I am not sure whether any of the hotel staff have some misconception as to who I am and what I do while staying at the hotel or whether any of them are involved in perpetuating it, but I simply do not understand why staff in all the hotels seem either to be wary about letting me stay or why rooms at hotels that seem quiet when I check in later seem to fill up and it becomes impossible for me to contine to stay even when I have asked for them to informally keep a room free for me to extend. I mind less, almost, that it could be quite dangerous to have to move so often than that it might prove entertaining to anyone.
The location and the general atmosphere of the hotel
Shared bathrooms across the hall, but they were kept very clean and almost always was one free. The WiFi/internet connection did not work well.
cclean nice for price quiet
The location along with the hotel style
The fact that the restroom/shower room are located outside of the room (shared) , plus the wifi did not work well
-Small, dysfunctional shared washrooms--no soap and paper towels provided -Doors close very loudly--beware if room is opposite to washrooms -Small, dysfunctional rooms--nowhere to store luggage and personal items; no desk; only one small chair provided -AC unit in window very loud -Paper thin walls -"Hotel" attracts lower-income travelers, so beware!
Stuff quality average and the hotel looks and smells old
Quiet place, very clean, decent rate for an expensive city such as New York, hotel well located with shops close by, walking distance to Broadway and all the stores, Empire State building, Time square, ... Helpfull staff, good wifi.
No private bathroom but it's fine. Never busy and always kept clean.
The quiet, the authentic feeling of the ambiance, the proximity to Stuyvesant park for relaxation in a comfortable and interesting setting. I also liked the way you allow your guests to choose when they want the maid to either come in or not for their services. Friendly staff.
It was a great location in a great neighborhood. There were great restaurants and subway access very close by. I really liked this hotel. It was clean, quiet and a great price.
Very thing was great.
Nice location. Staff is nice.
The aircon in my first room was very loud at night, fortunately I got another room.
The staff was polite, the location is great, the interior has a unique and interesting design to it.
There was a terrible combined odor of urine and cleaning products in the hallway. The beds/ pillows/ blankets aren't very comfortable.
The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean. The staff was not overly friendly but they were very accommodating to any request.
No maid service during my two night stay. I would've liked fresh towels.
Loved the location. Close to everything to be an excellent NY base.
Shared bathroom, tho we didn't see any other guests so it wasn't really a problem. Fairly small room, although it was perfectly good enough, given we only really needed a bed to sleep on!
Brilliant place to stay in a good location, helpful & friendly staff. I would stay here again.
While the lack of a bathroom made me nervous, it was quite easy and accessible. Great value for the money.
Odd room layout - but not a big deal.
shared bathroom, a little far from metro station
I loved the old-fashioned feel of the hotel with its high-ceilinged bedrooms. The bathrooms in the hall were very clean and easily accessible. Were I ever to go to NYC again, I would stay here.
- great location - striking price for NYC - shabby-chic charm
- this used to be a very charming place to stay at in NYC around ten years ago, not really anymore - staff was not attentive/friendly, did not help with the baggage, either - it also seems that homeless people sometimes use the shared bathrooms. This should be monitored by the receptionist! - bed was not comfortable - water from the roof (?) dropped from the outside onto our AC, wetting the inside of our room when we had our window open at night
The staff are extremely nice. Rooms very clean - be sure to request room WITH a sink - and LUV the dark, 1920s feel of the place with all the gorgeous hardwood, etc. They even UPGRADED me for free upon arrival, when they saw I'd booked a DBL and was 6'9" tall !
There is nothing not to like about this hotel. It's one of the BEST deals in Manhattan.
Stuff was not friendly! Really! And I am not really picky...
That I could walk to my meetings in the morning and then enjoy an easy walk back after dinner and drinks at night.
Given the affordability, not too much. I commute to NYC once a week from Mass. and would love it if I could get a room discount for booking single nights 4 to 8 weeks consecutively in advance.
The shared bathroom are regularly cleaned. Even the rooms in the front were quiet. Location.
The internet connection in the rooms in the front of the building experienced big problems.
It's location not to far to travel for the subway/Tube amenities nearby
No food facilties or being able to get a hot /cold drink
One of the showers on the 6th floor was blocked for a number of days.
Easy access to the subway, quiet and clean room, very comfortable bed
