I am well traveled and have been to all continents save the poles. But it was my first time in an Eastern European country and honestly I did not know what to expect. So I did a foolish thing. I assumed things would not be much different than how I find them in other countries. Boy, was I wrong! There are no ATMs at the airport that accepts my card. This is a first for me as HSBC is a worldwide bank. So right off the bat I am stranded 5 minutes off the airplane with zero local currency. Nice but economically aggressive taxi driver drove me all around the city one bank after another to no avail. My second assumption was to find an English-speaking banker to help me sort out the mini crisis; and I quickly found out most locals are very warm and helpful - but they only speak Ukrainian or Russian. Much fanfare, sign language and almost an hour later, I knew my crisis was escalating. The driver was ready to throw my bags curbside. Then I had the presence of mind to seek help from Oksana at Oselya. She and I had been communicating by email re: the hotel booking and she was always quick and helpful. More importantly, she speaks English! A 2-minute call to Oselya resolved everything with clear directions to the hotel and cash ready(!) for the taxi driver - whom by this time has also lost his patience. He compensated himself voluntarily by raising his price 30%. After a 18-hr journey I was too tired to argue. I was quickly checked in to a very nice, bright room with all amenities just like home. And I decided to sleep it off. The next morning - still penniless - I was greeted with a sumptuous breakfast at their beautiful garden. Valeria was there to show me around the place and helped me arrange hotel taxis - with local-friendly rates - to the city center. And she gave me cash for the taxi ride!! I shall now take a short break from my story and emphasized on a small point. Never, never ever in my travels has a hotel given me cash. It is usually the other way round.
Great to be personally met at the airport by lovely host Oksana who also organised a great evening walking tour of Kiev with an English speaking guide. The hotel is a little way from the centre but easily reached by metro in under 15 minutes. (Oksana explained how the metro worked and provided a map so it was easy to use.) I had the Myth of the Sun room which has its own balcony. The hotel is in a quiet residential neighbourhood where Oksana's husband's family have lived for generations. There is always someone to drive you to and from the metro station (just 5 min away). The room was very comfortable with a large modern bathroom, air con and wifi. The home-cooked breakfast (served in the garden) was delicious and generous. Altogether a very pleasant stay. Would definitely recommend highly.
I enjoyed this place a lot. It's very quiet and comfortable place where I felt myself at home. Staff really takes care of quests. I recommend this hotel.
Shampoo. It was awful. The wi-fi is not too quick but enough for work.
From the shuttle service to and from the airport, to the friendly reception, our arrival at this wonderful boutique hotel was an extremely pleasant event. With no dinner served on the plane, we arrived at the hotel later in the evening tired and hungry; a call to the kitchen enabled a satisfying meal. The 'happy belly' breakfast provided in the morning was hearty and quite tasty. This little gem is a quiet oasis in a large city. We highly recommend this hotel.
Did not change bed-sheet during my 2-nights stay
- very nice staff
- location could be better
Oselya is a very pleasant place to stay. Hotel is sparkling clean, staff are helpful and friendly, and rooms are very well specified, comfortable beds, nice modern bathroom, good desk for working, and fast (and free) WiFi.
Very conveniently located near the railway station and Zhylyany airport. We arrived by train and were met by hotel. Transfer to airport was in time and without any problem. I highly recomend to use hotel transfer. Everything was very modern and of a high quality. Nice garden, free wi-wi even in the garden. The staff very polite and helpful.
Excellent hotel. Superior staff. Always helpful. Can recommend to everyone without reservations.
