Good location on Nungwi beach, with excellent sunset view; one of the best restaurants in the area; quality of rooms; friendly staff; romantic infinity pool, free Wi-Fi, large beach area in front of the hotel
Sometimes, during low tides, the beach is not very clean, but at 20 minutes walking distance you will find excellent beaches, very clean and not so populated with local people trying to sell you something
location, beach, pool and pool bar, rooms
Clean rooms, hearty breakfast, attentive stuff.
Small, ugly architecture, the restaurant building is not as seen on the pictures, instead of the traditional roof there is a tarace giving the feeling of a concrete block of flat in the beach instead of a tropical paradise. Also everything is unbelievable and dishonestly expensive. 2$ for 1L of water, 4$ for beer, 5$ for a cocktail in happy hour... In the local super market you could buy in 1/4 of the price but the refrigerators were out of order. All and all, there are better, more beautiful and more honest options on the beach, by far better values.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Z hotel. We were lucky enough to spend 6 wonderful days and nights there, after a grueling, but awesome, safari. What a treat this place is! Arriving too late for dinner, we were given a complimentary panini sandwich, without even asking for it. From that point on, we knew we had made the right decision. The service continued to be top-notch during our entire stay. The staff was constantly attentive, the entire grounds impeccably clean, the buffet breakfast was more plentiful than anywhere else we had stayed and the location could not have been better. Even the managers were personal, charming and always available! If it weren't so damn far from San Francisco, I would make an annual trip there!
Excellent location!!! Great sunsets from the rooftop deck. Early morning breakfast WOW Enjoyable dinner from restaurants overlooking beach. Wonderful pool area for relaxing and private lounging area on the sand. Will highly recommend this hotel
Our room was at bottom of stairscase and woken up by other guests leaving early morning and pulling their bags down stairs.
Bar prices were steep by TZ standards and there was the double whammy of then charging VAT on top of advertised prices
Our rooom (garden view ground floor) had every possible amenities, a nice bathroom with a large shower and a very comfortable bed. Cleaning service was attentive, the rooom was always perfect. Staff ready to help. Excelent the quality of the breakfast, and the position of the restaurant with a nice view on the beach and the sea. Perfect also the position on Nungwi: the stretch of beach in front of the hotel is always swimmable also with low tide, and there are no algas like elsewhere in Nungwi. Very happy of our stay.
The only bad thing of our room was a slight smell of mold, perhaps due to the fact that the room at the ground floor don't get that much direct sun. And, our fridge in the room was not working, was due to replacement. But these were minor things.
The personal attention and assistance we got from the staff, particularly Julie and Celine, was excellent. We were really made to feel at home from the moment we arrived. We were also delighted with an upgrade to a roof-top suite halfway through our stay. The food was superb, and, compared to a lot of other average restaurants on the beach, was very competively priced. The service in all the restaurants and bars was first class, and the location magnificent. All in all, one of the very best hotels we have ever stayed in. We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful hotel to anyone looking for somewhere special to stay in Zanzibar.
The only slight problem was the rather dodgy electrics in the rooms (including difficult to figure out light switches, and getting nasty shocks from the kettle!).
A great hotel for a young or young at heart couple, with excellent services (two restaurants, a cafe, other restaurants nearby, a spa, etc.). A not-so-small hotel that still has that tranquil boutique hotel feel to it. The hotel is beautifully designed, and visually very pleasant. The beach is gorgeous, and the pool very comfortable.
The food in the dinner restaurant is not that excellent. It's ok, but if you walk around you can find better restaurants. The prices in the restaurants were quite high, aside from the cocktail happy hour that was a pleasant surprise.
The place, beach, pool, atmosphere
Wifi - not access everywhere Dobblebed - too hard and not horizontal
High standard of rooms
Service level of staff needs to be higher given the price of a room per night. Sleep was good until about 7.30am when staff outside start shouting at each other.
Lovely staff, great manager and very clean
The pool was excellent. Beach area in front of the hotel seems to be reserved to the hotel occupants only and public access is restricted (beach in front of other hotels in Kandwa are open to public) so it gives you a more private, exclusive feel.
Water supply (bathroom) is salt water. Internet in our room was relatively weak and only works intermittently.
A bit far from stone town but the nungwi beach is worth the trip.
If you are driving yourself, the way leading to the hotel is a bit undeveloped. Z hotel could help by making more signs for first time visitors.
We had an amazing time in Z hotel, location is great, room size is perfect even though our bathroom was a bit small. Staff was very friendly, always helpful and smiling. Swimming pool area was one of the best spots in this hotel, it has great views to the beach and plenty of sunbeds.
Food wasn't great and the service was a bit slow. For what you pay for the room they should have better mattresses.
Every last detail about the Z Hotel is beautiful. The setting is on a wonderful white sand (public) beach. The pool & poolside area, and many of the rooms, overlook the beach and the sea and get a wonderful view of the sunset. The restaurants both are also right on the ocean front and give an opportunity for beautiful and peaceful dining. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully furnished and small touches - such as hibiscus flowers each day - make it a pleasure to be inside. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. The onsite tour and travel company, Mrembo, were fantastic too.
If you are a solo traveller, you are unlikely to meet others here: most people are in groups or couples. However, it is right on Nungwi beach with many hotels and resorts, so you might be able to meet people elsewhere.
Staff. Rooms Pool bar View.
Pray for good wheather.
I was on my own and felt completely safe the entire time. I booked a taxi from the airport through the hotel - this can be done more cheaply, but I was happy to spend the money so I didn't have to worry about anything. My drivers were actually tour guides, so the rides to and from the hotel were really interesting as they told me about what we were looking at and the social and cultural history of Zanzibar. The staff were great about chatting with me if I wanted to and leaving me to myself if I didn'T. The mango/avocado/shrimp salad was amazing. The wifi was fine. The beach is gorgeous right in front of the hotel. I had an ocean view room and it was the perfect size and very comfortable. The view was breathtaking.
It wasn't very social - other people there seemed to be travelling together or have met each other through activities but there wasn't really much opportunity to talk to people unless you're super outgoing and don't mind joining other people's conversations. If you're on your own definitely sign up for some group activities if you want to meet people.
Great staff, relaxing swimming pool, very good breakfast ... everything was fantastic!!
