Location, location, location, very good service, lovely swimming pool, great fish restaurant and so on.
As a noise sensitive person I was annoyed by the aircon noise even when switched off. But the staff did everything to find a room which was more suitable to me. They found it in the old Chinese doctor's house. Great thanks for this.
Staff has generally been very good over the years that I have stayed at Serena.
The whole place needs a facelift. And there is a general decline in standards over quite a short period of time. Maintenance of rooms now seems to be a patchwork effort. There is now a little way to go to revert to its 5-star rating, and the justification of its high pricing.
Staff were very friendly and really helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. They were as good as any central city hotel we have stayed in. Rooms were clean and air conditioning worked well, great views.
Staff is always professional and make us feel at home. Room #37 is the very best. Charles, your front desk mgr took care of our booking and did a superb job!
The a/c doesn't get very cold; the safe didn't work, and you guys had to break it open. Probably need one with the battery on the outside.
The location, the antique furniture and design touches, the cleanliness and attention to detail of housekeeping, the staff , who were all excellent - friendly, professional and very quick to act. The pool area was well managed and very pretty
The rooms aren't very big, and the showerrooms quite small Food wasn't brilliant, breakfast buffet was fine especially if you stuck to fresh fruits and the local breakfast which I really liked
Excellent location historical building interior design nice furniture helpfully personel
Quality of food for the prices you pay
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Third time at least visitor here got upgraded to a suite one of my all time best hotels, location is world class, service old world. The doorman must be best in class ( maybe better than Vic Falls Hotel) . Seafood dinner on the roof is amazing. Nothing too much trouble for the staff which shows with proper training anything is possible, definitely 5 star
Central and Old World Charm.
The hotel need to be renovated.
poor access to the sea for a swim. Steps from the guard location would be good.
Service, location, people, room, cleanliness
Off season price was relatively high. Food could have had more variety
Outstanding, gracious staff. Made you feel welcome, remembered you and your habits. They are attentive but never obtrusive.
I found the restaurant offerings and style to be a bit old fashioned. A move to more contemporary concepts and a move to lighter fare with local ingredients and flavours would be welcome.
Everything Nice staff, good food Safe Best in Stone Town
The patio from my room was spectacular. I liked to sit and watch the water and boats. The whole hotel is in the best location. I was there for 4days and could have stayed longer. Everyone on staff was so helpful and pleasant. Because of rain the terrace restaurant was not open so I will have to return.
The food was not as good for a five star but I did not get to the lobster at the terrace restaurant. I did like the champagne at breakfast.
I needed a one-day stop between business trips to Nairobi and Dar es Salaam and promised myself I would try Zanzibar and Serena there. You get exactly what you pay for - it's expensive but it's fantastic. The room was really nice - a bit old fashioned but nice and cool (even without a/c) and the net over the bed keeps the mozzies at bay. It's right on the edge of Stone Town but really quiet and tranquil.
The perfect hotel. What more can I say.
The location! The building is tired and needs upgrading! The staff were extremely helpful! I don't think it is worth the $300.00 a night it cost us! Regards Neil MacKay
The restaurants were superb, both Baharia and Terrace.Breakfast was included at the room rate and was wonderful. Service was excellent. The hotel is centrally located in Stone Town, and the view of the sea from the room was spectacular.
staff very committed
air conditioning is not working properly
Historical Hotel in the center of Stone Town, from where we can explore eveything.
Restaurant not at the same level as Hotel, when around town lot of local people is showing great talent and just could be hired.
