the major sights in stone town. Rooms are comfortable and clean and I looked forward to breakfast everyday. Very nice spanish omelets.
The hotel was vintage and very beautiful. I liked that it was close by everything in Stone Town. The breakfast was delicious and the owner of the property and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.
Loved this Swahili stylish hotel with lots of historic details. Close to beach and sights in Stone Town. Walking distance to everything. Charming and comfy rooms. Very helpful staff in the reseption.
Great food, Kindly staff And everythink was clean . In the centre. Very good prices. If you want to stay a few days in Zanzibar city here is no better hotel than this. Really Recomend.
Very kind staff, really good value for money!
Located in the middle of stone town, right on the beach, near night market and fredy mercury's museum. 15 minutes drive from the airport.

i would choose this hotel in my next stay in stone town
Location is great, just right at the Stone Town city centre. They have a nice swimming pool with a bar. Food is really nice and a tours provided are great.
Really nice hotel.
Very good location near to stone Town. Cheapest in stone Town with Breakfast.🙂. Others hotels will ask for the taxes upon arrival which is double than we booked.
Great breakfast, very nice staff, location is okay not much to see around, but the hotel has a very nice swimming pool and amazing view on the beach/Islands...
